A Denham Springs man charged with murder in the death of his fiance who he shot up with a lethal dose of heroin was found guilty and will spend life behind bars. In 2013, 26-year-old Jarret McCasland administered a needle with the drugs into 19-year-old Flavia Cardenas and she died of an overdose. Authorities say a Shreveport Police officer who was fired in October is under arrest for allegedly threatening SPD administrative personnel and others he believed were responsible for his termination. 45-year-old James Paul Creighton was questioned by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and arrested Thursday charged with threatening public officials.

With the Thanksgiving holiday right around the corner, The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission kicks off their Click it or Ticket campaign this Sunday. State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt says make sure you buckle up, because it’s the first step in saving your life in case you’re in an accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of fatal injury to front seat passengers by 45-percent. Reichardt says the campaign runs from November 22 until the 29th. He says if you don’t buckle up, it could turn your happy holiday into a nightmare.

Reichardt says in addition to checking for seatbelt violations, troopers will also be on the lookout for motorists drinking and driving.

A 26-year-old Denham Springs man will spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting up his fiancee with heroin, causing a fatal overdose. An East Baton Rouge Parish jury found Jarret McCasland guilty of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence. District Attorney Hillar Moore says a seldom used statue was used in his case

McCasland, who did not take the stand in his defense, will face formal sentencing in January for the death of 19-year-old Flavia Cardenas. Moore says the evidence against McCasland was overwhelming and a verdict came quickly…

LSU and Ole Miss resume their football rivalry on Saturday afternoon in Oxford. It’s the 104th meeting alltime between the SEC West rivals. The last three games have been decided by six points or less. Last year, the Tigers beat the Rebels 10-7 and LSU’s fans stormed the field afterwards. This is a big game for Les Miles as media reports say he’s coaching for his job.

If the UL Lafayette football team wants to play in a bowl game for a fifth straight season, they’ll need to win two of its next three games to get to six wins on the year. Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says they have yet to play up to their expectations this season, but hopes that starts on Saturday at home against New Mexico State….

Last night in college football…Nicholls State rallied to beat Southeastern Louisiana 27-24. And Texas State beat ULM 16-3.

The high school football playoffs continue tonight…In Class 4A…top seeded Neville hosts 16th seeded Carencro…9th seeded North DeSoto is at Loranger…11th seeded Bastrop visits Assumption. Also…7th seeded Minden hosts 10th seeded Franklinton, 4th seeded Benton hosts McDonogh 35 and 2nd seeded Crowey is at Livonia.

In Division three…two-time defending champ. Calvary Baptist is at third seeded Notre Dame, who has one of the top defenses in the state.

In college basketball last night….LSU’s Ben Simmons had 23 points and 16 rebounds last night as the Tigers topped South Alabama 78-66. ULM beat Northwestern State 80-64. That’s win number 200 for Warhawks coach Keith Richard.

Tonight…the Ragin Cajuns are at Alabama. Both teams are 1-and-1. McNeese State is at 8th ranked Oklahoma. And the Pelicans, who 1-and-11, host the 9-and-2 San Antonio Spurs.

A recent report shows Governor Bobby Jindal is the second least popular governor in the nation. Morning Consult set out to get all governors’ approval ratings and found just 35 percent of Louisianans polled approve of Jindal’s job performance and 60 percent disapprove. Only Kansas Governor Sam Brownback was viewed less favorably than Jindal.

The famous City of Natchitoches Christmas lights will be lit up following the “Turn on the Holidays” event downtown tomorrow. There was a controversy this week regarding the fact that Mayor Lee Posey banned the Confederate battle flag from the their Christmas parade this year. He says a standards of excellence is in place for Natchitoches Christmas events and they remove certain elements from the parade all the time…:

Election day is tomorrow in Louisiana. Polls will be open from 7AM to 8PM. The statewide ballot is highlighted by the gubernatorial runoff between Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says it’s always important to exercise your right to vote and encourages everyone to make time in their schedule tomorrow…

The Lt. Governor and Attorney General races will also be on the ballot, as well as several legislative seats across the state.

An East Baton Rouge Parish jury has convicted a 26-year-old Denham Springs man of second degree murder in the overdose death of his fiancee. Jarret McCasland was found guilty of giving 19-year-old Flavia Gardenas a lethal overdose of heroin in 2013. The jury deliberated about 75 minutes before returning a unanimous verdict. McCasland faces a mandatory life sentence.

A recent report, compiled by Morning Consult, shows that Governor Bobby Jindal is the second least popular governor in the nation. The website surveyed more than 75,000 voters in all 50 states to compile their list. The report shows only 35-percent of Louisiana voters approve of Jindal’s performance. Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is the only governor with a lower approval rating than Jindal, with 26-percent. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker topped the list with a 74-percent approval rating.

Shreveport Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred last night. They say a man an a woman were shot in the incident. Both were rushed to a local hospital where the woman was later pronounced dead. The condition of the man is unknown at this time. Authorities say suspects were seen fleeing the scene moments after the shooting. A search is underway.

Louisiana fishermen have the rare opportunity to catch red snapper in state waters in November and December as a fall red snapper season begins today. Assistant Secretary for the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Randy Pausina, says many recreational anglers are appreciative of the opportunity to catch red snapper during the holidays…

The City of Natchitoches’s “Turn on the Holidays” event officially kicks off their Christmas Festival season tomorrow. Mayor Lee Posey says there will be events in the city every weekend through Christmas and it just gets bigger and bigger every year…

Last night, Texas State topped ULM 16-3. The Warhawks were only able to tally 181 yards in total offense in their first game after Todd Berry was fired as head coach. ULM’s losing streak is now at nine games as the Warhawks fall to 1-10 on the season.

Francisco Condado’s 40-yard field goal with no time remaining lifts Nicholls State to a 27-24 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The Colonels improve to 3-8 on the season and take home the River Bell Classic trophy.

Dixon is just two touchdowns short of setting the NCAA career touchdown mark and 14 points shy of the record for total points scored. Kickoff is at 2:30 and can be seen on Fox Sports Network.
