An updated analysis from the LSU AgCenter finds agriculture losses from the August flooding totaled nearly 277-million dollars. The original estimate was 110-million dollars in damage. AgCenter Economist Kurt Guidry says rice and soybeans were the two hardest hit crops…:

An Ascension parish man will spend the next five years behind bars after he beat his dog to death with a baseball bat. Jeff Dorson with the Humane Society of Louisiana says Jamari Jackson faced up to 10 years for the 2014 crime, but they are happy with the sentence he got…:

An elderly Slidell man by the name of Lanier Lively was arrested on 500 counts of possession of child pornography that were found on 23 electronic devices at his home. Troopers say the man had over 31,000 gigs of suspected child pornography.

American Cancer Society volunteers from Louisiana and many other states are in Washington, D.C, today rallying for more funding for cancer research. Director of the LSU Health Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center, Augusto Ochoa, says Louisiana has one of the highest rates of death by cancer in the country….:

Louisiana State Police has arrested a 73-year-old Slidell man on 500 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He says after executing a search warrant of his house, authorities found massive amounts of suspected child pornography…:

Danny Etling performed well in the 2nd quarter last weekend, sparking the Tigers to a 34-13 victory over Jacksonville State. Brandon Harris struggled against Wisconsin and in the first quarter against the Gamecocks. But Coach Les Miles has no regrets about not playing Etling against the Badgers. He added he’s confident that running back Leonard Fournette will be able to return to play Saturday.

The Saints have signed a cornerback to replace the injured Delvin Breaux. B-W Webb has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with New Orleans. Louisiana Tech’s Trent Taylor has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association offensive player of the week. Taylor had 11 catches for a career-high 178 yards in the Bulldogs weather delayed 53-24 win over South Carolina State. The state’s defensive player of the week is Kenny Doson of Nicholls State. The defensive lineman had five tackles, a sack and a forced fumble against Georgia. The Colonels host Incarnate Word for their Southland and home opener this Saturday.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy who was critically injured in the July ambush on police officers is headed to The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research in Houston, according to his father. Deputy Nick Tullier was one of six officers who were shot during an ambush shooting on Sunday, July 17. James Tullier said they heard back late Monday evening from TIRR saying they would happily take Nick.

FEMA announces an extended deadline for Louisiana National Flood insurance Program policyholders affected by the August floods to file proof-of-loss claims. You now have 120 days from the date of your loss to file a flood insurance claim if you’re a Louisiana NFIP policyholder.

LSU Football Coach Les Miles is not ready to say to the public who will start at quarterback this Saturday against Mississippi State. He did say that they’ll need both quarterbacks, Brandon Harris and Danny Etling, to play in every game.

The team will be wearing throwback “Gridiron Gold” uniforms for Saturday’s game against The Bulldogs in Tiger Stadium. The throwback uniforms will also include a vintage block “L” logo on right hip of the pants.

In the Louisiana Sports Writers Association honors, The Offensive Player of the Week is Louisiana Tech wide receiver Trent Taylor. He caught 11 passes for a career-high 178 yards and three touchdowns in a win over South Carolina State.

The LSWA Defensive Player of the Week honor goes to Nicholls State lineman Kenny Dotson. He forced a fumble that led to The Colonels first touchdown in a near win for Nicholls at Georgia.

The Special Teams Player of the Week is LSU’s Tre’Davious White. He had a winding, 60 yard punt return for a touchdown in the Tigers’ win over Jacksonville State.

President Obama has only agreed to increase the feds’ cost-share for the August flood. Abraham says between the two floods, 22 of the 24 parishes in his district were declared federal disaster areas. He says he sent a personal letter to the president explaining that the road to recovery is long in both north and south Louisiana, and the state needs more assistance from the federal government.
