Several locations statewide set or tied record high temperatures Monday afternoon and the oppressive heat continues to stay over Louisiana. Most of the state remains under an extreme heat advisory until 8pm. Some good news, there is an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms moving across parts of the state helping to cool things off this afternoon.

Slidell Police released video today of a 50-year-old motorcyclist who survives a horrific accident with an 18-wheeler. Public Information Officer Daniel Seuzeneau says usually when you hear of an accident like this you assume the worst but it’s a miracle he survived…:

State Police are investigating a crash in Morehouse Parish which left an unrestrained infant dead. 1-year-old Aniyia Worsham, who was riding in the lap of a front seat passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and died from her injuries. Trooper Michael Reichardt says 23-year-old Shatora Hall of Bastrop was driving and there were five other people in the car at the time:

He says Hall has been charged with reckless operation and a no child restraint violation.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley is reminding women about the importance of learning how to safely handle a weapon if you feel your life is in danger. The message comes on the heels of the death of a woman in Geismar who was beaten to death with a baseball bat allegedly by her estranged husband. The victim had a restraining order against the man. Wiley added the reminder sounds extreme but extreme violence requires extra protection efforts.

ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert says nearly 5,500 compliance checks resulted in 821 citations statewide. He says these numbers are consistent with previous years…:

Of the citations issued, 460 were for alcohol sales to a minor and 361 for tobacco sales.

Prices at the pump dropped another penny from the day before. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular according to AAA is $2.33.

The Tigers kick-off the season against McNeese State. LSU has announced that for the 12th straight season, they’ve sold their allotment of season tickets.

UL Lafayette wide receiver Jared Johnson has injured his left knee and he’ll miss the rest of the season. Johnson had ten catches last season, but had a chance to start this year.

ULM senior wide receiver Tyler Cain will reportedly miss the rest of the season with a lower body injury. Cain was expected to be the starting H-back this season.

Charlie was a friendly 2-year-old cat adopted last year by the Worthington family in St. Tammany Parish. Baton Rouge Police say the father of a months old infant who died Saturday from blunt force trauma is booked on a count of murder. Detectives updated the count against 28-year-old John Hope from second degree cruelty to a juvenile to first degree murder in the death of his daughter. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner ruled the baby’s death a homicide.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Morse man accused of having sexual contact with a 16-year-old. 25-year-old Travis Benoit allegedly made contact through social media and met the victim in an area parking lot where the incident took place. Benoit was booked into the Acadia Parish jail on a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

An online study conducted by onlyinyourstate-dot-com names the Calcasieu Parish town of DeQuincy as the safest place to live in Louisiana. Statistics from 2013 FBI crime reports show that DeQuincy had the highest population in the state with zero violent crimes. Mayor Lawrence Henagan says extra patrols at night help contribute to the safety of the people in the town on a larger scale…

According to InsuranceQuotes.com, it costs 26 percent more for young adults to get their own car insurance policy in Louisiana than staying on their parent’s. But senior analyst Laura Adams says even if a teen goes on their own policy, there are ways to save money. She says young adults can qualify for a good student discount by keeping around a “B” average and staying proactive with sending in their results…

State Police say an infant is dead after a single vehicle crash in Morehouse Parish. They say 23-year-old Shatora Hall of Bastrop lost control of her vehicle, ran off the road, and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to roll on its side. 1-year-old Aniyia Worsham, who was riding in the lap of a front seat passenger, was ejected from the vehicle. Worsham was transported to a local hospital where she died. The child was the only person in the vehicle who was not restrained. The investigation is ongoing.

The New Orleans Saints final practice of the week is today then they’ll fly out Wednesday to Baltimore for Thursday’s preseason game against the Ravens. They started the second week of training camp with a full pads practice at the Greenbrier in West Virginia and worked for a little over two hours. Coach Sean Payton says he likes what he’s seeing..

ULM Athletic Director Brian Wickstrom isn’t leaving Monroe — at least not anytime soon. Wickstrom had been a candidate for the AD job at the University of Akron but says he withdrew his name from consideration Monday afternoon. Wickstrom came to ULM in July 2013 after spending three years as the Athletic Director at the University of California-Riverside.

LSU went through the first full squad practice of the fall and the battle for the starting quarterback position is far from over. Coach Les Miles said that sophomore Brandon Harris continues to get the first snaps, but if it will be he or Anthony Jennings that will start on September 5th against McNeese has not been decided…

Jennings started 12 games for the Tigers a year ago, passing for 1,611 yards and 11 touchdowns. Harris played in nine games with one start last year as a true freshman. He threw for 452 yards and six touchdowns and added another 159 yards and three scores on the ground.

LSU has sold out of season tickets for the 12th straight football season as 74,350 season tickets have been purchased for this year’s home schedule. This ties the school record set last year when Tiger Stadium was expanded to seat over 100,000 fans.
