There will likely be push back on this idea, as TOPS students are having to pay roughly 60-percent of their tuition for the spring semester, forcing many to work more hours, so they can continue college.

With budget shortfalls still looming, higher education leaders are looking at more potential changes to the TOPS scholarship program. Lawmakers are hopeful they can find the necessary $89 million to fully fund the program next year, but Higher Ed Commissioner JOe Rallo says changes will likely come to TOPS whether or not it’s fully funded…:

But the report found that funding for public health decreased by 28-percent over the last four years. LSU defensive tackle Christian Lacouture is returning for a fifth year of eligbility. Lacouture tore his ACL during preseason camp and decided to come back for one more season after talking with Head Coach Ed Orgeron and defensive line coach Pete Jenkins.

Meanwhile, receiver Jazz Ferguson has tweeted that he will transfer from LSU. The sophomore from St. Francisville has caught only two passes in his career. And there’s a report that receiver Malachi Dupre will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Tomorrow night, UL Lafayette will take on Southern Miss in the R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says turnovers will play a big role in who wins this game…

N-C Central’s Q-B Malcolm Bell has over 6-thousand passing yards in his career. Grambling Coach Broderick Fobbs says it should be a great game….

Both the Saints and Arizona have had disappointing seasons and they meet on Sunday in Glendale. But a bright spot for the Cardinals has been second-year running back David Johnson. He’s third in the NFL in rushing and also caught 69 passes on the season. New Orleans could be without linebacker Stephone Anthony and Delvin Breaux. Both players suffered injuries in the loss to the Buccaneers and did not practice yesterday.

A State Trooper has been arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and malfeasance in office. Alexandria Police booked 43-year-old Jeffrey Covington of Alexandria after he allegedly entered a person home on Thursday morning and was confronted, but left without incident. .

Tickets to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20th have been very popular. Cole Avery is a spokesperson for Congressman Ralph Abraham’s office and says they don’t have enough tickets to meet the demand, but they are keeping a record of everyone who made requests…

Three Louisiana cities rank as some of the highest in the US for losing the most jobs. According to 24/7 Wall St, Lafayette topped the list with 9400 losses in the past year. Houma/Thibodaux ranked third highest and Shreveport-Bossier came in at No. 4. Former Governor Edwin Edwards has been released from the hospital after battling pneumonia. Trina Edwards posted on Facebook that the former governor is on the mend. The 89 year old suffers from pneumonia on a recurring basis. He was hospitalized for the same issue in November of last year.

The struggling oil and gas industry is causing job losses across the state in massive numbers. 24/7 Wall St reports the Lafayette area had the largest employment decline over the past year with 9400 job losses.
