The Saints have signed over a dozen unrestricted free agents, including former LSU wide receiver Travin Dural of Breaux Bridge.

In golf, Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith won the team format at the Zurich Class of New Orleans today. They defeated Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown in a playoff that was pushed to Monday, because of a six-hour weather delay on Sunday.

There are nine SEC games left and there are eight teams within one game of the overall lead in the Southeastern Conference. LSU is one of those eight baseball teams after sweeping Alabama. The Tigers next game is Friday as they will not play a midweek game because of final exams.

The Ragin Cajuns were swept by UT-Arlington and now find themselves in second place in Sun Belt’s West Division, two and a half games back of the Mavericks. ULM is in last plact at 6-15.

McNeese State remains in first place in the Southland, despite losing two of three to Sam Houston State. The Bearkats are one game back of the Cowboys in the loss column for first place.

The Lions swept Stephn F Austin and they are now 15-9 in league play and they’ll host Sam Houston State next weekend.

Louisiana Tech swept Western Kentucky and today pitcher Nate Harris was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. The senior tossed his third complete game of the season on Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 11-10 in league play and in fifth place in Conference USA.

A wet roadway following rain Sunday may have been a factor in a crash that claimed the life of an on-duty Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy. State Police believe 26-year-old Deputy Justin Beard lost control of his patrol car on the slick highway when he slammed into an embankment. They say Beard was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

New Orleans took a running back in the third round, Alvin Kamara. The Saints had a big need to draft a pass rusher and they waited until the sixth round, defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad.

Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux of LSU was the fifth round pick of the Miami Dolphins. Tigers wide receiver Malachi Dupre was picked in the seventh round by the Packers. In all, LSU finished the 2017 NFL Draft with eight players selected.

11th-ranked LSU picked up a 4-3 11th inning win over Alabama Saturday to complete the sweep. The victory was LSU’s first in extra innings this season.

20th-ranked UL-Lafayette came up empty handed in a doubleheader against UT Arlington falling 10-2 and 9-3 on Sunday. Its the Ragin Cajuns first series sweep since 2013.

ULM was dealt a 6-1 defeat by Georgia State in the teams’ Sun Belt Conference series finale in Atlanta.

McNeese State, who remain with the lead in the Southland standings, came up short against Sam Houston Sunday as the Cowboys fall 8-6.

Nicholls clinched the series against Lamar with a 5-4 victory Sunday.

Southeastern erased an early Stephen F. Austin lead and cruised to a sweep of the Lumberjacks with an 11-7 win Sunday.

Louisiana Tech completed the three-game sweep over WKU on Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 victory for the Diamond Dogs.

Former Nicholls State offensive lineman Chris Bordelon and defensive back B.T. Sanders signed rookie free agent contracts after the NFL draft.

Louisiana Tech wide receiver Carols Henderson was taken in the 3rd round by the Broncos.

Havard says the bill would eliminate exemptions and the franchise tax. He says this plan is the farthest thing away from Governor John Bel Edwards’ proposed gross receipts tax, which was pulled due to a major lack of support but he has received positive feedback on his measure.

The Mayor’s Office says speculation that a decision could be made this week is just that. After last July’s fatal incident outside a Baton Rouge convenience store, protestors called for justice. A week after the incident, a Missouri man attacked law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge, killing three and wounding three more. Delgado hopes we don’t see that kind of tragedy again.

But President of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the NAACP, Mike McClanahan says without justice, there can be no peace. He expects if DOJ does not bring forth charges, there will be protests and rallies around the city.

The Saints had a big need to draft a pass rusher and they waited until the sixth round to take one, defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad. The 6-3, 253-pounder had his issues at Miami. He was suspended for a fight during spring practice and later kicked off the team after allegedly receiving improper benefits from a car rental company. Payton says Muhammad has made some mistakes, but he’s been a good teammate…

You might not know it, but today is Election Day in Louisiana. Voters in 46 parishes will be deciding on vacancies in the state House, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal and the Lake Charles Mayor’s office. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says there is also a big Senate race.

The National Weather Service is calling for an enhanced risk of severe weather this weekend in northwest Louisiana with the potential for large hail, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes. Forecaster CS Ross says heavy rainfall is also possible.

A proposal heading to the Senate floor would require universities to make an action plan to prevent unplanned pregnancies. New Orleans Senator Wesley Bishop spent decades working in higher ed and says just two percent of teen mothers complete college by age 30.

Governor Edwards was on hand for the groundbreaking of DHL and Graphic Packaging International’s new folding carton operation and logistic center that will be built in Monroe.
