Louisiana State Police arrest an “on-duty” Shreveport firefighter after he allegedly tried to meet with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl and her mother to have a sexual encounter with both. But Republican David Vitter, who supports charter schools without reservation, says limiting the opportunity to districts with low letter grades, would alienate thousands of students who happen to be in high a performing district…:

One of the Marksville officers involved in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy and injuring of his father, is reportedly set to be released on a million dollars bond tomorrow. Apparently 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr.s’ dad is securing property to come up with the bond. Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford are each charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

You’ve probably noticed we’re dealing with a major mosquito problem in Louisiana right now, even this far into November. Colby Colona, President of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association, says blame the weather..:

During the LBP debate last night, things got heated toward the end with Democrat John Bel Edwards calling Republican opponent David Vitter a liar and a cheater, and Vitter accusing the West Point graduate of not living by the Honor Code. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan doesn’t feel there was a “winner” of the debate, but this bickering will continue..:

The two candidates for governor touched on several key policy issues during last night’s televised LPB debate. They are split on many matters including the direction they believe healthcare should be headed in the state. Democrat John Bel Edwards says he would immediately expand the traditional Medicaid program as governor, and it should have already been done…:

But Vitter says that would cripple the state financially and the US Senator would only consider Medicaid expansion on Louisiana’s terms.

Voters finally seem to be paying more attention to this race as Secretary of State Tom Schedler says early voting numbers for the November 21st runoff are higher than they were for the primary. Polls are closed today in observance of Veterans Day, but will reopen tomorrow morning between 8:30-6 through Saturday.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead and another is behind bars after a fight escalated between the two over a dog. They believe the suspect, 38-year-old Danny Breaux of Raceland, arranged to buy the dog from 39-year-old Duong Tran, but ended up not paying for it. Cops say during a fight over the matter, Breaux beat Tran to death in a street. He will be booked on a charge of second-degree murder.

There are an unusual high number of mosquitoes buzzing around for this time of year. Colby Colona, President of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association, says warm temperatures and heavy rain events can trigger dormant mosquito eggs to hatch and that’s what’s been happening. But Edwards says if Medicaid had already been expanded in Louisiana, it would have saved $52 million dollars this year alone. Vitter says he’d expand Medicaid but only under Louisiana’s terms.

Shreveport Police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man dead. They say the incident happened just before 1AM and when officers arrived they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds outside a local motel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities believe the victim and suspect were involved in some kind of dispute. The name of the deceased has not been released.
