Orgeron has learned that safety John Battle will receive another year of eligibilty and has been re-classified as a redshirt junior. The Florida native received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA to make up for his medical hardship freshman season of 2014.

Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky have been picked to win division titles in Conference USA. Tech has won two of the past three West Division titles, while the Hilltoppers are trying to become the first program in Conference USA history to win three straight outright league titles. Texas-San Antonio was selected to finish second in the West.

The LSU basketball team learned its bracket assignment and first-round opponent for the 2017 Maui Invitational in Hawaii. First year coach Will Wade and the Tigers will begin play in the 8 team event against Michigan on November 20th. Depending on what happens the first two days, LSU could face Wade’s old team, VCU.

New Orleans Pelicans Coach Alvin Gentry told a New Orleans radio station that he plans on starting both guards Rajon Rondo and Jrue Holiday together going into the 2017-18 season. Rondo would be the point guard and Holiday would be the shooting guard. Holiday has been New Orleans starting point guard, but Gentry says they also like his ability to score and play off the ball.

Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves expressed his frustrations over the barrier between lanes of I-12 in Livingston Parish during a FAST Act hearing in Washington. Graves says the giant wall seemed to contribute to flooding in communities north of I-12 during the August 2016 devastation….:

It’s been nearly a year since the south Louisiana floods, yet nothing has been done to address the interstate issue. Graves says it’s not about pointing fingers, it’s about making sure this doesn’t happen again.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner has identified the woman found dead in a house fire as the wife of Fire District No. 12 Chief Stephen Krentel. 49-year-old Nanette Krentel perished in a blaze in Lacombe on Friday, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause is under investigation.

According to the Zachary Police Department one person was killed in a suspected home invasion last night. They believe the suspect was shot by the homeowner who lived in an area where a lot of elderly people reside and had started having some break-in problems. More information is being released at this hour.

During a hearing in Washington, Baton Rouge Republican Congressman Garret Graves expressed his frustration over the lack of drainage on I-12 in Livingston Parish. Graves says one reason for the delay is a lawsuit filed by the city of Walker claiming the barrier worsened flooding last August. But he says the problem can be addressed without the state admitting guilt, because other groups want the wall fixed too…

DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson said last year that no amount of drainage could have handled all the water produced by last year’s deadly flood.

A little rain would not be a bad thing today as the northern half of the state is under a heat advisory until seven o’ clock tonight. The National Weather Service in Shreveport says it will be hot and humid, with heat indicies reaching 108-degrees. Even warmer temperatures are expected tomorrow.

Three Louisiana cities made Wallethub’s ranking for most stressed in the country. Shreveport came in at number four, New Orleans 19th and Baton Rouge 21st. Analyst Jill Gonzales says these cities ranked poorly because of the percentage of smokers and the lack of working out. Gonzales says the poverty rate is another factor, but there are financial benefits in other areas…

NOLA Brewing Company is the latest to release a collegiate beer. It’s the Green Wave Beer for Tulane and Brewery president Kirk Coco says it’s been in the works for a while but they had to wait to see what happened with a bill seeking to end university beers. He’s glad the measure failed because the argument that they promote underage drinking is ridiculous:

Community leaders in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida are pushing for a new passenger train that would run through the Gulf Coast. The group is asking Congress to consider two Amtrak routes, one from New Orleans to Orlando daily, and a round trip route from The Big Easy to Mobile.

Today Governor John Bel Edwards will appear on his statewide radio show, “Ask the Governor” beginning at 2pm.

Discount carrier Frontier Airlines says they are adding direct flights from New Orleans to four other cities beginning in October. They are non-stop service from Louis Armstrong International to San Antonio, Austin-Bergstrom, Long Island, and Providence. The Denver based airline also says they are offering one-way fares on some flights starting at $39 for a limited time.

Tulane University is the latest Louisiana school to trademark its own brew, after partnering with NOLA Brewing Company to release the Green Wave Beer. Brewery president Kirk Coco says the new brew is a filtered version of a Heffeweizen, a dry, wheat beer with a little bitterness. He says this Kristalweizen is similar without all the floating yeast..:

Shreveport is the 10th most stressed city out of 150 metropolitan areas throughout the nation surveyed by WalletHub. Does Louisiana really need a state treasurer? LaPolitics.com publisher Jeremy Alford believes since there hasn’t been an open race for the seat in 17 years, it might be time to have a conversation about eliminating the post. He says while he doesn’t see any of the major candidates running on the “hire-me-to-fire-me” campaign, it has happened before with Suzanne Terrell in the 1999 race for Election Commissioner…:

After an almost 4-day long search, the Baton Rouge man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend turned himself in to police. BRPD says 52-year-old Robert Antoine is charged with second degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and illegal use of a weapon. Cops believe 41-year-old Monique Maxie was exiting a vehicle when Antoine shot her multiple times.

LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron is going to go through ESPN’s Car Wash today in Bristol. Coach O will participate in nearly 25 interviews during his trip, including this morning on SportsCenter at 8:30, then again at 10:15..then will join Paul Finebaum, Coast to Coast and Stephen A Smith Radio.

At a state High School coaches clinic Tuesday, Orgeron thanked participants for keeping other programs from holding satellite camps in Louisiana. He told the coaches at the LHSCA gathering he knew they’d been approached by powerhouse teams like Texas and Michigan, but appreciates that they didn’t let them into The Bayou State.

It was at the clinic that reporters broke the news to Coach O that LSU safety John Battle’s career has been extended. The Florida native received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA to make up for his medical hardship freshman season of 2014. Instead of being a senior, he’s been re-classified as a redshirt junior.

The award watch list nods continue to roll in for LSU. Senior quarterback Danny Etling has been named to the 2017 Danny Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which is awarded to the player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

The Environmental Defense Fund is suing the feds over the extended red snapper season in the Gulf of Mexico. Director of the Gulf of Mexico Oceans Program, Robert Jones, says the longer season causes concern for more than 7 million pounds of overfishing.

Jones says his hope is to get rid of fixed seasons because they are of no benefit to the anglers.

Readers of Travel + Leisure have named New Orleans the number four city in the US. Kristian Sonnier with the New Orleans CVB says New Orleans is always changing, giving visitors something new to see on each trip. He says the restaurant boom has been huge, and new hotels are popping up and transforming whole neighborhoods.

A Ouachita Parish man is facing multiple drug charges after police say he hid marijuana in a milkshake. Authorities say 31-year-old Daniel Sadler was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt. That’s when officers found suspected methamphetamine in his wallet, multiple beer cans under the seat, and a pill bottle full of pot in a frosty.

Brewery president Kirk Coco says the new brew is a filtered version of a Heffeweizen, a dry, wheat beer with a little bitterness. He says this Kristalweizen is similar without all the floating yeast.

Less than 70 percent of the Shreveport population reported working out in the last month, which was one of the lowest rates in the country. Gonzales says residents of the city are also seeing more work related stress.

New Orleans, which came in at number 19, and 21st ranked Baton Rouge are also seeing similar problems related to health and work stress. Gonzales says these Louisiana cities did fare well in other areas, like having a low suicide rate. She says although the poverty rate is high, we’re seeing financial benefits in other areas.
