Moran says Orgeron and Kiffin worked together at USC and Tennessee, which makes Kiffin a realistic option for LSU.

We’re just two weeks away from the December 10 runoff, and early voting is underway. UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says the race for the 3rd Congressional district seat is really heating up between the two Republicans, Scott Angelle and Clay Higgins. He says the stakes are higher than expected in this election.

At a noon press conference today, LSU will introduce Ed Orgeron as their official new head coach. Tiger Rag Associate Editor James Moran says Orgeron met with Athletic Director Joe Alleva after the Tigers’ strong win over Texas A&M. He says Orgeron must have made a good impression at that meeting.

Today is Small Business Saturday and local businesses are expecting a big turnout. Spokesperson for the National Federation of Independent Businesses in Louisiana, Todd Pack, says a recent survey shows more people than ever are aware of Small Business Saturday, and 62-percent of those plan to shop at small retailers.

The survey found 63-percent of consumers are willing to spend more on items if it comes from a locally owned business.

Holiday shopping is in full swing. Executive Director of the Louisiana Retailers Association Dawn Johnson says this is an important time for retailers that were impacted by the historic floods in March and August.

She expects it will be a successful holiday shopping season for retailers.

Today’s Powerball jackpot drawing has soared to a massive 403 million dollars. Louisiana Lottery Spokesperson Kim Chopin says this is the second year in a row we’ve seen a big jackpot during the holidays, as it reached $1.6 billion last year. She says this year’s winner will be able to buy a lot of Christmas gifts.

Early voting for the December 10 runoff is underway, and U.S. Senate candidates, Republican John Kennedy and Democrat Foster Campbell, will not debate before the runoff. UL Lafayette Political science professor Pearson Cross says Kennedy could only lose in a face to face debate and the polls show he’s running comfortably ahead.

LSU has called a noon press conference to announce its new head football coach. It’s been reported that Ed Orgeron and Tom Herman were the two likely choices. Tiger Rag Magazine says Orgeron sat down with athletic director Joe Alleva yesterday morning after leading the Tigers to a 5-2 record as the interim head coach. There’s also been reports that LSU made an offer to Herman, who is 22-4 after two seasons at Houston.

The Saints and Rams will face each other in the Superdome on Sunday. Both teams are 4-6. Los Angeles’ defensive coordinator is Gregg Williams. He was the defensive coordinator for the Saints during the Super Bowl, but was suspended for the 2012 season because of the bounty scandel. Quarterback Drew Brees  chooses to focus on the positive…

Ryan Higgins entered yesterday’s game against Southern Miss with just four interceptions on the season. The Louisiana Tech quarterback threw three picks yesterday as the Bulldogs lost to Southern Miss 39-24. Despite the loss, Tech will still play in the Conference USA Championship game.

The winner of today’s Bayou Classic matchup between Southern and Grambling will play in the SWAC Championship against two-time defending champion Alcorn State next Saturday. Both teams are 8-0 in the league and capable of scoring a lot of points.

Also today, UL Lafayette hosts Arkansas State in an 11 AM kickoff at Cajun Field. The Cajuns need to win to keep hope alive for a possible bowl bid.

In the high school football playoffs….the defending champs in Division 3, Notre Dame, they were upset by St. Charles Catholic 21-10 last night. The Comets will face Riverside on Friday afternoon in the Dome. In Two-A, Sterlington knocked off Kinder 49-42 and they’ll face Many in the semifinals.

He says interim head coach Ed Orgeron still remains a candidate.
