Louisiana chef Jay Ducote was not the big winner last night on this season’s Food Network Star. The title instead went to former NFL player Eddie Jackson. Ducote found out along with the rest of the viewers that he is the runner-up on the cooking competition’s 11th season. He says his first reaction was extreme disappointment…:

Ducote had referenced his Louisiana and Cajun roots throughout the Food Network Star season. He says he sees this is as just the beginning of a long, promising career as a Louisiana chef.

Louisiana Tech is mourning the death of track and field student-athlete Noah Riche. The 22-year-old, who was a javelin thrower, was killed in an automobile accident in Arkansas after working at a Christian children’s camp at Camp Ozark. The Madisonville native was also an engineering major at Tech.

A state district judge has thrown out the lawsuit of a candidate for the State House of Representatives who wanted to be listed as both Democrat and Republican on the ballot. Houma attorney Damon Baldone filed the suit after the Terrebonne Parish registrar of voters listed his party affiliation as “other”. Baldone feels he has the Constitutional right to register with both parties…:

Baldone, who served on the State House as a Democrat from 2001 to 2012, says he plans to file an appeal with the State Supreme Court.

The Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s Office says a woman is facing many charges after going on an apparent tirade against her ex-boyfriend and several others. Captain Dawn Foret says they received 911 calls regarding 25-year-old Miranda Riley of Dularge ramming her vehicle into other cars and trying to fight with multiple people while armed with a knife:

Foret says they also believe Riley set the victim’s trailer on fire and bashed in all of the windows. The woman charges include of arson and felony criminal damage to property.

Through the first major scrimmage of LSU’s fall camp, Brandon Harris has the lead over Anthony Jennings in the battle for starting quarterback. Coach Les Miles says Harris received more of the snaps with the first unit during a scrimmage on Saturday night. Harris appeared in nine games last season, but didn’t see many significant snaps in final few games but coach maintains he’s more comfortable with the offense this season.

With 19 days to go before the season opener, sophomore Brandon Harris has the edge over Anthony Jennings in the quarterback battle at LSU. Harris took more snaps than Jennings with the first unit during a scrimmage on Saturday night. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron says he’s encouraged by the work Harris put in during the offseason, by adding about 20 pounds of muscle to his six-foor-three frame…

ULM announces that this Saturday will be Fan apperciation night. The Warhawks are set to hold a scrimmage at JPS Field at Malone Stadium at six-thirty and then after the scrimmage, there will be a meet and greet with the players.

The Pelicans have announced they will hold training camp at the Greenbrier in While Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, the same place the Saints currently hold training camp. The Pelicans 2015 training camp will take place at the Greenbrier from September 29th to October 2nd.

And the Saints have reportedly signed former Ragin Cajuns linebacker Justin Anderson. The Foley, Alabama, native played in two games with the Giants last year.

Authorities in Arkansas have released details of a fatal collision which claimed the life of a Louisiana Tech track and field athlete. They say 22-year-old Noah James Richie of Madisonville died in the accident near the Joplin community in western Arkansas when the car he was driving crossed the center line on the roadway and hit another vehicle head on. Rich, who was the javelin thrower on the Tech Track and field team was pronounced dead on scene.

Legal experts anticipate the debate over the Confederate monuments in New Orleans will go on for years and years. The legislative process of removing 4 statues from their current location has started. New Orleans Attorney Tim Meche says in addition to lawsuits and legal matters, there’s the question of how much this will cost and who is going to pay for it…:

Mayor Mitch Landrieu started the conversation about moving the Robert E Lee statue from Lee Circle during a national conversation about Confederate symbols in late June.

State Police say a man from Houston was arrested after he was caught using fake money at a casino in Lake Charles. They say 27-year-old William Jabour tried to buy into a table with counterfeit bills and had already used them on roulette and craps. Investigators found bogus $100 and $50 bills in Jabour’s possession. He was charged with 49 counts of monetary instrument abuse and faces a million dollar fine and up to 10 years in prison.

State Police say an Alexandria man is dead after a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Jefferson Davis Parish. Authorities say 62-year-old Donald Stanfield failed to negotiate a right turn onto an exit ramp on I-10. The motorcycle traveled off the roadway and struck a sign, ejecting Stanfield. Stanfield, who was wearing an approved helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is promoting their Catch and Cook Program that allows anglers to bring their catch to a local restaurant to be prepared by a chef. Franklin Senator Bret Allain says it doesn’t cost a restaurant anything to participate in the program and they can charge the guest any amount they choose for the prepared dish.

Donaldsonville receiver Stephen Sullivan has announced his de-commitment from LSU through a social media post. Sullivan, who ranks 12th among receivers in 247Sports’ class of 2016, says LSU will remain one of his top schools. The four star recruit lists TCU, Auburn, and Mississippi State as other schools of interest.

Sources confirm that the Saints have released tight end Alex Smith. The veteran was signed following an ACL injury to rookie tight end Jack Tabb. In Thursday preseason opener, Smith took part in three snaps and caught one pass for no yards. The Black & Gold also released long snapper Chris Highland. The Saints next preseason game is Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against New England.

It looks like Saints running back CJ Spiller will be out for the rest of the preseason. Spiller had minor knee surgery after being kept off the field during both the team scrimmage and the preseason opener against Baltimore. Spiller is expected to be back for week one of the regular season.

In Major League Baseball, Cameron Maybin hit a lead off home run in the 10th inning to lift the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jose Altuve’s two out ninth inning RBI gave the Houston Astros a 6-5 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Adrian Beltre hit his 406th career homer as the Texas Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3.
