About 175 families will get a chance to enjoy holiday meals all because of the efforts of a teenage boy. 14-year-old Cortland Reed collected 2,629 pounds of food at his annual food drive to be donated to the Opelousas Food Bank. Reed’s goal last year was to collect 1-thousand pounds. He says he got his inspiration after watching a television commercial about starving people in the area and wanted to help feed kids like him.

The man accused of fatally stabbing his father and injuring his mother in Gretna, was arrested near Hattieburg, Mississippi. After a K-9 team was sent in, 32-year-old Ronald Pritchett was taken into custody at his home at around 3 a.m. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand says the stabbing occurred after an argument over food. He says 57-year-old Renta Pritchett was stabbed in the head and is expected to survive and 58-year-old Percival Pritchett was pronounced dead at the hospital after multiple stab wounds to the chest.
