The Lafayette Police Department has made an arrest in the case of a man who crashed through the front doors of a church this morning. They believe 47-year-old Christopher Guillot was high on drugs when he struck Fatima (Faa-Teh-Mah) Church around 7am, and he’s been charged with driving while intoxicated and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.

Two men from Cameron Parish must pay hundreds of dollars in fines for stealing over 500 alligator eggs. That’s according to Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. He says 48-year-old Paul Canik and 25-year-old Christopher Trahan, both of Grand Chenier, have been sentenced in the July 2015 incident…:

Trahan was ordered to pay a $293 fine. Canick’s fine is $593 and he’s had his egg collection privileges suspended for 18 months.

Tulane Medical School has been implementing culinary medicine as part of their curriculum for years, and now schools all over the country are picking it up…:

That would mean legislators will need to make 185-million dollars in cuts to eliminate the rest of the deficit during a special session that will begin next week.

Tired of political rants on facebook from the people you follow. Matt Kruse (Krew-zee) has developed an app called the social fixer that can filter out discussion of politics on your feed. Kruse says Facebook currently doesn’t allow people to filter posts by content…

He says the social fixer app is only available for desktop browsers, but he’s working to develop a mobile version.

The man accussed of fatally shooting former NFL player Joe McKnight plead not guility to second-degree murder today. The defense team for Ronald Gasser say McKnight tried to open Gasser’s car door and their client feared for his left during an apparent road rage incident in Jefferson Parish last December. Legal Analyst Chick Foret says under Louisiana law, people do have extra protections in their vehicles, but the case won’t be that cut and dry…

Gasser remains in the Jefferson Parish jail in lieu of a 750-thousand dollar bond. His next court hearing is February 16th.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office is expected to release about an ATV accident involving the niece of pop star Britanny Spears. TMZ reports that eight-year-old Maddie Spears is in critical condition after the ATV she was ridding flipped over and Maddie was underwater for several minutes.

The suspect’s lawyers say their client was acting in self defense, but legal analyst Chick Foret says there are still a lot of unanswered questions:

State Police say the unidentified driver who died is the one who crossed the center line in the roadway, sideswiping one vehicle and then hitting an SUV head on. There were 7 occupants in the SUV and they sustained injuries. The initial unidentified driver died in the crash.

For the 5th time in as many weeks, Tiger Stadium was broken into and five juveniles were cited for unauthorized entry into a place of business, according to LSU officials. The teens were released after the Saturday incident. No damage was reported in the latest incident.

State Police confirm two people died in a crash on I-10 Sunday evening in Ascension Parish, and it’s believed alcohol is a factor in the crash. They say the wreck claimed the lives of 39-year-old Jeremy Jenkins of Baton Rouge, and 23-year-old Jared Cunningham of St. James. LSP says Cunningham, who is suspected of being impaired, lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road, flipping several times.

NRG Stadium in Houston is hosting its second ever Super Bowl this weekend, so when will it be New Orleans’ turn to get the big game again? Jay Cicero with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation says the Super Bowl is already awarded through 2021. He says, if New Orleans is selected to bid to host an 11th time, they would next be eligible in 2023.

Cicero says they will find out if New Orleans is invited to bid on 2023 this upcoming May.

A court settlement has been reached between Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson and his estranged heirs over removing the shares of the pro teams from trusts that were set up for Benson’s daughter and her two children. Details of the settlement have not been made public. Benson released a statement that says he’s pleased that this ordeal his behind them.
