LSU athletic director Joe Alleva is set to get a one-year contract extension. The LSU Board of Supervisors will vote next Friday whether to extend his seal through June 30, 2020. According to university documents, Alleva’s base salary of 525-thousand dollars will stay the same.

LSU is not the only big college football game on Saturday….Louisiana Tech looks to pull off the upset as they visit Mississippi State. In the Southland Conference…McNeese State and Central Arkansas face off against each other. Both teams are undefeated in Southland Conference play. And Grambling State will battle Alcorn State in a match-up of two teams undefeated in the SWAC. Southern and Southeastern Louisiana celebrate homecoming this weekend.

A burn ban is in place throughout the entire state. This means no private open burning is allowed. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says Violation of the burn ban could result in criminal and/or civil penalties. He says this is a safety issue…:

Private burning will only be allowed by permission of your local fire department or local government.

Most of the state is in extreme drought conditions and there is no rain the long range forecast which is another reason why the burn ban was issued. But State climatologist Barry Keim says it’s going to be a beautiful weekend with daytime highs not leaving the 70s, and lows in the 50s maybe upper 40s. He says if you’re hitting a football game it might be a good idea to bundle up..:

Tomorrow is the last day to early vote for the October 24th primary. The Secretary of State’s office says so far based on early voting trends, turnout for the gubernatorial election could be 45-50% which they say is about average. The early voting polls close at 6pm.

During the debate at Louisiana Tech last night. The four candidates talked about the state’s budget problems. Republican David Vitter blamed the mess on his opponents, but fellow GOP candidate Scott Angelle says the US Senator shouldn’t be in charge of getting Louisiana’s fiscal house in order…:

The report further states that the governor has only $261,000 on hand. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says this report is not good news for Jindal…

Jindal’s $579,000 fundraising total pales in comparison to efforts by other Republican presidential hopefuls, like Ben Carson whose campaign raised over $20 million during the same time frame. What a performance by the Saints last night as they took it to their NFC South Rival and handed Atlanta its first loss. Quarterback Drew Brees threw for over 300 yards for the 90th time in his career, running back Mark Ingram had two touchdown runs and the defense forced three turnovers in the Saints 31-21 victory. But the play of the game was Michael Mauti’s block punt for a touchdown that gave the Saints a 14-0 lead…

In high school football tonight, there are some big games in Class 3-A. Lutcher visits St. James as these parish rivals meet for the first time since 2004, U-High hosts Parkview in a rematch of last year’s Division Two state title game, which was won by U-High.

After playing in front of a half-full stadium last week, there will be over 100-thousand screaming fans inside Tiger Stadium on Saturday for the top ten match-up between LSU and Florida. Tigers running back Leonard Fournette says he’s looking forward to it….

LSU is a seven-point favorite. The other big game in the SEC is in College Station as Texas A-and-M hosts Alabama. The Crimson Tide thrashed the Aggies 59 to 0 last year.

Mississippi State will host Louisiana Tech at 11 AM tomorrow. These two teams last met in 2011 and State won in overtime 26-20.

1-and-4 ULM will host Appalachian State on Saturday at six PM. These two teams played a nail bitter last year and it was won by the Mountaineers with a last minute field goal.

In the NBA…the Pelicans next preseason game is tomorrow night in Lexington, Kentucky as New Orleans will face Sacramento.

A new LSU Public Policy Research Lab survey shows several gubernatorial candidates have higher name recognition compared to the spring and summer. Dr. Michael Henderson says Republican Scott Angelle and Democrat John Bel Edwards have made the most gains in name recognition. He says with name recognition, comes changes on how voters feel about the candidates.

The poll also shows about 40 percent of voters are now following election news.

Leonard Fournette and the LSU Tigers face eighth ranked Florida Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. Last year, Fournette rushed for, at that time, a career-high 140 yards as the Tigers beat the Gators 30-27. The Heisman Trophy candidate expects another tight contest in Death Valley…

The Jindal campaign spent more than $800,000 during the quarter, with most of that going to payroll, media, and campaign consulting.
