LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center is conducting a study on ways to slow the memory loss, and they are looking for volunteers. Director of Dementia Research Dr. Jeffery Keller says the treatment they’re studying is promising…:

Louisiana anglers rejoice as Toledo Bend has been ranked the number one bass fishery in the country for the second straight year by Bassmaster. Magazine Editor James Hall says there were over 130 10-pound bass catches at Toledo Bend this year…:

He says tourism in the area increased 23-percent last year when Toledo Bend ranked 1, and he expects it to go even higher now.

Autopsies confirm that the 3 year old Bossier City twins who died in a vehicle outside their lost their life due to heat-related issues. Oliver and Aria Orr were found unresponsive and its believed the toddlers could have been in the hot pickup truck more than two hours. Bossier Police say no charges have been filed at this time. The Orrs’ twins father is a deputy with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.

State Police say an arrest has been made in the case of a fatal hit and run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Terrebonne Parish. They say 52-year-old Darrell Barlow of Chauvin was booked with vehicular homicide, felony hit and run, improper lane usage and obstruction of justice. 22-year-old William Boyne was walking along a roadway last Friday when he was run over by Barlow’s truck, according to investigators.

He says the 185-thousand acre reservoir in Sabine and DeSoto Parishes has better catch rates in quality and quantity than any other fishery in the U.S.

A former deputy with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office accused of having sex with a 14-year-old runaway has bonded out of jail on $125,000. Cops say William Lanoux met the girl on social media, then met up in person to have sex while he was on the job. It’s reported the encounter occurred in the back of the suspect’s patrol unit. Authorities say the juvenile was reported missing by her family. Lanoux is charged with first degree rape and malfeasance in office.

There is still plenty of buzz today over the fact that DA Jerry Jones decided they will not prosecute the two Alabama players who were arrested on drug and gun charges in Monroe in May. Jones says there is not enough evidence that would indicate either Cameron Robinson or Hootie Jones were the ones in possession of the weapon or the pot, and he doesn’t want to ruin their lives.

Louisiana Tech says they will officially announce tomorrow that Lane Burroughs will be the new head baseball coach. Burroughs will become the 8th head coach in Tech ball history and takes over the program following 4 years as the head of the Northwestern State baseball team. The Demons say they will work swiftly to replace Burroughs, who posted a 113-113 record in four seasons at Northwestern State.

UL-Lafayette reports that Herman Williams, a 2016-17 signee to the school’s men’s basketball team, died last night after collapsing during a workout in Florida’s Jackson County. The Ragin Cajuns say Williams, who attended Marianna High School in Florida, signed his letter of intent in November. UL-Lafayette confirmed Williams’ death in a tweet last night.

Former LSU baseball star and Baltimore starting pitcher Kevin Gausman did not get a first win in Arlington last night as the Orioles fell 4-3 to the Texas Rangers. He struck out five, while allowing four runs in five innings.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington issued a statement regarding the 3-year-old twins who died in a hot vehicle in Bossier City. The father of Oliver and Aria Orr, Travis Orr, works as a deputy. Whittington this is even more difficult, as they are a part of the Sheriff’s Office family. Cops said they are still investigating how the children got into the truck.

Bogalusa Representative Malinda White believes fewer dollars should go to TOPS in favor of more money for hospitals that provide care for the poor and uninsured. She asked them what they would do if they came upon a wreck in her district and a safety net hospital was closed, because of a lack of funding.

White says the same people who want to fund TOPS did not vote in favor of revenue raising measures to get the funding. She says hospitals should take priority with the funds that are available.

LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center is looking for volunteers for a first-of-its-kind study to slow memory loss as a result of Alzheimer’s. Director of Pennington’s Institute for Dementia Research, Dr. Jeffery Keller, says they’re seeking people ages 50 to 85 who are concerned about their memory and don’t have a confirmed case of Alzheimer’s Disease to undergo this new investigational treatment.

Keller says this is a lengthy three year study, but it’s necessary because the disease forms in individuals who are asymptomatic and don’t show symptoms. He says Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the country, with 15 million people expected to be diagnosed by 2050.

Keller says this study is extremely promising because this approach has appeared to be something that’s moved the needle in people with Alzheimer’s. He says they hope this drug can prevent people without symptoms from developing the disease later in life.

Two Alabama football players arrested in Monroe on gun and drug possession charges will not be prosecuted. Ouachita Parish District Attorney Jerry Jones made that decision. Back in May, former northeast Louisiana prep stars Cameron Robinson and Hootie Jones were arrested after a Monroe police officer allegedly found them smoking pot inside a vehicle at Forsythe Park. DA Jerry Jones told KNOE that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute. In addition, Jones told the Monroe TV station that he refuses to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenager years, working and sweating, while were all at home in the air conditioning.

In other news out of north Louisiana, multiple media outlets are reporting Northwestern State’s Lane Burroughs will be the next head coach of the Louisiana Tech baseball program. Burroughs only led the Demons to 16 wins in his first season, but the last three years, Northwestern finished near the top of the Southland standings.

Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps spoke with the media for the first time today, since the end of the regular season. There’s been a lot of speculation about Demps’ future with the team after a disastrous 2015-16 season. Demps told the media he wants to be with the Pelicans as long as they want him. He also expects center Omer Asik to report to training camp next fall in better shape. Demps says Asik hurt his back prior to last season and never fully recovered.

Former LSU pitcher John Valek the third has signed a free-agent deal with the Colorado Rockies. Valek was 6-and-2 with a 4.04 ERA this past season.

Former LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman goes after his first win of the season tonight as the Orioles face the Texas Rangers in a battle of first place teams. Gausman is 0-4 this year for Baltimore. Derek Holland starts for the Rangers.
