The Louisiana Nursing Home Association announces 18 Louisiana facilities are recipients of the Bronze Commitment Quality Award. Lisa Gardner with CommCare nursing centers says this award is not easy to receive.

Cindy has been downgraded to a tropical depression but flooding remains a big concern. State Climatologist Barry Keim says flash flood watches remain in effect for much of the state throughout tonight. He says strong winds could also cause problems in some areas.

18 nursing home facilities in the state have been chose as a recipient for the Bronze- Commitment to Quality Award, according to the Louisiana Nursing Home Association. Lisa Gardner with CommCare nursing centers says this Bronze achievement points nursing homes in a direction to improve their facilities even more. She says there are three levels of commitment, bronze, silver, and gold.

Angola inmate John Floyd has been set free after spending 36 years behind bars after a U.S. District Court judge tossed his life in prison conviction. Judge Sarah Vance believed there was evidence that Floyd was wrongly convicted in the 1980 murder of William Hines, a proofreader with the Times- Picayune.

Cindy made landfall as a tropical storm this morning near the Texas-Louisiana border, but has since been downgraded to a tropical depression. State Climatologist Barry Keim says flooding remains the concern. He says as the system moves inland it will weaken, but rainfall is still a threat to Louisiana.

Keim says we still need to be vigilant. He says northwest Louisiana is likely to get the heaviest rains with potential for up to five inches. He says we aren’t out of the woods yet.

Flash flood watches remain in effect for much of the state through this evening. Keim says strong winds could also cause problems in some areas.

Wilson encourages motorists to visit 511la.org for up to date travel information. He says over 37,000 people have visited the site in just 24 hours. He says this is the most central location for information on road closures.

The Board of Regents has granted a license for ULM to host New York Institute of Technology’s new medical school in northeast Louisiana. ULM President Dr. Nick Bruno says this will give students throughout Louisiana the opportunity to attend medical school right on the Monroe campus.

Bruno says this is an incredible opportunity that’s been about two years in the making. He says the targeted timeline for enrolling students is fall of 2019. He says it’s exciting to host a medical school at the only publicly funded pharmacy school in the state.

Bruno says this new med school could also help to improve the health of the community, which is one of the poorest regions in the country. He adds the economic impact could also be quite significant. He says the Stubbs Hall building on campus could be the future home of the medical school.

By beating The Noles, LSU advanced to face No. 1-seed Oregon State, and must beat the Beavers twice to advance to the best-of-three CWS Final series. LSU students could be looking at paying 2% more in fees starting in the fall. Today a Board of Supervisors committee approved the increase, which now goes before the full board for a vote this afternoon. The hike would not be covered by TOPS, and students who attend the main LSU campus would pay an additional $270.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says Cindy made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border around 3 o’clock this morning. He says the system is inland and weakening, but it’s still a rainfall threat to Louisiana…:

U2 front man Bono visited with Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise’s staff and signed a card wishing the injured House Majority Whip a speedy recovery. The band performed in Washington DC this week. Scalise was grievously injured when a gunman opened fire at a Republican baseball practice last Wednesday, injuring several people. The congressman is in fair condition.

The Louisiana National Guard wants residents to know they are ready to help if needed as heavy rain continues to fall. Major General Glenn Curtis with the Louisiana National Guard says they are working closely with parish governments.

Flood victims are not completing the survey to receive federal assistance as quickly as state officials had expected. John Bel Edwards says so far only 23,000 people have submitted the survey. He advises people to do so quickly because the homeowners assistance program is in full swing.

Edwards says the first step to getting into the homeowner assistance program is to complete the survey at restore.la.gov.

The Tigers dominated last night eliminating Florida State with a 7 to 4 victory in the College World Series. Pitcher Jared Poche led LSU to the semifinal round with a record setting 39th career win allowing only four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. The Tigers will face Oregon State again on Friday at 2 after a tough loss to the Beavers on Monday night.

Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall in Cameron Parish in southwest Louisiana early this morning and is expected to weaken as it moves farther inland throughout the day. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through tomorrow morning, and a Tornado Watch until 1 p.m. for much of the state. Forecasters now say that the biggest rain threat looks to occur over the western half of the state and northwest and northeast Louisiana.

2016 Flood victims are not completing the survey to get federal assistance as quickly as state officials had hoped. Governor John Bel Edwards says only 26,000 people have completed the survey so far. The site is restore.la.gov, but Edwards says there are other options…:

A Houghton woman is under arrest accused of trying to kill her husband by slashing his throat during a drunken and drug infused argument. 27-yer-old Adrianne Warren is charged with attempted 2nd degree murder. Bossier officials say bond for Warren was set at $160,000.

Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall early this morning in Southwestern Louisiana, and state officials are urging residents to stay on guard as the storm moves through. Stephen Carboni with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles says winds can down tree limbs and power lines, and he warns the public to be aware of that possibility…:

Heavy rain bands are expected to develop later this morning which could add several inches to already saturated grounds. Alek Krautman with the National Weather Service in New Orleans says along with the strong winds and heavy rains, there’s also an increased risk on the roadways. He advises drivers to take caution if you have to get out in the storm:

Flash flood and tornado watches are posted throughout much of the southern Louisiana.

Winds are around 40 miles per hour and Cindy has already been a big rain maker in some areas. The eastern portion of the state is under a tornado watch through the early afternoon hours.

The LSU baseball team faced elimination Wednesday night at the College World Series in Omaha, but the team pulled through for a 7-4 win against Florida State. The Tigers advance to play Oregon State again on Friday at 2 p.m.

The Louisiana National Guard wants residents to know they are ready if assistance is needed from the flooding Cindy may produce. Major General Glenn Curtis says they have pre-staged 100 high water vehicles and 33 boats throughout the southern and central regions of the state…:
