10:30 Newscast Updated to reflect LSU/USC game move

South Carolina has announced that their LSU home game will in fact be played in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The time and TV is to be announced. LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says this will be treated like a scheduled home game as much as possible with season ticket holders getting first dibs:

South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier said during the SEC coaches teleconference this morning that they wanted to do whatever is best for their community when it comes to where the game will be played.

We should finally know for sure today whether or not the LSU South Carolina game will be played in Columbia. LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says if they are asked to host the game in Tiger Stadium, it will be ready to go. He says if that happens, it will be treated like a regularly scheduled home game as much as possible with season ticket holders getting first dibs:

The comments were made on WWL Radio in New Orleans. South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier said during the SEC coaches teleconference this morning that they want to do whatever is best for their community when it comes to where the game will be held. He added that he’s been told they will know something by this afternoon. LSU Coach Les Miles said he is not getting involved in where the game will be played. He said it’s South Carolina’s home game and they will support them in any way.

Bossier City Police say a man arrested on a cruelty to a juvenile charge after critically injuring his infant daughter now faces a murder charge. Authorities allege that 27-year-old Sean Christopher Morton injured his 3-month-old while trying to get the baby to stop crying. Hospital officials say the child suffered injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The infant died. Morton now faces a charge of second degree murder.

State Police say a head-on collision on I-55 near Hammond has claimed the life of one. They say 53-year-old Donna James of Macon, Mississippi was traveling the wrong way on the interstate when she collided head-on with a pickup truck. James, who was not restrained, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The crash investigation is ongoing.
October, November and December are the peak months where drivers are most likely to collide with deer because of mating and hunting season. State Farm Spokesperson Roszell Gadson advises drivers to always pay attention while on the road and limit distractions while driving…

Massive flooding in the Columbia, South Carolina, area may result in the relocation of the game and Tiger Stadium is one option under consideration. Bonnette says the logistical issues are greater, if the game is played at a neutral site…

The Saints have reportedly signed punter Brandon Fields to the squad. Fields was the Dolphins punter for eight seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2013. He was cut earlier this year after losing to rookie Matt Darr in a training camp battle. Fields is needed on the Saints roster, because Thomas Morestead has an injured groin.

This morning, the ULM football team will attend the memorial service for quarterback Daniel Fitzwater who died on Saturday at the age of 20. Warhawks Football Coach Todd Berry says Fitzwater was a great young man and teammate. He says it was very emotional to tell the players about his unexpected death prior to their homecoming game…

The memorial services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Shreveport. Berry says an autopsy later this week will determine the cause of Fitzwater’s death.

Dallas Keuchel threw six scoreless innings last night as the Houston Astros won the American League Wild Card game after shutting out the New York Yankees 3-0. Keuchel held the Bronx Bombers to just three hits and struck out seven. This was the Astros’ first post-season victory since the 2005 National League Championship Series. Houston will face Kansas City in the best-of-five American League Division Series beginning Thursday.
