If the season started today, Brandon Harris would likely be the starting quarterback for the LSU Tigers. Harris is getting a majority of the reps with the first team over last year’s starter Anthony Jennings. But Jennings says he hasn’t played his best football yet..

In addition to wearing number seven on the field, LSU sophomore running back Leonard Fournette came in seventh place in ESPN’s preseason Heisman Watch Poll. Fournette’s three points in the poll make him somewhat of a dark horse candidate to take home the trophy. Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot tops the poll with 40 points.

The ULM football depth chart shows Garrett Smith as the Warhawks’ first string quarterback. Smith is a redshirt freshman from Spring Branch, Texas. In his senior season at Smithson Valley High School, he threw for nearly 21-hundred yards, 21 touchdowns and he was intercepted only three times. He also rushed for 685 yards and 11 scores.

UL Lafayette Coach Mark Hudspeth says the battle to be the starting quarterback for the Ragin Cajuns is down to two players, but he’s keeping quiet on which two. Hudspeth plans to keep it a secret on who will be the starting QB for the season opener at Kentucky.

Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner Troy Hebert says a thief stole his state issued vehicle and attempted to set it on fire. Hebert says this isn’t the first time A-T-C has been targeted. He says six of their vehicles were shot up outside of headquarters about two years ago and he also learned of comments threatening to shoot him and bomb his office…

Blue Bell says they will once again be distributing ice cream starting August 31st in select markets. Four months ago the company was forced to cease their entire operation and recall all products after its ice cream was linked to 10 listeria illnesses and three deaths. LSU marketing professor Dan Rice says Blue Bell needs to earn back the public’s trust…

A former Rayne part time police officer is in jail on charges of multiple sex crimes against children. Acadia Parish Sheriff’s office spokesperson Maxine Trahan says investigators received a complaint against Troy Bryant Menard earlier this month and immediately launched an investigation.

Trahan says there were two known victims but couldn’t release more information regarding his charges. She says Menard was a patient in the hospital when a warrant was issued and was arrested soon after being discharged.

Trahan says this is a big disappointment for the Rayne Police Department that they had to investigate one of their own. She says Police Chief Carroll Stelly did what he had to do and fired Menard from the force as soon as he found out this information.

The Division of Administration says they have received proposals from five groups who may be interested in redeveloping the former hospital building but a timeline on the future use of the building hasn’t been established. Kennedy says there is not a lot of transparency in this process.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Angelle has a new TV ad out. It’s called “I’m Ready” and it highlights his plans to ramp up the state’s workforce development programs. So far Angelle has been the only candidate in the governor’s race to release television ads.

A candidate for the state House of Representatives plans to appeal a judge’s ruling that says he can’t list himself as a republican and democrat on the October 24th ballot. Judge David Arceneaux ruled that it would create confusion for the voter. But Houma Attorney Damon Baldone, a candidate for House District 52, disagrees…

The Kentucky Wildcats have named a starting QB. Patrick Towles beat out freshmand Drew Barker. Towles started alst season as a sophomore and threw for 27-hundred yards and 14 touchdowns.

Elsewhere in the SEC…Alabama quarterback Jake Coker will miss the next few days because of a minor foot injury. Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams will miss the entire 2015 regular season, because he’ll undergo foot surgery.

After a denial of a request by a federal appellate court to re-hear the case of some death row inmates at Angola to get air-conditioning, attorneys may ask for the Supreme Court to step in. A Baton Rouge federal judge first ruled that prison officials should consider other methods- besides air conditioning- to keep heat indexes on death at or below 88 degrees.
