Grambling State University Presidential Interviews have begun. Today the public and media are hearing questions from Dr. Wayne Brumfield, Dr. Gilbert L. Rochon, and Dr. Thomas Calhoun. Tomorrow will be Dr. Willie Larkin and Dr. Glenda Carter. The new GSU leader will be chosen Thursday.

The Vermilion Parish city of Kaplan is buzzing as an HBO film crew is shooting for a new series there. Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission Director, Allison Miller, says the series is called “Quarry”…:

Miller says the shoot is expected to last about a week and the series will air on Cinemax sometime next year.

The first NCAA Super Regional game between LSU and UL-Lafayette will be Saturday night at Alex Box Stadium at 7pm. Many Purple and Gold and Ragin Cajun fans are planning to head out to campus early that morning to tailgate ahead of the big matchup. Public university leaders are pushing the state legislature to approve a higher education tax credit that’s having trouble getting support in the Louisiana House. University of Louisiana system President Sandra Woodley says the legislation is needed to prevent deep cuts to four and two year colleges…:

The legislation, which has been called the SAVE fund, is facing push back from House members. They say its a complicated and only offered, because Governor Jindal doesn’t want to break his Americans for Tax Reform’s no-new-taxes pledge.

The 5 presidential semi-finalists for Grambling State are being interviewed this week and the university is naming a new leader on Thursday. The interviews are all public and open to the media and GSU spokeswoman Tracy Wright says they are excited about the process…:

The game on Sunday will either be at 5pm or 6pm and on Monday, if necessary, the game is still TBD. Saturday night’s game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert says with an increase in their education initiative, they want to ensure that more places will do the right thing and not sell to minors…

Monroe Police say a man is being evaluated for mental issues after confronting several people with a knife at a local department store. They say the man confronted some people in the parking lot with a knife and then went into the store and confronted someone he knew. When Police arrived, the unidentified man told them to shoot him. Officers were able to take the knife from the man without anyone getting injured. The man is being evaluated at a local hospital.

The Abbeville Police Department says a Lafayette man has been arrested after leading authorities on a high speed chase. They say, during a traffic stop for reckless operaton, 27-year-old Justin St. Julien, sped away and a chase ensued. St. Julien stopped near the Vermillion River where he tried, unsuccessfully, to flee on foot. St. Julien was arrested on multiple charges including possession of a controlled substance with a firearm.

He says lawmakers are having a hard time understanding the legislation, especially in the House where the bill is pending…

Louisiana Tech will have at least seven football games broadcast on national television this fall. Fox Sports One will televise the games against Western Kentucky and Rice. Five other matchups will be televised on the Fox Family of Networks throughout the season. Tech’s home conference opener against Florida International on September 26 will be televised on Fox College Sports.

The 40th playing of the Independence Bowl has been scheduled for Saturday December 26th at 4:45 PM. The game will be televised this year on one of the ESPN Networks. The Indy Bowl is still trying to nail down a title sponsor for the game, after Duck Commander ended its deal with the bowl game.

In Major League Baseball, Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman was three-for-five at the plate with a two-run home run as the Braves defeated Arizona last night 8-1. Atlanta currently sits two-and-a-half games out of first place in the National League East.

The Astros scored for runs in the bottom of the seventh and then held on to take a 5-2 win over Baltimore in Houston.

State lawmakers are looking at increasing title fees when a person purchases a new or used vehicle by another 50-dollars. Senate Transportation Chairman Robert Adley says the additional revenue will go towards State Police operations, so they can stop taking money away from a fund designed to pay for road and bridge work…:

The proposed title fee increase has been amended to a bill already passed by the House that’s awaiting a vote in the Senate.

There’s a bill moving through the legislature that would put a hold on Louisiana’s sales tax Holidays as a way to plug the budget hole — at least temporarily, but Senators did not want to temporarily suspend the one in September for firearms. The committee voted 7-2 to remove the gun sales tax holiday from the suspension legislation.

The House Ways and Means Committee delayed Monday’s meeting due to issues with a bill that would establish the SAVE program giving colleges a tax credit for raising fees on students. Chairman Joel Robideaux says he wants to give the administration time to address concerns. The bill faced harsh criticism in the Senate by Karen Carter Peterson who implies that all this proposal does is help the governor’s personal ambitions…:

It will be LSU and U-L Lafayette in a super regional series next weekend at Alex Box Stadium. For the second time in three days, the Tigers defeated UNC-Wilmington two to nothing. Jared Poche threw 8.2 innings of shutout baseball and struck out eight. Coach Paul Mainieri on his sophomore left-hander’s performance…
