Flood insurance premiums are about to go up. State Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says premium hikes for primary residences are capped at 18-percent each year and If you have a camp, you can expect an even higher premium boost…

In an effort to help the state’s budget problems, Governor Bobby Jindal is looking at selling the remainder of a multi-billion dollar settlement from tobacco manufacturers. State Treasurer John Kennedy says the Jindal administration has raided all other pots of money and this is the last one left…

Despite Kennedy’s concerns, the Tobacco Settlement Financing Corporation voted to begin the process of selling the tobacco settlement.

New employment numbers show that there were 7500 less people working in January than in December in the state. Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director Curt Eysink says even though there was the typical job drop that you see in January, we’re still employing far more people this year than we were this time last year…:

State Police say a truck driver from Alabama died when he was run over by a trooper who was looking for him in Madison Parish. Sgt. James Anderson says they received a report early Tuesday morning that an 18-wheeler was stuck in the lane of travel on US Highway 65 about 6 miles north of Tallulah…

The top-ranked LSU Tigers scored two runs in the top of the 10th to get past Southern last night, 4-2. Junior right-hander Collin Strall picked up the win for the Tigers, while reliever Rafeal Diaz gets tagged with the loss for Southern. The Jaguars head into a home weekend SWAC series against Texas Southern. LSU travels to Fayetteville for a three game series against Arkansas beginning Thursday.

Former US Open Champion Justin Rose, who is ranked as the 10th best golfer in the world, has committed to play in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which will take place April 23rd to the 26th at TPC Louisiana in Westwego. Fore Kids Foundation president Steve Worthy says they are working to bring more big names to the P-G-A event

Rose’s commitment to play in the Zurich Classic, comes about a week after 17th ranked Billy Horschel’s announcement that he would play in New Orleans next month.

The Pelicans moved back into the final playoff spot in the Western Conference after last night’s 85-84 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Anthony Davis scored 20, Quincy Pondexter added 18, including five three-pointers, and Omer Asik threw in 16 for the Pels. The Pelicans begin a 3-game road trip Thursday in Phoenix.

In the NIT, Louisiana Tech advances after defeating Central Michigan 89-79. Raheem Appleby lead all scorers with 22 and Jacobi Boykins threw in 18 as the Bulldogs won their third consecutive NIT opening round game. Tech advances to the second round where they’ll hit the road to face Texas A&M.

In the CollegeInsider-dot-com Tournament, UL-Lafayette handled Incarnate Word 83-68 to advance to the second round. Bryce Washington lead the Cajuns with 25 points, followed by Hayward Register’s 12. The Cajuns’ next opponent will be announced later this week.

The Jindal administration says it could be used finance the TOP’s scholarship program for the next seven to eight years, but State Treasurer John Kennedy doesn’t like this idea…

K-A-T-C in Lafayette is reporting that an 81-year-old Korean War veteran died in a mobile home fire in Arnaudville this morning. The state Fire Marshal’s office has identified the victim as Robert Kaltenbach and investigators say the fire started near a desk where several electrical cords were plugged into a power cord.

A second-day of Common Core testing wrapped up earlier today. Based on figures after day one, Calcasieu, Jackson and Central school systems had the highest percentages of opt-out students. Central School Superintendent Michael Faulk says he’s concerned that his school system will be judged with no consideration to the percentage of opt-outs…:

State Police arrest four people who were allegedly involved in a prescription drug scheme at Jackson Parish Hospital that also involved other crimes. Sgt. James Anderson says former employees 51-year-old Vickie Booker and 48-year-old Elizabeth Cheatwood, both of Jonesboro, have been booked in connection to payroll fraud…:

The LSU men’s basketball team makes its way to Pittsburgh today for it’s NCAA Tournament match-up with North Carolina State on Thursday. The only player on LSU’s squad to experience an NCAA Tournament game is Keith Hornsby. The shooting guard was a freshman on UNC-Asheville’s team that made the NCAA Tournament in 2012. LSU sophomore Jordan Mickey is not worried about the lack of March Madness experience on his team…

There is some basketball tonight….Louisiana Tech hosts Central Michigan in the N-I-T. The Ragin Cajuns, who were in the NCAA Tournament last year, face Incarnate Word tonight in the College-Insider-dot-com tournament.

The Saints have reportedly restructured the contract of new linebacker Dannell Ellerbe. Based on media reports, Ellerbe’s base salary was slashed to one-point-one million dollars this year, but with bonuses he’ll make at least four-point-nine million dollars in 2015.

In other NFL news…former Saints running back Travaris Cadet has signed with the New England Patriots. Cadet caught 38 passes for the Black and Gold last year.

There are several rivalry games on tonight’s college baseball schedule…LSU visits crosstown rival Southern in a game that can be seen on C-S-T. U-L-M is at Grambling and Tulane hosts Southeastern Louisiana.

In the NBA…the Pelicans are at home tonight to take on the Milwaukee Bucks. New Orleans is a half-game back of Oklahoma City for eight place in the Western Conference. The Bucks have lost nine of their last 12. Tip-off is at 7 PM.

And the LSU softball team is ranked number one for the first time in program history. They only have two losses on the year.

A unrestrained driver from Napoleonville man has died in a high-speed single vehicle crash, resulting from his attempt to flee from Assumption Sheriff’s Deputies that were trying to pull him over for speeding. Twenty-one year-old Darrell Thomas lost control on Highway 308 right before the LaFourche Parish line, crashing into a utility pole. He died later at a local hospital.

The Humane Society of Louisiana is finding out new information about a viral photo from a gas station in Slidell that appears to be a man leaving his dog and driving off. The picture is from a concerned citizen’s cell phone and shows a dog chasing a truck. Humane Society Director Jeff Dorson says they’ve been told that this man is picked up for work from the gas station and the dog follows…:

The witness who took the picture said she saw the man yell at the dog to go away then sped away in a truck. Dorson says even if this is a daily occurrence, the dog is still in danger of being it or causing an accident. He says they believe they have tracked down the owner..:
