Louisiana State Police say a Lottie man died after being involved in a head on collision with Acadian Ambulance. 61-year-old Brett Bergeron was driving south on LA 411 in Livonia when, for unknown reasons, his truck crossed the center line into north bound traffic and struck the ambulance head-on. The ambulance driver sustained minor injuries. Bergeron was wearing a seatbelt during the accident but suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Grenta truck driver is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Commander Eric Becnel says 29-year-old Peter James Wilson III met up with the girl and forced her to perform sexual acts in the sleeper compartment of his truck. He says Wilson claims he’s never seen the victim in person.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the crime scene authorities have been searching for human remains under the I-10 Bridge this week. He says no body has been found but they have evidence 35-year-old Gammion McCloud, of Arizona, killed someone and threw them over the bridge.

McCloud was arrested in Oregon on unrelated charges and will soon be extradited back to Calcasieu and charged with aggravated rape, aggravated incest and second degree battery.

State lawmakers have learned this fiscal year’s budget shortfall is projected at 713 million dollars. Director of the Louisiana Budget Project Jan Moller says this is a sign that the new governor will be faced will big fiscal problems next year.

Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a 19-year-old Larose man. Cody Duet was driving south on LA 308 in Thibodaux, when for unknown reasons, his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road after taking a left hand curve. The car hit a ditch and flipped over. Duet was not wearing a seatbelt and ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Director of the Louisiana Budget Project Jan Moller says they aren’t surprised with this number. He says this is a sign the next governor and legislature need to address the importance of budget reform.

The extreme rainfall and heavy storms earlier in the summer that caused the Red River flooding resulted in almost 7 million dollars in damage to agriculture in Northwest Louisiana. Kurt Guidry, LSU AgCenter economist, says this is just a preliminary estimate and expects the numbers to be even higher.

 

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office says a track driver is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Commander Eric Becnel says 29-year-old Peter James Wilson III of Gretna chatted with the teenager on a smartphone app last month and planned to meet. He says after meeting up, Wilson took the girl to the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse where he was making a delivery.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso says this week the crime scene authorities have been looking under the I-10 bridge in relation to a body dumping case. Director of the Louisiana Budget Project Jan Moller says it’s not a surprise we’re looking at a big deficit but we’re in better shape than we were a year ago, when the deficit reached 1.6 billion dollars.

Moller says it’s good to see that the four gubernatorial candidate have acknowledged the state’s budget problems.

The Jindal administration had said that they would use the “Heritage Act” to prevent the removal of four confederate monuments in New Orleans. But the Baton Rouge Advocate reports there’s no such thing as the “Heritage Act” on the state’s books. It’s expected the New Orleans City Council will consider removing the monuments after the city’s landmark’s commission voted that the statues should be taken down.

A survey from the LSU Public Policy Research Lab finds Louisiana residents are becoming more disgruntled over the direction the state is heading. Researchers say in January, 45% of the respondents said the state is moving in the wrong direction, but they asked that question again this summer and now the percentage is up to 59. They believe things will turn around once a new governor is sworn in.

Mancuso said they already had a warrant for rape out on McCloud in connection with a 2014 incident in which he allegedly continually raped and beat a woman at a local motel in front of a young child. He says there is plenty of evidence that McCloud dumped a body in 2013 but it could have been washed away…:
