State agencies are implementing the first round of budget cuts for the current fiscal year today. It’s to the tune of about $277 million dollars, according to Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne. But he says that’s just the beginning and we’ll get a bigger picture when the Revenue Estimating Conference meets on January 17th…:

If you’re a frequent shopper of Amazon and enjoy not having to pay sales taxes, that’s coming to an end in January. The mega online retailer will begin adding state and local sales taxes to purchases at the start of the year. The Saints have reportedly placed linebacker Stephone Anthony on injured reserve. It’s the end to a disappointing season for the second-year player. Anthony led the team in tackles last season at middle linebacker during his rookie campaign. But this season he only had 15 tackles in 10 games as he played strong side linebacker. Antony has been dealing with a knee injury.

The 6-and-8 Saints are getting ready for this Saturday’s home game against Tampa Bay. Many fans are getting frustrated with the team as they are headed for the their third consecutive losing season and might like a change at the top. College basketball last night, LSU finished the game on a 10-0 run to beat College of Charleston 75-65. McNeese topped Tulane 70-63, Rice dribbled past Northwestern State 100-93. Today, ULM faces Coppin State, Louisiana Tech hosts Florida Gulf Coast, Southeastern is at North Texas and the Cajuns host Pepperdine.

The first preseason college baseball poll is out and the LSU Tigers are ranked second by Collegiate Baseball. The Ragin Cajuns are ranked 14th, while Tulane is ranked 34th and Southeastern Louisiana ranked 36th.

State department heads will have to start making cuts to their respective agencies today as $277 million dollars has been carved from the state’s operating budget. A task force charged with coming up with tax reform recommendations feels the code in Louisiana is unfair. That’s according to Louisiana Department of Revenue Secretary, Kimberly Lewis Robinson. She says sales taxes should be applied to all retailers…:

Robinson says in order to be competitive, Louisiana needs a 4-percent sales tax, rather than a 5-percent rate.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 10-year-old boy tried to save his mom, while she was allegedly being raped, by hitting the suspect. They say 32-year-old Daniel Hinton is accused of raping the woman while she was sleeping while the child was in the room. He allegedly hit the child who was attempted to stop the assault. Hinton was arrested and charged with second-degree rape.

Three people in Washington Parish were arrested amid allegations of robbery, kidnapping and rape. Sheriff Mike Haley says 17-year-old Deonta Miller is accused of pretending to deliver a package to a home he robbed before kidnapping the woman who lives there and fleeing in her vehicle…:

Tax reform in Louisiana is one of the main recommendations coming out of a task force appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to come up with ways the state could better manage its revenue. Louisiana Department of Revenue Secretary, Kimberly Lewis Robinson, says currently the largest percentage of the budget comes from sales tax collections, which isn’t fair to consumers or businesses…:

She says they recommend broadening the sales tax base by eliminating certain exemptions.

Governor John Bel Edwards tomorrow will hold an end of the year news conference to talk about the challenges and successes Louisiana has seen in 2016, according to a release. The remarks will be made at the Governor’s Mansion at 11:30 Wednesday morning.

The Christmas driving season is in full swing and gas prices continue to rise. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $2.07, up 10 cents from the prior month.

In college baseball news, LSU pitcher Alex Lange and senior shortstop Kramer Robertson were named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball pre-season All-America teams. Lange was voted to the first team, and Robertson was named to the second team.

The LSU men’s basketball team was once again playing a close one last night as they secure a 75-65 win over the College of Charleston in the PMAC. It’s the 4th consecutive victory for the 8-2 Tigers. Also last night McNeese trounced Tulane 70-63. Northwestern State fell to Rice 100-93. Today ULM will face Coppin State on the road. Louisiana Tech hosts Florida Gulf Coast. Southeastern is at North Texas. UL Lafayette hosts Pepperdine.

In the NBA a struggling Pelicans team will look for a road win against the 76ers tonight. One of Philadelphia’s 7 wins on the season came against New Orleans earlier this month.

He says the teen is then accused of fleeing with the woman and raping her. Miller was charged with two counts of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping, and carjacking.

The Southern Rail Commission announced Monday that more than $2 million in federal funds will go to three southern states, including Louisiana, to restore passenger rail service. They said 11 communities will get the money for construction projects to improve safety, access and convenience.

Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of three people involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and rape. Chief Deputy Mike Haley says a woman in her early 50s and her husband were targeted for the heinous crime because of their large gun collection. He says the woman was home alone when 17-year-old Deonta Miller of Franklinton knocked on the door, posing as a package delivery person.

Haley says Miller then loaded up the weapons in the woman’s vehicle and kidnapped her. He says they drove to a remote part of Washington Parish, where Miller pulled off onto a hunting club road.

Haley says Miller fled into the woods on foot, and the victim ran in the opposite direction. He says after Miller apprehended in the woods, and they learned that 48-year-old Robert Lester was the mastermind of the crime. He says Lester followed Miller after the burglary.

Haley says Miller’s niece, 18-year-old Victoria Lester, was charged with accessory after the fact. He says Miller was charged with two counts of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping, and carjacking. Haley says Lester faces charges of principle to aggravated kidnapping, principle to carjacking, and principle to aggravated burglary.

Villere says several electors received tens of thousands of emails, letters, and phone calls asking them not to vote for Trump. He says even if some of Louisiana’s electors had changed their votes, there’s no way Mr. Trump wouldn’t have won.

Mr. Trump got 301 electoral votes. Villere says although electors sign an affidavit when they are selected saying they will vote for the nominee, they would not have faced consequences had they voted against Mr. Trump.
