Despite finishing second in the primary, Republican US Senator David Vitter says he will be elected as the state’s next governor on November 21st. Vitter believes voters will choose him over Democrat John Bel Edwards, because Edwards does not represent the values Louisiana is seeking…:

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning is lifting the statewide burn ban. Much of the state saw several inches of rain over the weekend. In Tangipahoa Parish, about 50 people had to be rescued from a trailer park because of flooding.

The Governor’s race is not the only statewide race heading to a runoff next month. Democrat Kip Holden narrowly came out on top in the Lt. Governor primary over Republican Billy Nungesser. But political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says signs point to Nungesser winning the runoff:

A Farmerville woman has been arrested in the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy from Lincoln Parish. The child was found safe Sunday night in Ouachita Parish, while 23-year-old Sommer Hattaway was arrested this morning. Ruston Police deputy chief Clint Williams says the boy’s mother reported her son was in her vehicle asleep at a motel when a woman she was in the room with stole it…

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says due to the large amount of rain that hit Louisiana over the last several days, the statewide burn ban officially lifts at 6pm. State Climatologist Barry Keim says there are still some areas in north Louisiana that are slightly in drought, but with more wet weather on the horizon, that could possibly knock out Louisiana’s drought…:

Keim says the vast majority of Louisiana received 5 inches of rain or more and the wettest spot was recorded at LSU in Baton Rouge which got 10.5 inches of rain.

Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office this morning had to rescue 20 children from a school bus that stalled in a floodd roadway according to the department’s Facebook page. The bus got stuck on a flooded bridge in the northern part of the parish. LDWF said they had to rescue 23 people and a dog today from a flooded trailer park in Tangipahoa Parish.

The Governor’s race is not the only statewide race heading to a runoff next month. The state’s next Lt. Governor and Attorney General will also be decided November 21st. For AG, incumbent Buddy Caldwell is in a tight race with fellow Republican Jeff Landry. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Landry has his work cut out for him to unseat the incumbent…:

He expects Landry to identify Caldwell as the “Democrat” in this race in order to secure a majority of the Republican vote. In the Lt. Governor’s Race, Democrat Kip Holden is taking on Republican Billy Nungesser.

In the latest A-P Top 25 poll, LSU is ranked fourth and they received five first place votes. Ohio State is number one, Baylor is second and Clemson is ranked third. The Tigers next opponent, Alabama, is ranked seventh and they received one first place vote. The SEC announced today that the LSU-Alabama game will kickoff at 7 PM on November 7th. It will be televised by CBS.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says agents rescued 23 people from a flooded trailer park in Tangipahoa Parish this morning. Our state got dumped with rain last night and some areas even recorded 10 inches according to forecasters. LDWF says the residents said the water was coming into trailers while they were sleeping this morning and agents then went to the scene with a boat rescued 23 people and a dog.

The Ruston Police Department says the woman who is accused of kidnapping a child in a stolen car last night has been arrested and the 8-year-old is now safe. Ruston PD Deputy Chief Clint Williams says the child’s mother reported 23-year-old Sommer Hattaway took her car while her son was in there sleeping. The child and Hattaway were located in Ouachita Parish and Williams says they are still working to determine why this happened…:

Hattaway is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and kidnapping.

Republican candidate for governor David Vitter has written a letter to State Police Col Mike Edmonson letting him know he won’t be needing personal security detail during the runoff. Vitter suggested that the four professionals instead be sent to other locations in the state. In the letter, the US Senator says if he’s elected governor the Protective Services Division will be reduced in size. He’s in the runoff with Democrat John Bel Edwards on November 21st.

Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards are hot on the campaign trial before the runoff. The US Senator received criticism for dodging debates prior to the primary. But Vitter says he welcomes the opportunity for multiple debates before the runoff…:

It was an extremely wet weekend in Louisiana. State Climatologist Barry Keim says most of the state got 5 inches of rain or more and the wettest spot was in Baton Rouge at LSU which recorded 10.5 inches. He says there is some good news as 86 percent of Louisiana was in drought last week and now there could be a 1 to 2 category improvement following the rain…:

He says it looks like we’ll be getting more rain this weekend which should further eliminate the drought.

The hype is already building for the November 7th matchup between No. 4 LSU and No. 7 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The SEC announced today that the game will kickoff at 7pm and be televised on CBS. Both teams are off this week, so the hype leading up to the Contest between the Tigers and Crimson Tide has plenty of time to build up ahead of this top-10 marquee matchup.

Vitter’s campaign announced Monday that he would not be taking state police personal security detail which is offered during the gubernatorial run-off. An arrest has been made in the bizarre case of the 8-year-old child who was abducted from Linicon Parish last night, causing Amber Alerts to be heard throughout the state. The Ruston Police Department says 23-year-old Sommer Hattaway is charged with kidnapping and theft of a vehicle. Deputy Chief Clint Williams says Dakota Johnson was found safe last night by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, then the began to search for Hattaway:
