Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter went toe to toe during an hour long debate Monday at the Baton Rouge Press Club. The two candidates for governor made the case on why they should be elected November 21st. Edwards says if elected, he will govern in a way that is bi-partisan and that reaches out to everyone across the state.

Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse, Jr. are accused of shooting and killing Jeremy Mardis following a police chase. Marksville state Representative Robert Johnson says he’s looking to determine under what authority the city marshal acts…

The new CFP rankings come out tonight and Jerry Palm with CBSsports.com believes there’s still a chance that LSU will be one of four teams to make it to the College Football Playoff, even after the loss to Alabama. He says having one loss doesn’t automatically mean you don’t make the playoffs and he doesn’t think that all of the teams will be undefeated anyway…:

In his 30 second spot Vitter says he failed his family but found forgiveness and love. Meanwhile, his Democratic opponent John Bel Edwards, has a spot running that says Vitter answered a prostitute’s call instead of voting on legislation for fallen soldiers. Edwards stands by the facts in the commercial.

Bond for the two men arrested in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis has been set at $1 million each. Norris Greenhouse, Jr. and Derrick Stafford are charged with second degree murder in the child’s death. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says charges against the men could rise to first degree murder or fall to negligent homicide depending on what the grand jury decides…

Execution is the reason why the Saints lost to the lowly Tennessee Titans in overtime yesterday. New Orleans had a chance to win the game in the final minute of regulation, but Kai Forbath’s field goal was blocked. Coach Sean Payton says that’s just one of the many reasons why they lost…

Once again Governor Bobby Jindal is not invited to take part in a main nationally televised Republican Presidential debate. It’s the fourth time Jindal is set, instead, to appear in the under-card forum — it’ll be tomorrow night at 6pm on the Fox Business Network. The two hour prime-time debate is set for 8pm. Jindal will share the stage with Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, of Pennsylvania.

The city of Hammond says its police chief, Roddy Devall, has been removed from his position as the result of a pending disciplinary matter. A letter cited the reasons for the firing were over civil service violations in a dispute over how the police department handled an officer’s arrest.

Durel says The Grand on Johnston Street is in a highly trafficked area that people pass by everyday, so it will be a huge sense of relief to see it open again.

The Associated Press is reporting that the lawyer for the man who was gunned down allegedly by Marksville City Marshals when his 6-year-old child was killed, had his hands up and posed no threat. The report indicates the lawyer says the body cam evidence shows it. Bond was set at one million dollars for both Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse Jr. on changes of second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

Governor Bobby Jindal once again fell short of making the main stage for Tuesday’s Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jindal will join New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum in a one hour 2nd tier debate that will air at 6pm on the Fox Business Network. This is the fourth televised debate among Republican presidential hopefuls and the fourth time Jindal has failed to qualify for the main event.
