Governor Bobby Jindal declared today a statewide day of prayer to honor law enforcement and held a prayer rally on the steps of the State Capitol. So far in 2015, Jindal says Louisiana has lost nine police officers which makes us the number two state in the country for law enforcement deaths. He says today is a day to pay our respects for the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us…:

Jindal also gave thanks to the families of the officers who go each day wondering if their loved ones will be coming home.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler says 43 percent of candidates who qualified in offices on the October 24th primary ballot have no challengers. He feels this high percentage is a reflection of voter apathy and could explain low voter turnout. LaPolitics.com reports statewide, 68 seats drew only one candidate while 37 attracted three or more candidates.

A murder-suicide in the East Baton Rouge Parish town of Central has left four people dead including three brothers. EBRSO spokesperson Casey Hicks says they believe 60-year-old Rodney Chemin (KEY-men) was angry with the brothers over music they were listening to and he shot the three before turning the gun on himself. She says they aren’t releasing many details…:

The brothers are 57-year-old Joseph Allen, 55-year-old Perry Allen, and 51-year-old Mark Allen.

Cops say two people in a rental car died Sunday night when the vehicle crashed and burst into flames upon impact off Louisiana Highway 10 just east of the Tangipahoa River. They say authorities responded to the crash site in the town of Wilmer which was in a winding curve on the road. One resident nearby came out to help suppress the fire, but the two occupants in the vehicle did not survive.

Governor Bobby Jindal hosted a prayer rally today on the steps of the State Capitol in Baton Rouge on this statewide day of reflection for law enforcement. It was a touching scene as police and sheriff’s departments from throughout Louisiana were on hand during the event. Jindal says it’s tempting to take law enforcement for granted…:

State Treasurer John Kennedy says New Orleans should adopt a program which allows police to frisk someone for a weapon without probable cause as a way to curb crime. He says people aren’t going to visit, move to or invest in a city where they don’t feel safe…:

The Baton Rouge Police Department says a 25-year-old man was shot and killed while he was driving his vehicle on I-10 over the weekend. They say Herbert Williams of Baker died when shots were fired from another passing vehicle early Sunday. Investigators do not believe the shooting was random but they currently don’t have suspects or motives.

Many Police says a heated argument over video games sent one man to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Spokesperson Dean Lambert says 32-year-old Patrick Carhee became angry with 21-year-old Edward Glynn while they were playing the XBOX and slapped him. He says Glynn then punched Carhee and the situation escalated with Carhee unsuccessfully trying to hit Glynn with a hammer…:

He says Carhee then got a gun and shot Glynn in the hand. Carhee is charged with multiple offenses, including attempted second degree murder.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder suicide in which a man is believed to have shot three brothers before shooting himself in Central. Spokesperson Casey Hicks says 60-year-old Rodney Chemin (KEY-men) allegedly got into a fight with the brothers at a neighbor’s house over music. She says the four left then the neighbor heard gunshots and found them all dead in Chemin’s driveway:

The Many Police Department says a man is under arrest on second degree murder charges for allegedly shooting his friend in the thumb when the two were fighting over a video game. They say the 21-year-old victim, Edward Glynn, and 32-year-old Patrick Carhee were on the computer when the suspect became livid over the game. Apparently Glynn slapped Carhee, cut him with a knife and tried to hit him with a hammer before shooting him in the hand. The investigation is ongoing.

State Treasurer John Kennedy proposes the implementation of the aggressive “stop, question and frisk” program in the New Orleans area as a way to curb crime in the city. He says it’s perfectly legal and allows police officers to frisk a person for a weapon without probable cause…:

He says he realizes this is a controversial plan, but we should be empowering our police officers and not undermining them.

The Powerball jackpot is getting on up there again. There was no big winner Saturday and now the current estimated jackpot on the multi-state game is $185 million dollars for Wednesday’s drawing.

The SEC and the ACC announced today that the September 26th non-conference road game between LSU and Syracuse will kick off at 11am. It will be televised either on ABC or ESPN according to league offices. This will be the Tigers first visit to the Carrier Dome for a football game and just the third meeting between the teams.

Another Confederate monuments hearing is set to take place in New Orleans this evening at the meeting of the Mid City Neighborhood. Mayor Mich Landrieu wants four structures declared a nuisance and removed from public view. Senator David Vitter’s gubernatorial campaign continues to criticize Landrieu over the issue saying the mayor should be more focused on crime in New Orleans. ULM Political Science professor Joshua Stockley says positioning Landrieu as an opponent, even if he’s not running for governor, will help Vitter with conservatives across the state.

Due to his low polling numbers, Governor Bobby Jindal once again will not be on stage with the big guys this Wednesday for the second round of nationally televised GOP debates. Jindal will be among four candidates who will debate at 5pm on CNN before the 10 leading Republican presidential candidates take the stage at 7pm.

It looked like the Saints were on the verge of pulling off a come from behind win on the road, but a couple of fourth quarter touchdowns by the Cardinals resulted in a 31-19 loss for New Orleans. The Saints played several rookies and first-time starters. Rookie linebacker Hau-oli Kikaha forced a fumble and receiver Willie Snead made his NFL debut by reeling in a 63-yard pass from quarterback Drew Brees that led to one of four field goals by new kicker Dustin Hocker. The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a weekend mobile home fire in Bossier Parish has claimed the life of a Princeton woman. Authorities say after firefighters responded to the fire, they found the body of 55-year-old Sherry Cooper in a bedroom of the home. The fire is suspected to have started in that bedroom. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

State Police say a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Jefferson Davis Parish has claimed the life of a Lake Charles man. They say, for unknown reasons, a motorcycle driven by 38-year-old Jared Daigle traveled off the roadway and struck a culvert, ejecting Daigle from the vehicle. Daigle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe impairment to be a factor in the crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
