The New Orleans Pelicans summer league team begins action tomorrow in Las Vegas. They’ll take on the Milwaukee bucks, who have former LSU Tiger Johnny O’ Bryant on their roster.

LSU men’s basketball announced today that they’ll host Kennesaw State out of the Atlantic Sun Conference and South Alabama prior to playing in Brooklyn in the Legends Classic. The game against Kennesaw will take place November 16th in the PMAC and the Tigers will host South Alabama on November 19th.

Ragin Cajuns baseball coach Tony Robichaux has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension that will keep him in the UL Lafayette dugout through the 2020 season. Robichaux has led the Cajuns to back-to-back apperances in the NCAA Tournament.

Southeastern Louisiana baseball coach Matt Riser has also agreed to a new multi-year contract. Riser has agreed to a new 3-year deal after winning 80 games the past two seasons in Hammond.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man shot and killed his 7-year-old daughter, then turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder/suicide. Sheriff Doug Anderson says they got a 911 call around 8:50pm Wednesday evening in reference to two bodies laying in a field in the Vick area…:

Even though 388 soldiers from Fort Polk have been cut, resulting from the Army’s nation-wide troop reduction, officials are relieved that the base will not be touched by the reductions. He says their main concern was cuts to the depolyable combat brigade, there will be no loses there…

The investigation continues in Zachary following a discovery of the body of a sex offender. Authorities found 47-year-old Robert Noce had been stabbed, strangled and stuffed in a plastic drum at his home. A 21-year-old man and 17-year-old woman-have been charged in his murder. The woman is listed in court documents as one of Doce’s victims.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has outlined his proposal to relocate prominent Confederate monuments-including the Robert E Lee statue at Lee Circle and the Jefferson Davis statue on Jefferson Davis Parkway; a roadway he says that also needs to be renamed. After some rather heated discussion in a city council meeting today, Landrieu says there should be a 60-day discussion period to begin the process of removing the Confederate symbols.

Reese says the Joint Readiness Training Center on the base will not be touched by the reduction. He says their main concern was cuts to the depolyable combat brigade, which also will not lose any soldiers.

Court documents show that one of the two individuals charged with murder in East Baton Rouge Parish was a sex crime victim of the man who was killed. Robert Noce of Zachary was found stuffed in a drum at his home. He was indicted for aggravated rape and court records list the 17-year-old arrested for his murder as the victim.

The US Army has confirmed that Fort Polk in Vernon Parish will lose 388 soldiers and other personnel over the next two years as part of a reduction plan that will reduce the number of troops nationally by 40-thousand. Fort Polk officials say this is actually good news, because there was a concern that the cuts would be worse.

Parents, teachers and students who want to provide public comments about Common Core can now so at an online portal set up by the state department of education. Pelicans star Anthony Davis has officially signed his max offer contract extension that will pay him 145-million dollars over a five year period. The new deal will begin with the 2016-17 season and keep Davis in New Orleans for at least another six years. Davis signed the contract in Hong Kong, where he is working with youth camps. The Advocate’s Luke Johnson reports that U-L Lafayette baseball coach Tony Robichaux has received a five-year contract extension that kicked in on July 1st. Robichaux will reportedly receive just over 125-thousand dollars and he could receive more based on the team’s performance on the field and in the classroom.

The Manning Passing Academy gets underway today on the campus of Nicholls State. This is the 11th year the camp for high school athletes has taken place in Thibodaux. The highlight of the event is the quarterback challenge on Saturday night at Guidry Stadium.

Camping World is reportedly the new sponsor of the Independence Bowl, but the officials with the I-Bowl have yet to confirm that report. The Shreveport bowl game has been looking for a sponsor since March, when Duck Commander backed out of its affiliation with the game.

LSU senior punter Jamie Keehn is one of 25 players on the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list, which goes to college football’s best punter. Keehn averaged nearly 45 yards a punt last season, which was the second best in the SEC.

Tulane University and North Carolina have agreed to a three-game series in men’s basketball. The Green Wave will play at Chapel hill during the upcoming season and again 2017-2018, then Tulane hosts the Tar Heels during the 2016-2017 season.

Several media outlets are reporting the man who was previously convicted of second-degree murder in the death and dismemberment of Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart, is getting life in prison. Terry Speaks was last seen leaving a club in New Orleans with the victim along with another woman, Margaret Sanchez, before cops believe the two cut Lockhart up and threw the remains in the Gulf. Sanchez’s trial date has been set for December 7th.
