Former NFL stars headline the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame class that will be inducted this weekend in Natchitoches. The 2015 class also includes former LSU Tiger Kevin Faulk, former St. Aug High School Football Coach Otis Washington, former McNeese State defensive back Leonard Smith, New Orleans native and former NBA player/coach, Avery Johnson, former Cajuns and LSU softball coach Yvette Girouard, horse trainer Frank Brothers and former Northeast Louisiana University coach Pat Collins.

In last night’s NBA Draft, former LSU power forward Jarrell Martin was selected in the first round by the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies took Martin with the 25th overall pick in the draft. Martin was an All-SEC selection after finishing third in the conference in scoring, rebounding, and field-goal percentage.

The Boston Celtics drafted former Tiger Jordan Mickey in the second round. Mickey is one of only two players in LSU history to have blocked more than 100 shots in a season. The first was Shaquille O’Neal.

With their only pick in the draft, the Pelicans picked former Michigan State small forward Branden Dawson, who the team promptly turned around and traded to the Clippers for cash.

The Houston Astros are sending their first round pick, former LSU shortstop Alex Bregman, to Iowa to begin his professional career. It is expected that Bregman will make his pro debut this weekend for for the Quad City River Bandits.

LSU baseball finished fifth in the final USA Today and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls. The Tigers led the nation with 54 victories.

First there will be a fundraising event at a local hotel, hosted by Benson, shipbuilder Boysie Bollinger, former Congressman Bob Livingston and others. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it’s not a surprise that Jindal would begin raising funds for his campaign in Louisiana…

The 65th Annual Louisiana Peach Festival begins today and there are hopes to make a little history. Festival Organizer Brandon Sutherland says they plan to set a Guinness World Record for the largest peach cobbler.

Sutherland says it’ll take over 800 pounds of peaches to create the cobbler. He says businesses all over Ruston donated ingredients and materials to achieve the goal.

Sutherland says festival goers will be able to get a taste of the worlds largest peach cobbler. He says there will be no charge for a piece, but there will be a donation bucket.

As temperatures continue to rise this summer it’s a good idea to remember your pets require special care to avoid heatstroke. The LSU Veterinary School says they have already seen two fatal cases of heatstroke this month. Associate professor and veterinarian Dr. Kirk Ryan dogs can’t tolerate scorching temperatures and extreme exercise..:

Ryan says dogs cannot tell us when they feel hot, so it’s our responsibility to ensure that our pets have sufficient shelter from the sun. He says one of the most important things you can do is always make sure your pet has plenty of water…:

Ryan says puppies, kittens, older dogs and cats and animals with short snouts or muzzles such as pugs and bulldogs are at increased risk. He says heatstroke is an absolute emergency and needs to be treated immediately by cooling off with a water hose and going to a vet…:

Yahoo-dot-com’s mock draft has Memphis with the 25th overall pick taking Jarrell Martin, while Gary Parrish, with C-B-S Sports has Boston selecting Jordan Mickey with the 28th overall pick. Ricky Blanton of the LSU Sports Radio Network says Mickey’s stock is on the rise, because of good pre-draft workouts and NBA scouts appreciate his skill set…

Louisiana Tech announces that they are naming the new south end zone facility at Joe Aillet Stadium in honor of the Davison Family, which has supported the Bulldog athletic program and university for three generations. Officials broke ground on the facility 14 months ago, and it’s expected to be operational for the season opener against Southern on September fifth.

LSU baseball finished fifth in the final USA Today and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls. The Tigers led the nation with 54 victories. The college baseball season wrapped up last night with Virginia beating Vanderbilt four to two for the national title.

Five-time major league All-Star Josh Hamilton makes a rehab star at Zephyr Field tonight. The Rangers put Hamilton on the D-L earlier this month with a left hamstring injury and he’ll play tonight for the Round Rock Express. Hamilton has only played in seven games this season for Texas.

Monsanto announces possible plans to make a 1 billion dollar expansion to their Luling plant.  The addition would produce a new product line to help  soybeans, cotton and corn. St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre says this is very exciting and Monsanto has always been a great industrial partner…

St. Pierre says the plant would create 95 direct, 450 indirect, and 1,000 construction jobs. He says the final decision to expand the plant will be in the early part of 2016.

The bird pooping problem at Alex Box Stadium is about to be over, as work crews are installing special netting to the bottom of the grandstands overhang that should offer protection. The construction should be complete in time for fall practice. Speaking of LSU baseball, former shortstop Alex Bregman is now a Houston Astro, agreeing to terms and a signing bonus expected to be about 6 million dollars.

Governor Bobby Jindal has signed into law what’s become known as the revenge porn bill. The legislation by Kenner Representative Julie Stokes makes it a crime to share an explicit photo of someone without their permission with the intent to cause harm. Jindal says this is blatant disregard for personal privacy and the number of people affected by this is shocking.
