LSU outside linebacker Arden Key has returned to the team. That’s according to head coach Ed Orgeron, who also said Key recently underwent successful houlder surgery. Key left the team for personal reasons prior to the start of spring football. He set the single-season record for sacks in a season in LSU history with 12 last season.

LSU offensive lineman Willie Allen has announced he’s transferring. Allen was in the 2016 recruiting class and signed with LSU out of John Curtis High School. He chose the Tigers over TCU, Ole Miss and Auburn.

Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been away from O-T-A’s and now we know why. Fairley is reportedly being tested for a possible heart condition and the situation is career threatening. Fairley’s agent, Brian Overstreet. says his client is doing well and just doing his own thing. Fairley signed a four-year, 28-million dollar deal with the Saints this offseason.

Three criminal justice reform senate bills will be heard in the House today. One of the biggest problems certain lawmakers have had with the legislation is that it would give parole eligibility for second degree murderers sentenced in the 1970s. But Natalie Laborde with the Department of Corrections says the legislature removed parole eligibility for these offenders in the 1980s…:

He says they now have a road map to work to ensure that this land loss crisis can end sooner than later.

Lawmakers said Sunday they are optimistic they won’t have to go to a special session once the regular session ends in four days. The Senate approved a budget that spends more money that what the House wants to spend in an effort to avoid cuts to various state agencies. Jeremy Alford of LaPolitics.com says this is closer to compromise.:

He says a conference committee with leaders from both chambers will now take place.

A flash flood watch is in effect until 7pm for portions of southwest and central Louisiana. The National Weather Service says an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall with isolated amounts of 3 to 4 inches will be possible through Monday night. The ground is very soggy and saturated which will make for slow draining and possible flooding conditions.

In New Orleans, three people died and 10 more wounded in what authorities say are the most shootings the city has had in a single day this year. It was Saturday. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is urging citizens who may have any information to please come forward, saying the silence following incidents like this is deafening especially in this age of social media.

Today the House takes up three Senate bills aimed at implementing criminal justice reform lawmakers promised to deliver during the session. Albany Representative Sherman Mack raised concerns about a provision that provides parole eligibility for second degree murderers sentenced in the 1970s, which means 160 inmates serving life sentences would become parole eligible…:

Rice was able to avoid elimination to play in the championship round against the Tigers following a 9-5 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Sunday. It was the third NCAA Regional appearance in the past four years for the Lions who finish the 2017 season with a 37-22 overall record.

LSU outside linebacker Arden Key will be back at practice today after undergoing shoulder surgery, according to coach Ed Orgeron. Key enters his third season as a starter for the Tigers in 2017, and in 23 career games has registered 97 tackles 21 for a loss and 17 sacks.

A third offensive lineman is transferring from the LSU program. Former John Curtis stand-out Willie Allen tweeted Sunday night that he plans to transfer.

Fox Sports is reporting that Saints Defensive Tackle Nick Fairley has a career threatening heart condition. He hasn’t been around for the past week and there is also word that he has not been in touch with any teammates with whom he normally communicates.

The LSU softball team was eliminated from the Women’s College World Series Saturday after falling to Oregon 4-1. It was the third straight appearance for the Tigers in the WCWS, and the third time in a row they go home without the big trophy.

In the NBA finals, the Warriors took a 2-0 lead following a 132-113 victory in game 2 last night over the Cavs.

Alford says a conference committee featuring lawmakers from both chambers will spend the next couple of days trying to reach an agreement on the budget. He says no one at the Capitol wants a special session, but it remains to be seen if a budget deal can be reached.

One bill was by Plaquemines Representative Chad Brown, while Bossier City Representative Ryan Gatti has a similar measure with the same objective. Lafayette Senator Patrick Cortez says it helps the police officers when drivers know what to do during a traffic stop.

The measures require driver’s ed teachers to tell student drivers how to conduct themselves if they are pulled over, including where to keep their hands and what paperwork to have on hand. Gatti says this will not increase the cost of the driving course for the students or the instructors.

Office of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Karen St. Germain says this legislation is needed so that everyone can remain safe during a traffic stop.
