State Police say a Shreveport man is dead after a two vehicle crash on I-20 in Richland Parish. They say an 18-wheeler changed lanes in front of an SUV driven by 39-year-old Preston Jones. The rear of the trailer struck Jones’s vehicle causing it to spin out of control and flip over. Jones, who was not restrained, was ejected. He was transported to a local hosital where he later died. The investigation is ongoing.

The Head of State Police is calling Robert Ledoux a hero for his actions following the fatal shooting of Trooper Steven Vincent. Col. Mike Edmonson says once Ledoux got to the scene, he removed the suspect, Kevin Daigle, off the trooper and with the help of others, handcuffed and restrained Daigle. He says that was an extremely tough thing to do…

Ledoux was the first of four people to stop and offer assistance.

Most of the state will get a bit of relief from the oppressive heat that has been plaguing Louisiana lately. State Climatologist Barry Keim says a cold front moving across the Bayou State will keep afternoon highs around 90 degrees with morning lows dropping as low as the mid-60s. He says this front should stay with us for the rest of the work week…

Keim says unfortunately coastal parishes won’t see much relief because there’s just too much hot water in the region keeping humidity levels elevated.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso says deputies did find a male victim who they believe had been living with Daigle. He says they suspect foul play and the case is being investigated as a homicide…

State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson is calling Robert Ledoux a hero due to his actions following the fatal shooting of Vincent. Ledoux was the motorist who stopped and wrestled the gun away from the suspect, Kevin Daigle. Edmonson says Ledoux’s main concern was to try to rescue Trooper Vincent and subdue Daigle…

According to a state audit, the Louisiana State Racing Commission has shortchanged higher education 15-million dollars in gambling money. Houma Representative Joe Harrison says they aren’t looking to punish anyone, they just want the State Racing Commission to pay the money, which is based on fees charged on wagers at off-track betting facilities….

The commission claims a mechanism was never set up for them to distribute money to the Board of Regents.

Louisiana Tech begins its season by hosting Southern on September 5th. Coach Skip Holtz says one of his big concerns is not enough quality back-ups on defense. He spoke following the team’s latest scrimmage….

The state is mourning the loss of a trooper who was shot in the head with a shotgun while in the line of duty near Lake Charles. Forty-three-year-old Steven Vincent died Monday morning. State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says they believe the gunman, 54-year-old Kevin Daigle of Lake Charles, was impaired at the time. He says Vincent wore his badge proudly…:

He says Daigle will be charged with first-degree murder of a police officer. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is also investigating to see if Daigle is also responsibile for a homicide in Moss Bluff. Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the owner of the truck Daigle was driving was found dead today…

Former LSU pitcher Aaon Nola threw a career high eight innings for his fourth win of the year as the Phillies blanked the Marlins two to nothing yesterday. Nola allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out six. He’s now 4-0 in his past six starts and his ERA for the season is 3.59.

There’s one less storm to worry about, as Hurricane Danny has been declared a “remnant” by the National Hurricane Center. Now, their eyes are on a disturbance off the coast of Africa, and they report conditions are favorable for strengthening. An Air Force reconnaissance plane will get a closer look tomorrow afternoon.
