As the Saints head to New Orleans for Saturday’s preseason matchup against the New England Patriots, they say goodbye to the Greenbriar. The team’s first three weeks of training camp were held at the resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The remainder of training camp will take place at the team’s headquarters in Metairie. The Greenbriar will now get ready to host the New Orleans Pelicans’ training camp from September 29th to October 2nd.

It does looks like the Saints’ may have dodged a bullet. Defensive end Akiem Hicks left Wednesday’s joint practice with the Patriots with an undisclosed injury. He was later able to leave the locker room under his own power. A team source says the injury is not considered serious and should be nothing to worry about. The nature of the injury was not disclosed.

In other NFC South news, Panthers’ wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin will miss the upcoming season because of a torn ACL. As a rookie last season he caught 73 passes and scored nine touchdowns.

Louisiana Tech has reached the mid point of fall camp. Coach Skip Holtz says several Bulldogs are sitting out because of bumps and bruises. One of those players is wide receiver Paul Turner, who has a broken nose. He should be back in action in a few days. Saturday the team will hold its fan fest at the Thomas Assembly Center beginning at 3PM.

UL-Lafayette has their annual Fall Fan Day set for this Sunday at the Cajundome. Ragin Cajun fans will have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from football, volleyball, soccer, and basketball players and coaches. You’ll also get the chance to get some free stuff. Fan Day starts at 5PM.

Detroit right hander Alfredo Simon threw a complete game one-hit shutout as the Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 4-0. This was Simon’s first career shutout.

Tampa Bay right hander Chris Archer also threw a complete game one-hit shutout as the Rays topped the Astros 1-0.

Anthony Rizzo’s three-run homer in the third inning helped the Chicago Cubs drum the Atlanta Braves 7-1.

For those heading west on I-10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, be prepared for lane closures on the weekend and at night in West Baton Rouge Parish. Starting today, asphalt replacement will begin on Interstate 10 westbound between L-A 415 in Port Allen to the Iberville Parish Line. State Department of Transportation Spokesperson Rodney Mallett says they expect construction to take about 60 days if weather permits.

Mallett says one lane will always be open in each direction and there will be no lane closures on LSU and Southern University football game weekends or on major holidays. He advises motorists leaving Baton Rouge and heading west on Friday night, to take an alternate route to avoid traffic.

Hurricane Danny in the Atlantic continues to move on west-northwest track towards the Windward Islands. The storm currently doesn’t pose a threat to land, but State Climatologist Barry Keim says we need to keep an eye on it…

There is a huge buzz around the state right now over the purported Baton Rouge Ashley Madison list which includes some fairly prominent names. The executive director of the statewide Republican Party Jason Dore says his name is on the list because his law firm routinely searches such online databases to provide clients with reports. There are 639 names on the Baton Rouge list.

A Covington Fire Department official says three students from Covington High School were taken to the hospital this afternoon suffering from suspected drug overdoses. The Fire Department was called to the school after a report of an unresponsive student at lunch. Another student was also found unresponsive and a third reportedly told officials they had all taken the banned synthetic drug Mojo. At last report, the conditions of the three teens was unknown.

An Oakdale woman accused of killing, burning, and burying a pregnant woman and her unborn baby wants to change her plea. Pamela Causey-Fregia wants to plead not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2011 death of Victoria Perez and her unborn child. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it’s often difficult to establish an insanity defense…:

Officials believe Causey-Fregia killed the pregnant Perez with the intent of taking her baby and raising it as her own.

Hurricane Danny continues to churn in the Atlantic as the first hurricane of the 2015 season. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s a relatively small storm with hurricane force winds extending only 10 miles from the center. He says that makes it much harder to predict what exactly it will do so we need to keep an eye on it..:

27-year-old 27-year-old Terry Landry is charged with domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment and criminal neglect.

State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says of these cases, 10 were the neuroinvasive disease, the more serious form of the virus. He says a small number of infected people will develop serious symptoms…:

He says it’s important to take preventative measures when outdoors.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says two men have been cited for alleged alligator violations in Grant Parish. They say 38-year-old Chad Watts and 43-year-old Patrick Daniels of Colfax took alligators during a closed season and with no license. 12 gators were found recently harvested at the subject’s residence. The two face hefty fines and up to 120 days in jail.

Danny strengthened enough this morning to become the first hurricane of the 2015 season. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Danny could become a Category 2 storm in the next couple of days. He says as Hurricane Danny moves toward the Caribbean, it will hit an area of higher wind shear that will likely weaken the storm…:

He says hurricane Danny is tracked to move over the Lesser Antilles Monday morning then Puerto Rico Tuesday morning.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a teenager who confessed to stabbing his aunt to death because the devil made him. Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle says the teen committed the horrible act while his aunt, Yolanda Hunter, was sleeping and she died later at a hospital..:

The teen is charged with second degree murder.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a teenager in connection with a stabbing death of a relative. Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle says officers received a call about a woman suffering from injuries who had driven herself to a relative’s house. He says that’s where they found Yolanda Hunter…

He says Hunter said her 15-year-old nephew, who was living with her, was responsible for the stabbing. Hunter was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Arbuckle says the teen confessed to stabbing his aunt while she was sleeping…

Arbuckle says the teen apparently decided he needed to kill someone and began stabbing his aunt while she slept. The teenager is charged with second degree murder. His name has not been released because he is a juvenile. Arbuckle says the entire situation is just tragic…

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested a man who is accused of keeping his 17-year-old girlfriend captive in a home also occupied by his 7-year-old child. Commander Chris Ivey says deputies responded to a Jennings home where they located the victim who told them she’d been held against her will by 27-year-old Terry Landry:

Ivey says the 17-year-old victim had multiple injuries to her body including bite marks and bruises from choking. He says the young child was found by deputies in disgusting room with drug related paraphernalia and pornography…:

Activists are now offering more reward money for information leading to an arrest in the case of a cat cut in half and left on display on a Covington golf course. They say anyone who comes forward with information about who did this to the cat will get a $1700 reward. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has formed an animal abuse task force to try and solve the crime.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals confirmed a total of 20 cases statewide of West Nile virus so far this summer. They say 10 of this year’s cases have been neuroinvasive, two have been West Nile fever and eight have been asymptomatic. Health officials say whether your children are playing sports or your grilling outside, it’s very important to wear mosquito repellent.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested a man who is accused of keeping his 17-year-old girlfriend captive in a home also occupied by his 7-year-old child. It was a rough day Wednesday for the oil and gas industry. During a federal oil lease sale in New Orleans, only five companies placed bids on 33 tracts in the Western Gulf of Mexico which is the lowest in history.
