Governor John Bel Edwards blames an epic failure of leadership in the House for not passing a spending plan for next fiscal year. The governor says the budget was in a good posture when it left the Senate, but the House refused to vote on it at all. He says a compromise will have to be reached during the special session.

A New Orleans Senator told a north Louisiana Representative to shut the f up on the House floor. Haughton Representative Dodie Horton says she would never disrespect her colleagues like that. She called the ordeal with Senator Karen Carter Peterson embarrassing.

The Louisiana Republican Party is calling for Peterson to step down as chair of the state Democratic Party.

Tickets are sold out for this weekend’s Baton Rouge Super Regional between LSU and Mississippi State, so if you want tickets, you’ll have to get them secondhand. StubHub spokesperson Johnna Hoff says the “get in the door” price is rising rapidly, as Game 1 standing room only tickets were $200 Friday morning.

You don’t need a license to fish in public waters this weekend. State Wildlife and Fisheries Outreach Biologist Alayna McGarry says there are no rules or exclusions for those who can fish without a license, but anglers will still have to follow all fishing regulations. She hopes this will encourage more individuals to purchase a license to fish after this weekend.

The budget dispute between two chambers came down to how much money to withhold in case of another midyear shortfall. The House wants to hold back at least 100-million dollars, the Senate and governor are pushing for a smaller number. Appropriations Chairman Cameron Henry says the governor refused to negotiate.

Lawmakers have until June 19 to reach a budget agreement.

Livingston Sheriff Jason Ard says the evidence doesn’t “fully” support claims made by Christopher Landry that Kayla Denham tried to rob him during a home visit for sensual massage services. Landry told police he left the room and returned to find the 24-year-old sealing his wallet. That’s when he allegedly hit her in the head with a pipe and choked her. Landry is charged with second degree murder, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to city records, it cost more than $2 million to remove the four confederate monuments in New Orleans. City officials say half of the money was from public funds, while the rest came from private donors. The city cut $90-thousand in costs to remove the Liberty Place monument, but the contractor who took three of the four statues down was out more than $200-thousand after the city refused to cover additional costs.

Lawmakers are playing the blame game as they enter the special session. House Appropriations Chairman Cameron Henry says the House tried to negotiate with Governor Edwards on the budget, and he wanted all or nothing. He says that seems to be the governor’s strategy these days.

In the chaos of the final minutes of the session, New Orleans Senator Karen Carter Peterson told Haughton Representative Dodie Horton to shut the f up. Horton says several lawmakers heard the comment from the chairwoman of the Louisiana Democratic Party.

The Livingston Parish man accused of killing a massage therapist says he killed the Baton Rouge woman after she tried to steal his wallet. That’s according to the police report released today. Christopher Landry, who allegedly murder of Kayla Denham, says he paid 140-dollars for a massage and a sexual favor. Sheriff Jason Ard says the evidence they collected, doesn’t match what Landry said.

Police say 22-year-old Christopher Landry told them he left the room and returned to find 24-year-old Kayla Denham stealing from him. That’s when he says he picked up a pipe, hit her in the head, and strangled her. Sheriff Jason Ard says the evidence does not support that story.

That’s according to a probable cause report. Sheriff Jason Ard says it’s still an active investigation and they must rely on evidence to find the truth. Christopher Landry has been charged in the death of Kayla Ann Denham.

The blame game is going on right now between the governor and House Republican leaders over who is responsible for the special session. The House and Senate couldn’t come to an agreement on a budget before the regular session ended at 6. Governor Edwards says both sides are going to have to give a little to come up with a solution…:

A teen in Union Parish is dead following what authorities call a tragic accidental shooting. They say deputies responded around 1pm Thursday afternoon to a location where they found a 14-year-old boy in the woods target shooting with an older sibling when he was shot once in the head. Investigators believe a .22-caliber rifle caused the wound.

And a reminder if you’re headed to New Orleans this weekend > Both Eastbound lanes of I-10 will be closed between Sorrento and Gramercy from 9 tonight through Monday morning at the latest.
