The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled Louisiana can keep the final Angola 3 inmate in jail and try him again in the 1972 killing of a prison guard. Legal analyst Tim Meche says even though a US District Judge ruled that Albert Woodfox shouldn’t have to face a third 40 year old trial, the 5th Circuit disagreed. He says trying this case poses many issues…:

Amnesty International contends the convictions of Woodfox are riddled with flaws, and he’s unjustly been held in cruelty for several decades.

New Orleans music icon Allen Toussaint has died. Toussaint was on tour in Europe when he reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack after a performance in Madrid, Spain. The music legend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2009, and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011. Toussaint is survived by his two children and several grandchildren. He was 77-years-old.

In its 7th year, the BCS will showcase Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Eric Chuch, Dierks Bentley, Darius Rucker, Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum just to name a few.

The Council for a Better Louisiana and Louisiana Public Broadcasting are hosting tonight’s televised gubernatorial debate between Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards. CABL President Barry Erwin says they hope to make this feel more like a real debate with more back and forth between the candidates…:

The two candidates for Governor in the November 21st runoff will face off in a debate hosted by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Council for a Better Louisiana tonight. The debate between Republican David Vitter and Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards begins at 7PM and will be televised statewide on LPB stations.

Marksville state Representative Robert Johnson doesn’t believe that to be the case…

Jerry Palm with CBSsports-dot-com believes there’s still a chance that LSU will be one of four teams to make it to the College Football Playoff, even after the loss to Alabama. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned the release of Angola 3 inmate Albert Woodfox and rules that plans to try him for a third time for the 1972 murder of a prison guard can continue. The appellant court says US District Judge James Brady abused his discretion in his June order to immediately release Woodfox and barring a third trial. Both of Woodfox’s convictions in the murder of Brent Miller have been overturned.

Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon is named the Lousiana Sports Writers Association’s Offensive Player of the Week. Dixon set a Conference USA record rushing for six touchdowns in the Bulldog’s 56-13 win over North Texas. Nicholls State’s Ahmaini Martin was named LSWA’s Defensive Player of the Week. Martin had 10 tackles and an interception in the Colonels win over Lamar last Saturday.

The New Orleans Saints have signed former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn to the roster. Flynn will step in and replace Luke McCown as the back up to starting quarterback Drew Brees. McCown injured his back last week and was placed on the injured reserve list to open a roster spot for Flynn. McCown is expected to have surgery on his back today, which will end his season.

The Pelicans are still looking for win number one this season. They’re hoping to get it tonight against the Mavericks at the Smoothie King Center.
