An arrest warrant has been obtained for the boyfriend of the mother of 16-year-old Jorion White of Kenner — whose body was found in a drainage ditch in St. Charles Parish on April 24th. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office says Daniel Beckley is wanted for second degree murder and obstruction of justice.

South Louisiana is under flash flood watch until seven o’ clock tonight. State Climatologist Barry Keim says much of the state is already water logged after severe storms dumped several inches of rain along the I-10 corridor…:

St. Tammany Parish officials are starting a program called Operation Angel where drug addicts could turn in their drugs and get treatment instead of jail. Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz says chemically dependent people would need to surrender any drugs they have, then they’ll be escorted by an “angel” to walk them through the recovery process at Giving Hope Retreat in Lacombe…:

The state Department of Education announces Louisiana’s high school graduation rate is at an all-time high, as 78-percent of the Class of 2015 received their diplomas. Superintendent John White, says that’s almost a 3-percent increase over the previous year, and is the second largest annual gain in 10 years…:

Louisiana still lags behind the national graduation rate which was 82-percent in 2014.

Officials across the Northshore announced today the beginning of “Operation Angel” – a program whereby a person addicted to drugs can walk into a police station and ask for help instead of being charged with a crime. Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz says it’s time law enforcement changes the way they do business…:

He says the only requirement of Operation Angel is that an addict ask for help and want to change their life.

Beginning in July, CLECO customers can expect to get a $475 credit on their bills because of the Pineville based company’s sale to foreign investors. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says the credit will be applied until it runs out, meaning some customers will not have to pay a utility bill for a couple of months..:

Governor John Bel Edwards says FEMA has denied Louisiana’s appeal for a major disaster declaration after severe storms and tornadoes devastated several communities in late February. He says the agency indicated in decision that the impact from the event is not of the severity and magnitude that warrants a major disaster declaration.

The state Department of Education says Louisiana’s high school graduation rate is at an all time high at 77.5 percent in 2015. They say that’s a 2.9 percent growth from the previous year.

The bottom half of the state remains under a flash flood watch through this evening. The National Weather Service says rainfall amounts of two to four inches is possible in the watch areas, with locally higher amounts possible.

Cleco utility customers can expect a $475 credit on their bills beginning in July, as a result of the Pineville-based company’s sale to foreign investors. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says the Louisiana Public Service Commission created this credit as a part of their transaction…:

Cahill says the credit will be applied until it runs out, meaning some customers will not have to pay a utility bill for a couple of months.

The LSU AgCenter has developed an eye-drop to prevent and treat cataracts. Professor Cristina Sabliov (sab-lee-of) says lutein (loo-teen) is currently prescribed as an oral treatment for cataracts, but she says LSU AgCenter researchers have developed a solution to drop it directly into your eyes…:

The Saints 2016 draft class consists of five players. Fourth round pick, defensive tackle David Onyemata (On-yeh-ma-tah), has the most unique story. He’s the first player ever drafted from the University of Manitoba, which is in Canada. Onyemata grew up in Nigeria and saw a football for a first time five years ago. New Orleans General Manager Mickey Loomis says several clubs were interested in drafting the 6-foot-4, 300-pounder…

The Saints have also signed a bunch of undrafted free-agents, including UL Lafayette linebacker Dominique Tovell, Alabama defensive end DJ Pettway and Ole Miss free safety Trae Elston.

The LSU Tigers are falling in the major college baseball polls after dropping two of three from Ole Miss. Baseball America has the Tigers ranked 13th, D-1 Baseball has the Bayou Bengals ranked 17th. LSU doesn’t play again until Friday, because of finals week. The Tigers will host Arkansas this weekend.

Elsewhere…UL Lafayette is in second place in the Sun Belt after taking two of three from UT-Arlington. Tulane is also in second place in the American Athletic Association. Louisiana Tech is in fifth place in Conference USA, after winning two of three from Texas-San Antonio. Southeastern swept Houston Baptist and is still in first place in the Southland. and Grambling leads the western division of the SWAC.

They played into early Sunday morning in Sulphur to complete the Fastpitch 56 state softball championships. When it was all said and done, Alexandria Senior High won the 5A title, North DeSoto claimed the four-a championships, Kaplan is the three-a champs.

The program will be called “Healthy Louisiana” as the state seeks to improve health outcomes for the poor and uninsured.

The full house is set to vote on a Senate-approved bill this afternoon that would lock the value of the TOPS scholarship at its current price and it would not go up automatically, even if tuition rises. Which means TOPS students would be forced to pay a portion of their tuition.

The governor’s proposed budget calls for a 183-million dollar cut to TOPS, and this is an opportunity for people to make their voice heard. Most of southeast Louisiana is under a flash flood watch until 7pm today. Forecasters say rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches with isolated 6+ are possible, especially south of I-10. This wet weather is hitting already saturated soils which could lead to quick flooding.

A teenager from Rapides Parish was killed in a high speed crash in Rapides Parish. State Police say troopers responded around 12:15 am Sunday and determined that 18-year-old Guillermo Maldonado-Ramos was speeding when he exited the road and smashed into a culvert. He was pronounced dead.

More than 6 inches of rain fell in southwestern Louisiana before dawn Sunday, forcing the closure of Interstate 49 in the morning. More than 9,000 people in the state were without power at one point yesterday as the line of storms moved east, according to Entergy. The weather brought the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival to an early close on Saturday, but many loyal braved the flooded track on Sunday. And today there are still severe thunderstorm and flash watches posted throughout the state as more rain moves in.

Five more LSU Tigers join the ranks of the NFL. Deion Jones was the first former Tiger selected in the 2nd round by the Atlanta Falcons. Jerald Hawkins was the next Tiger off the board in the fourth round to Pittsburgh. Jalen Mills, to Philadelphia and Vadal Alexander, to the Raiders, did not come off the board until the 7th round. San Francisco 49ers select Rashard Robinson in the 4th.

Ninth-ranked Ole Miss got the 8-2 win over No. 8 LSU at Swayze Field Saturday. Ole Miss improved to 33-12 overall and 12-9 in the SEC, while LSU dropped to 28-16 and 11-10.

The 14th-ranked UL-Lafayette baseball team posted a season-high hits and runs on Sunday as the Cajuns defeated UT Arlington 19-6 to claim the series on the road.

Louisiana Tech lost a heart breaker to UTSA in 11 innings, 5-4. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs won the series over the Roadrunners with two wins Saturday.

ULM fell to Georgia Southern 4-1 in the series finale on Sunday.

Nicholls State University and McNeese fought through a seven-hour weather delay and a series finale that spanned multiple days and multiple months as the Colonels complete the three-game sweep. After winning game one, 3-0, on Friday, Nicholls picked up a 6-5 victory over McNeese in game two and a 2-1 win in game three.

The rain that wreaked havoc on the Zurich Classic and Jazzfest had Tulane and Houston hanging around over 5 hours in New Orleans Sunday then the Green Wave eventually got the 10-4 win.

The National Weather Service says radar indicated more than 6 inches of rain feel in parts of Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis Parish, and most of Acadiana over 5 inches. Southeast Louisiana is looking at flash flood watches through 7 tonight where weekend already rain forced The Zuric Classic and Jazzfest to shutdown.

Katherine Dawson, Online Program Coordinator for ULM, says students, faculty, alumni, and others will all email their state legislators between 11:45 am and 12:15 pm at an event called Mission: Maroon.

Dawson says the purpose is not to gripe at lawmakers but to speak up and be heard. AgCenter Department of Biological and Agriculture Engineering Professor Cristina Sabliov says they became interested in developing a solution because cataracts are the leading cause of visual impairment in the United States. She says they found a way to use lutein to prevent the eye lens from becoming cloudy.
