Another brain eating amoeba has been discovered in Louisiana and DHH says this one is in Ouachita Parish in a North Monroe Water System which serves Sterlington. State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says it’s a challenge for water systems to maintain a proper chlorine level through the entire system, especially during the summer…:

The Louisiana Poison Control Center agrees with the FDA’s advice about people staying away from powdered caffeine. Warning letters have been sent out to 5 distributors of the product. Louisiana Poison Control Director Mark Ryan says one teaspoon of pure powdered caffeine is equivalent to more than 30 cups of coffee all at once…:

Grambling Police say they’ve arrested the driver involved in the shooting incident at Grambling, but they continue to search for another suspect. 23-year-old Tre’Stevenson Jones of Monroe, A GSU student, is charged with attempted second degree murder and careless operation. Investigators believe this was a bad drug deal incident on Grambling’s campus Tuesday. 20-year-old Zateriuus Minor, also a Grambling student, is wanted for attempted second degree murder.

Minden Congressman John Fleming has sent a letter to President Obama urging him to hold a National Day of Prayer to stop the violence against police officers. Louisiana has already lost six law enforcement officers in the line of duty this year. Fleming says we can’t allow this pattern of targeting officers to continue.

Fleming is not sure if President Obama will grant this official day but says he needs to do something to reverse this attitude. He says the way the President currently addressing the issue of cop killing isn’t good for our society.

Fleming says if this continues, police officers are going to be reluctant to respond to crimes and this day of prayer is a way send a signal to the country that the President believes violence against law enforcement must stop. But he says he’s not going to stop there.

He says while smaller doses of caffeine in coffee or sodas are okay, danger enters the equation when you’re dealing with powder caffeine in a bulk container..:

Republican Scott Angelle is upset over the fellow Republican David Vitter supporting PAC commercial which accuses the Public Service Commissioner of wanting to “tax the internet” — or require companies to add state sales tax to online purchases. State Police has identified the woman who was killed while riding her bike in Tangipahoa Parish late at night. They say 35-year-old Ashley Thames of Robert was traveling on the US 190 Tangipahoa River Bridge when she was struck from behind by an SUV. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators say there were no reflectors on the bike and it’s not expected that the driver of the vehicle will be cited.

It’s been a quiet governor’s race as we are less than two months away from the October primary.

Bad news for the Saints defense as cornerback Keenan Lewis will reportedly miss the next four to six weeks after undergoing hip surgery. Lewis’ injury adds to what is already a big list of players on defense that are injured. Safety Kenny Vaccaro and cornerback Brandon Browner didn’t play last week against Houston. Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe has been hurt since the preseason opener and safety Jarius Byrd remains on the physically unable to perform list.

Coastal Carolina will join the Sun Belt Conference. The Chanticleers will begin competing in the league next school year, but won’t begin playing football in the league 2017. ULM will face Nick Chubb and the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. It’s the first of eight games on the road for the Warhawks. They’ll also visit Alabama on September 26th. ULM Coach Todd Berry admits he doesn’t have much control over scheduling, because the university needs the income from playing the big-time programs…

A federal judge this afternoon is set to hear Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit case against Governor Bobby Jindal over the Administration’s plan to cancel the organization’s Medicaid contracts. Jindal is upset over videos which allegedly show Planned Parenthood leaders discussing the sale of fetuses. But Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat doesn’t think Jindal can just cancel funding for the program…:

Court documents showed this week that the US Justice Department is siding with Planned Parenthood.

The Ouachita Parish School system reports that two students have been arrested in separate incidents. They say one involved a 7th graders from Woodlawn Elementary who brought an unloaded pistol to school. The other happened at Ouachita High where a 15-year-old allegedly hit a teacher. Both were arrested by the Ouachita Parish sheriff’s deputies Tuesday.

Do you think Shreveport is the most redneck city in Louisiana? A data compiling website called RoadSnacks finds this on their most redneck cities list.
