The NBA All-Star game is coming back to New Orleans. The Big Easy replaces Charlotte as the host city for the event. The NBA decided against holding the All-Star game in North Carolina, because of a state law that limits anti-discrimination protections against LGBT individuals. It will be the third time since 2008 that the All-Star game will be held in New Orleans. The game will take place on February 19th, the first weekend of Mardi Gras parades.

Former LSU All-Americans Richard Thompson and Kelly Ann-Baptiste can win medals tonight. They are running in the men’s and women’s 4X100 meter relays. Thompson already has two Olympic Silver medals and he’s running for his native Trinidad and Tobago. Baptiste is also on the Trinidad and Tobago relay team and they finished third in their heat.

The US Men’s basketball team beat Spain today and they advance to Sunday’s gold medal game.

The Saints next preseason game is tomorrow night against Houston. It’s another chance for rookie wide receiver Mike Thomas to impress. New Orleans safety Kenny Vaccarro already likes what he sees from the former Ohio State standout…

Governor John Bel Edwards held a press conference this afternoon to announce that disaster food stamp locations in eight parishes will open on Monday. To pre-register for disaster food stamps, visit the department of children and family services website.

Also, the governor announced that FEMA is offering 30-day hotel stays for people who are living in their car, a hotel or shelter. Edwards says they plan to have four-thousand people in state-run shelters tonight.

The total value of all the homes lost in the flood in the Baton Rouge area could be up to $21 billion. That’s according to the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s preliminary analysis of flood damage, which estimates 31% of homes in the 9 parish region are in flooded areas. BRAC CEO Adam Knapp says the preliminary data demonstrates just how devastating this flood is….

As the state transitions into recovery from the 1,000-year flood, resources and volunteers are more important than ever. Red Cross CEO Gail McGovern says this is the worst natural disaster they have seen in years.

McGovern says at one point 10-thousand people in the state were in shelters, and that is now down to 8-thousand. She says they will be here as long as it takes for this community to recover.

McGovern says the Red Cross has served 100-thousand meals to the people in shelters. She says if anyone wants to volunteer or donate to the Red Cross, they can go to RedCross.org. She says their work is far from over.

Flood victims are at Bass Pro Shop today in Denham Springs to receive water and food, as well as, meet with FEMA representatives to apply for disaster assistance. Terry is a Denham Springs resident whose home was flooded during the storm. He says he lost two trailers and a truck but is lucky he can stay with his daughter….

Ed is also a Denham Springs resident who tried to stay in his home as long as possible during the flooding. He says when he finally decided to leave, the water was up to his chest when he stepped outside and was only able to bring a few items with him…

The National Guard is distributing water, MREs and other necessary supplies for the flood victims. Sgt. First Class Travis Jenkins says this effort it to make sure people affected can get through to the next phase of their recovery. He says all the Guardsmen are happy to be out here to help those in need.

Mayor Rick Ramsey says they’ve been told by FEMA that no temporary housing will be brought in for residents. He says FEMA will try to expedite some reimbursement but that isn’t enough…

The White House announces President Barack Obama will be in Baton Rouge on Tuesday to get a first-hand look at the impact of the devasting floods and also hear from local officials about the response. The President has faced criticism for not ending his vacation early to view the flood damage. The White House says the President has been receiving updates while vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard.

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber says based on their analysis 110-thousand homes in a nine-parish area have been impacted by the flooding and the damage estimate to those homes is near 21-billion dollars. The report says Livingston Parish suffered the most damage, estimating 87-percent of the homes were damaged by rising water, but only 22-percent of the homes are covered by flood insurance.

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber estimates 110-thousand homes have been impacted by the historic flooding within a nine parish area and their analysis puts the damage estimate to personal property at nearly 21-billion dollars. The NBA has reportedly made the decision to hold the 2017 NBA All-Star game in New Orleans. The game was set to be held in Charlotte, but the league took the game away from them, because North Carolina passed a law that limits anti-discrimination protections for L-G-B-T people. It would be the third time New Orleans has hosted the game since 2008.

When it comes to flood relief efforts, LSU Coach Les Miles and dozens of football players visit a shelter in Baton Rouge where hundreds of flood victims have used as a temporary home. Running back Leonard Fournette told reporters his sprained ankle will be fine for the season opener against Wisconsin.

Also two trucks of flood relief items are headed to Baton Rouge from South Carolina University. Alabama men’s basketball coach and former Southern University star Avery Johnson has sent semi-truck full of supplies from Tuscaloosa.

The Saints hold another joint practice with the Houston Texans today and then they’ll play the Texans in a preseason game on Saturday night in NRG Stadium.

There are no plans for President Barack Obama to cut his New England vacation short to see the devastation in Louisiana first hand. It’s caused many Louisiana residents to wonder if Mr. Obama is concerned about the flooding disaster. US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says the President can’t be everywhere, but he is up to date on the situation.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is in Baton Rouge today. Trump was near Greenwell Springs this morning touring flooded neighborhoods. He slammed the President for not coming to Louisiana.

Governor Edwards’ spokesperson says Trump is welcome to visit Louisiana, but not for a photo-op. He says the billionaire presidential candidate should consider volunteering or making a sizeable donation instead.

Some are questioning why President Barack Obama hasn’t cut his vacation short to visit the flood damage, but Governor John Bel Edwards says he’s been pleased with the federal government’s response. Edwards added that if the President came to the state this week, it would cause a disruption in traffic, hamper recovery and relief efforts and law enforcement officers would have to leave their posts to help with security….

Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump is in Louisiana this morning, along with his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Trump started his tour of the flood ravaged areas in Greenwell Springs in East Baton Rouge Parish.

AT&T and Verizon say they will provide a credit and free service to customers who live in parishes that have been severely impacted by the flooding.AT&T had a service outage during the height of the storm and the company says they will provide credit for those customers who went over their data plans.

Louisiana Economic Development estimates there are nine-thousand businesses impacted by the flooding. LED Secretary Don Pierson says they’re working closely with the US Small Business Administration to help those businesses get back on their feet…

For those who live in heavily flooded areas of the state, they maybe without power for awhile. Entergy spokesperson Kacee Kirschvink says if a customer’s meter has to be removed or deactivated because of water damage, the homeowner will then need to hire a licensed electrician to make sure their systems are ready to go once repairs are made…

About seven-thousand customers are without power due to the flooding.
