A Market Research Insight poll finds in the U.S. Senate race, Republicans John Kennedy and Charles Boustany are neck and neck within one percent of each other. Pollster Verne Kennedy says Democrat Foster Campbell is at 14-percent and the reason Democrat Caroline Fayard is behind Campbell at 12-percent is because she isn’t getting support from white Democrats.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested 61-year-old Tommy Francis of Plaquemine for two cold case murders from 1990 and 2002. Sheriff Brett Stassi says both cases are featured on the Discovery channel show Killing Fields and publicity like this helps witnesses come forward. He says the families of Curtis Smith and George Barrett have been waiting for justice.

The Baton Rouge River Center has been renamed the Raising Cane’s River Center. The Baton Rouge based food chain signed a 10-year naming rights deal worth 4 million dollars. Americans ate nearly a pound more seafood in 2015 than in the previous year, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Karen Profita, believes this follows a national trend towards healthier eating.

Profita says now we need to educate people about the quality difference between domestic and imported seafood. She says Louisiana seafood is in high demand around the country, and people don’t mind paying more for it.

Profita says there are fewer shrimp this year, and no one really knows why. She says this could lead to some frustration if the supply can’t keep up with the demand, as seafood is becoming more of an everyday meal choice for people.

The poll was commissioned by a business group, and it has Democrat Foster Campbell polling at 14-percent. Kennedy says Boustany is leading among Republican voters, but the State Treasurer, who is a former Democrat, is still getting some of the white Democrat vote.

Kennedy says the better Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s does in the polls, the better Boustany will do. He says the reason Democrat Caroline Fayard, who is polling at 12-percent, is lagging behind Campbell is because she’s not getting support from white Democrats.

The cases were the subject of Season 2 of Discovery’s Killing Fields which Stassi says helped in putting this case to bed.

Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick announced today that a grand jury has returned an indictment for first-degree murder against Joshua Every for the killing of Raising Canes manager Taylor Friloux in Kenner. He said in a news release that his office has decided to seek the death penalty. Friloux died on June 29th after being stabbed multiple times during an armed robbery of the business.

People nationwide have been loading up on seafood, as new stats from NOAA show the average American ate nearly a pound more in 2015 than the prior year. Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Karen Profita, says Bayou State seafood is in high demand around the country, and people don’t mind paying more for it…:

NOAA says this is in line with how much fisherman brought in last year — 9.7 billions pounds of fish and shellfish, an increase of 2% from 2014.

The Attorney General’s Office announces the arrest of three Louisiana men on over 550 counts of child pornography. The AG’s Cyber Crime Unit says thousands of computer crimes that victimize children have been investigated but multiple agencies throughout the state.

Donald Trump is positioned to win the presidential race in Louisiana, according to a new poll from Southern Media and Opinion Research. Pollster Bernie Pinsonat says Trump still has a strong lead over Hillary Clinton, with only 12 days to go until Election Day.

Pinsonat says 8-percent of voters are still undecided.

Lawmakers will visit offshore oil and gas facilities as part of a two-day tour of Louisiana’s coast that begins today. Houma Representative Jerome Zeringue says the primary purpose of the trip is to help the oil and gas industry coexist with coastal restoration.

The State Fair of Louisiana kicks off today, which annually brings in hundreds of thousands of people to Shreveport every year. Governor John Bel Edwards leaves today on a two day tour where he will fly over the state coast then visit offshore oil and gas facilities. Houma Representative Jerome Zeringue will be one of the lawmakers on board. He says the governor is very adamant that the funding reserved for coastal restoration will be used for that purpose…:

Edwards said in a statement that it’s important that coastal restoration and the offshort energy co-exist because the state’s future depends on it.

State Police say they are investigating an officer involved shooting that took place last night on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge. They say only the suspect was short, then he lead authorities on a high speed chase into west Baton Rouge Parish where he was eventually arrested. LSP says the suspect’s injuries are not serious and they are working to determine how this all started.
