The House appropriations committee approves a plan that would allow the state to draw down federal money that can be used to expand Medicaid coverage. House speaker Chuck Kleckley says the plan involves hospitals putting their financial resources together so the state can draw down federal dollars that can be used to provide health care to low income individuals…

Governor Bobby Jindal opposes Medicaid expansion, calling it a bad deal for the state. But Kleckley says this plan could save up to $200 million for the state’s budget. He says this is real money that can be put in the general fund…

Since this measure is a concurrent resolution, Governor Jindal cannot veto the legislation, but it does need a two-thirds vote of both houses for passage. Kleckley says this measure would set up a mechanism for our next governor to pull from Medicaid expansion money next year…

Collins wore a blue suit for his meeting with investigators and his attorney, Jim Boren, says the All-SEC player cooperated fully…

Collins meeting with detectives lasted about an hour and a half. Boren says his client is still NOT a suspect in Brittany Mills’ homicide…

It’s been reported Collins and Mills had a romantic relationship. Boren would not say whether Collins took a paternity test to confirm whether it was his child that died a week after the shooting. But Boren says the Baton Rouge native is cooperating with the investigation and ready to get his NFL career started…

Baker Police arrested a 32-year-old mother of three for allegedly leaving her three children inside a vehicle for up to 45 minutes. Chief Mike Knaps says a witness arrived at a store at the same time as Tesha Thomas and noticed that Thomas left her three children in the car. He says 30 to 45 minutes later, the witness saw the kids still in the car and called police…

The children, ages 7-years, 20-months, and 4-months, were left in the vehicle with no air conditioning and the windows rolled up. Knaps says, after officers contacted Thomas inside the store and she told them she only went in to pick up a couple of things. He says Thomas was taken into custody after calling another family member to pick up the kids…

He says when officers found the children, the 4-month-old was screaming and its diaper was soaked. Thomas faces three counts of child desertion. Knaps says it is never safe to leave children unattended in a vehicle…

Shreveport Police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a four-year-old boy. Cpl. Marcus Hines says officers were called to a hotel room and and found the boy, identified as Cameron Morris, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head…

Hines says it appears Morris was shot accidentally by another juvenile in the hotel room. He says adults were present and detectives are working to determine who was responsible for the children at the time of the shooting. No charges have been filed at this time. Hines says the alleged shooter in this incident is very young…

Shreveport police say a 4 year old child was fatally shot in the head by a 6 year old child at a hotel Sunday evening. They say it appears to be an accident but an investigation is ongoing to determine who was responsible for watching the children at the time of the shooting.

Former LSU Tiger La’el Collins meets with the Baton Rouge police department today about the shooting death of a pregnant woman that also claimed the life of her one-week old child. Collins was not drafted, because of a concern he may have something to do with this fatal shooting. If cleared, Collins will likely be sought after by every team.

The Saints first pick in the 5th round is a player most football fans never heard of. Linebacker Davis Tull from Tennessee-Chattanooga, who is a three-time Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Payton says they had a high grade on Tull and they were forunate to get him in the 5th round…

LSU baseball team took two of three from Mississippi State this past weekend and they trail Vanderbilt by a half game for first place in the league’s overall standings. The Tigers are tied with Texas A-and-m at 16-and-7 for first place in the SEC West, but LSU owns the tie breaker. The Tigers do not play again until Friday against Missouri.

The Ragin Cajuns dropped two out of three to Appalachian State and find themselves two and a half games back of South Alabama for first place in the league. U-L Lafayette will host the Jaguars this weekend.

ULM took two of three from Troy, Louisiana Tech won its first Conference USA series by taking two of three from Texas San Antonio. Tyler Clancy threw five shutout innings in a three to one win yesterday.

Southeastern Louisiana completed a sweep of Lamar by beating the Cardinals six to nothing. S-L-U has now won 11 straight Southland games and they have a 3-and-half game lead over Northwestern State. The Cowboys are also playing well as they’ve won five in a row, and Nicholls State has won four straight as they defeated Houston Baptist seven to two yesterday.

Former LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins is meeting with Baton Rouge Police Detectives at this hour with his attorney. Cops say they want to talk to Collins about the murder of a pregnant woman they believe he had a relationship with at one time. 29-year-old Brittney Mills was gunned down at her apartment on April 24th. Her baby was delivered but died Friday. The investigation into the murder of Mills is ongoing. Police have not made any arrests or named a suspect.

State Police say a single vehicle crash in Richland Parish has claimed the life of a 77-year-old man. They say Collie Hutto of Rayville’s vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a culvert, and then overturned. Hutto, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Hutto was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

A witness informed authorities that Tesha Cobb left the children, ages 7-years, 20-months, and 7-months, in the vehicle while she went in a store. The witness says when she returned to her vehicle, 30 to 45 minutes later, she noticed the children still inside their mother’s car. Cobb is booked on three counts of child desertion.

Four former LSU Tigers were selected in the NFL Draft. Cornerback Jalen Collins was a second round pick by the Atlanta Falcons. The Vikings grabbed defensive end Danielle Hunter in round three. Tampa selected outside linebacker Kwon Alexander in the fourth. And in the seventh round, the Texans took running back Kenny Hilliard.

In college baseball over the weekend, the number one ranked LSU Tigers won two out of three games against Mississippi State in Southeastern Conference play. LSU improves 40-8 with a league record of 16-7. No games for the Tigers until Friday when they host Missouri in their last regular season series at Alex Box Stadium.

Tulane dropped two of three against 20th ranked Houston, Louisiana Tech won two of three against Texas – San Antonio.

In the Southland, Nicholls State swept Houston Baptist, Northwestern State grabbed a series win at Notre Dame, McNeese State got a sweep against Stephen F. Austin, and Southeastern Louisiana has now won 11 conference games in a row after their three game sweep of Lamar. The Lions remain atop the league standings with Northwestern a close second.

And in the Sun Belt Conference, Appalachian State won two out of three games over UL-Lafayette and ULM won their three game series against Troy. The Ragin Cajuns will regroup to host South Alabama In a three game series beginning Friday. The Warhawks will play on the road this weekend at Arkansas – Little Rock.
