A West Monroe man who was expected in court Wednesday, reportedly attempted suicide in the bathroom of a gas station that morning. Cops say a family was with the man shot himself in the head. Authorities are not identifying him at this time and his condition is currently not known.

Hundreds of new jobs are coming to the Port of Iberia as a result of two large companies who have announced plans to begin projects at the port. President of the Iberia Industrial Development Foundation Mike Tarintino says businesses are realizing how much Iberia Parish has to offer…:

Tarintino says Primoris Services Corp. and Dynamic Industries are now seeking about 600 new employees to get started.

In the latest AP Top 25 poll, LSU is ranked fifth and the college football playoff selection committee only picks four teams to play for the national championship. CBS-sports-dot-com College football analyst, Jerry Palm, says two of the teams ahead of LSU, TCU and Baylor, will play each other on November 27th and the other two teams ahead of LSU are also not guaranteed of an undefeated season…:

The Tigers take on Western Kentucky in Death Valley this weekend.

The Orlando Magic beat the New Orleans Pelicans 110-107 in overtime last night. Anthony Davis had 33 points and 16 rebounds for New Orleans while Nate Robinson had 18 points. The Pels host Miami on Friday.

He still believes it will be a David Vitter/John Bel Edwards runoff…but wouldn’t be shocked if Scott Angelle edged Vitter.

More information is coming out about the disturbing incident in which cops say a Baton Rouge couple was kidnapped and strangled allegedly at the hands of a man who worked for them and robbed their safe. Authorities arrested 42-year-old Ernesto Alonso in the deaths of 71-year-old Denis “Bubby” Duplantier and 70-year-old Suzy Duplantier. Investigators believe the suspect bound the victims at their home and beat them until they let him into their safe. They were then killed and bodies dumped in Hammond.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says the K-9 Thor who was attacked and stabbed during a pursuit of a burglary suspect, is in recovery and doing well. Sheriff Jack Strain says they are hopeful Thor can return to work sooner than later, but they are taking it day by day starting with when doctors remove the drain tube from the surgery site:

Deputies opened fire on the suspect who was stabbing Thor and the man was pronounced dead.

Gas priced dipped another penny overnight. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $1.98 according to AAA.

Stockley says recent polls have suggested that many people remain undecided on who they want to vote for governor, and at this point that typically means they won’t show up to the polls. He feels the long time trend showing Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter making the runoff, still stands firm…:

Stockley says if there is going to be a surprise on election day, he wouldn’t be shocked if Republican Scott Angelle overtook Vitter for second place and made it to the November 21st runoff with Edwards. He believes the fact that Angelle hit the airwaves before Republican Jay Dardenne worked in his favor…:

Strain says Greenwood was wielding a 4-6 inch switch blade and had it not been for Thor intervening, they believe the suspect could have stabbed and killed the deputy. He says the way Thor put his own life on the line for his partner, is an incredible situation…:

A federal judge has issued her final ruling in Governor Bobby Jindal’s lawsuit that takes aim at the Common Core education standards. The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles has sent out over one million letters to residents and former residents, warning them that a collections agency might be used to collect fines for allowing their auto insurance lapse. One person has been arrested in the double murder and abduction of an elderly Baton Rouge couple. The victims, Denis and Suzanne Duplantier, were found strangled to death in their vehicle at a truck stop in Hammond. Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie says 42-year-old Ernesto Alonso was arrested in Miami, Florida on several charges…:

Authorities say Alonso did odd jobs around the couple’s home. The arrest warrant says that a large amount of cash was missing from the victims’ home and that they were beaten.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain says one of their K-9’s, “Thor” is recovering from surgery today after he was stabbed by a burglary suspect. His doctors say Thor lost a lot of blood and it’s too soon to say whether he’ll be able to return to full time duty. Thor and deputies were chasing after two suspects in the Mandeville area yesterday. One of the suspects was shot and killed by police after he stabbed Thor.

The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Baton Rouge couple found dead at a truck stop in Hammond. Authorities say Denis and Suzanne Duplantier had been kidnapped and strangled. Police Spokesperson Lt. Johnny Dunham says they are unsure where the murders took place and are searching for others who could be involved…:

There’s a report out indicating a large amount of money had been taken from the Duplantier’s home. Ernesto Alonso is charged with two counts each of first degree murder and second degree kidnapping.

Junior LSU defensive end Lewis Neal is having a breakout season for the 5th ranked LSU Tigers. Neal has seven sacks and 30 tackles this season. In his first two seasons, he only had 10 tackles and zero sacks. Neal says first-year defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has been a big help this season. The New Orleans Pelicans take on the Magic tonight in Orlando in another preseason game. It’s been a painful preseason for the Pels, who have seen several players go down with injuries. The latest is guard Tyreke Evans, who had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and a timetable for his return will be announced later. Evans averaged 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds a game last season. Norris Cole, Omer Asik, Alexis Ajinca, Luke Babbit and Quincy Pondexter are also out as a result of injuries.

In college basketball….LSU’s Ben Simmons was named preseason player of the year in the SEC today. The Tigers are picked to finish fourth in the league. And U-L Lafayette’s Shawn Long has been named the Sun Belt preseason player of the year. The Cajuns are also picked to finish first in the Sun Belt, while ULM is expected to finish in third place.

And LSU coach Johnny Jones doesn’t expect freshman Antonio Blakeney to miss any games, even though is name surfaced in a report about an alleged recruit-sex scandal at Louisville.

Deputies shot the suspect dead when he began stabbing the K-9 and the matter is under investigation.

State Police says the Office of Motor Vehicles has sent out over a million letters to drivers who have not renewed their car insurance indicating that they will be turned into collections if they don’t pay the $525 fine.
