The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state set an employment record in September, but the oil and gas job losses continue at a rapid pace. 2500 non-farm jobs were added between the same time last year according to LWC Executive Director Curt Eysink. He says we’ve seen about 60 months straight now of growth year over year, however it’s not all good news…

With Halloween only ten days away, many children and adults are running to stores to try and get the best costume. Danielle Hebert, with Party City in Slidell, says women are leaning toward the scary side for a costume this Halloween.

The American Cancer Society has changed the guidelines to starting breast cancer screenings at the age of 45. Dean Emeritus at the LSU School of Public Health in New Orleans, Dr. Elizabeth Fontham, says they weighed the pros and the cons when it came to younger women getting mammograms and came to the conclusion that the age should be changed from 40-years-old…

Fontham says your risk for breast cancer goes up as you age, but women 55 and over can now be screened every other year.

Eysink says despite over the year gains, the mining and logging sector, which includes oil and gas, lost 1200 jobs in September and 8,800 over the 12 month period. He says the longer the price of oil stays low, the more it’s going to affect employment in that category…:

Manager of the Costume Shop of West Monroe Renata Herren says both men and women have been very interested in superhero costumes. She says every year one theme from years back will come back and become a big hit

Herren says young girls have ditched the typical princess costume and moved toward the new cartoon, Monster High characters. She says everyone in the costume business is excited Halloween falls on a Saturday this year.

The American Cancer Society has changed the guidelines to starting breast cancer screenings at the age of 45. Baton Rouge authorities are investigating a case where a 15-year-old girl spent a night in a wooded area bound and gagged. Corporal L’ Jean McKneely says a person walking near the St. James Baptist Church spotted the girl

McKneely says the girl was taken to a local hospital. He says they know more than one person is responsible for this crime…

The Hammond Police Department says a Baton Rouge couple found dead at a truck stop near I-12 was strangled and kidnapped from their home. The victims have been identified as Denis and Suzanne Duplantier. Baton Rouge Police Corporal L Jean McKneely say they did a welfare check at the victims’ home and discovered them and a vehicle missing. McKneely says they used OnStar to locate the vehicle in Hammond…

Authorities say more than one suspect is likely involved and they believe the couple was taken from their home on Sunday.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office says Saints Assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt was injured while chasing two car burglars in his Metairie neighborhood. The incident happened in the early morning hours of Saturday. The Saints told a New Orleans TV station that Vitt broke a bone in his wrist and tore hsi Achilles. The suspects got away.

State Police say a 17-year-old from Alexandria lost her life today in a single vehicle wreck in Rapides Parish. Troopers says Bree Ducote lost control of her pick-up truck and ended up colliding with two trees. She was not wearing a seat belt.

And Lake Charles Police are looking for a green SUV that was involved in break-in early this morning that resulted in a three-year-old getting shot. The child is in stable condition, the two suspects are still on the run.

The Lake Charles Police Department is looking for a vehicle of interest in the case of the home invasion early this morning where a three year old child was shot. The homeowner told cops two burglars were beating him with a gun when it went off striking the child, then fled in a green 2000-2006 Chevy Suburban. The child is expected to survive. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact authorities.

A Port Allen man who set up a plot to try to have an elderly couple killed will spend 10 years behind bars. Prosecutor Tony Clayton says 38-year-old Tommy Gioele hired someone to murder Manuel Persica and his wife Camellia over a sour business deal. He says the man who was hired had no intention of killing the couple and credits State Police with nabbing Gioele…:

He says after prison Gioele will have to wear an ankle bracelet and ordered to stay away from the Persicas.

State Police say a single vehicle crash in Rapides Parish has claimed the life of an Alexandria teenager who was not wearing her seat belt. They say 17-year-old Bree Ducote lost control of her truck earlier this morning, collided with a mailbox then crashed into two trees. She was not restrained, was ejected and pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Baton Rouge Police Department is looking for three men after they say a 15-year-old girl was found bound and gagged in a drainage canal this afternoon. They say the girl had been tied up in the woods since last night.

The Lake Charles Police Department says a 3-year-old child was shot during a suspected home invasion early this morning. They say the homeowner reported he told two burglars that he didn’t have any money and that’s when they began beating him with a gun that discharged and struck the toddler. Deputy Chief Mark Kraus says this crime will not go unpunished…:

Saints Assistant coach Joe Vitt was injured when trying to stop people from breaking into vehicles in his Metairie neighborhood according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office confirms that New Orleans Saints Assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt was injured over the weekend while chasing two people who were trying to steal cars in his Metairie neighborhood. They say Vitt saw a woman in his front lawn trying to break into a neighbor’s car then he saw a man in his own car. While chasing them, cops say Vitt fell and was injured. Sources say he broke his ankle and arm in the fall.

After Saturday night’s primary election, at least 77-percent of the state House and Senate races will be decided. LaPolitics-dot-com Publisher Jeremy Alford says that’s based on the number of lawmakers running without opposition and the number of legislative races involving just two candidates. Alford says an unusually large number of legislators ran unopposed this election…

A Port Allen man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot against an elderly Pointe Coupee couple. Prosecutor Tony Clayton says 38-year-old Tommy Lee Gioele hired someone to kill the Persicas after a business deal went wrong. He says Giolele is serving 10 years of a 20 year sentence and will be required to wear an ankle bracelet for five years after being released.

Clayton says the man Gioele hired to kill the couple had no intention of committing the murder and fully cooperated with authorities throughout the investigation. He credits the capture of Gioele to Louisiana State Police.

McKneely says BRPD is searching the victims’ home for any evidence that will help authorities identify and capture the suspects. A 3-year-old was shot during a home invasion in Lake Charles this morning. Deputy Chief Mark Kraus says two armed men entered the house demanding money. He says when the victim said he didn’t have any, a suspect began pistol whipping the man holding his child when the gun discharged and hit the child.

Kraus says the two suspects fled the scene in a dark colored pickup truck. He says he wants to put people at ease by explaining this doesn’t tend to happen to the ordinary person but crimes like these are usually connected to some other type of criminal activity.

Kraus says the child was transported to an out of town hospital and both victims are expected to live. He says once they catch these suspects, he hopes a judge will put these people in prison for the longest time possible.

Police are investigating the case of a man and a woman reported missing from Baton Rouge, that were found dead inside their vehicle in Hammond. BRPD Corporal L Jean McKneely says they were conducting a welfare check at the couple’s residence and discovered the door wide open and a vehicle gone. He says GPS lead them to the vehicle in Hammond where the two were found dead. This is a developing story.

Baton Rouge and Hammond Police are investigating the discovery of two bodies found at a truck stop near I-12 in Hammond. Eric Gill reports..:

The Lake Charles Police Department is trying to figure out what happened in a purported home invasion where a three year old child was shot. Cops say the homeowner told them two men broke into his house demanding money and beating him with a gun when the weapon went off and struck the toddler. The suspects are described as two black males who fled in a dark-colored pickup truck. The child is in the hospital for treatment. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact authorities.

Prosecutor Tony Clayton says 38-year-old Tommy Gioele (Gee-Oh-Lee) hired someone to kill Manuel Persica and his wife Camellia after a bitter business feud. Gioele will also have to wear an ankle bracelet for half a decade so the Persicas feel safe…:

Gas prices are below $2 again after a brief jump. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $1.99 down four cents from last week according to AAA.
