It was a deadly weekend in Baton Rouge. Sgt. Don Coppola with the Baton Rouge Police Department says two teens were killed when a drug deal went wrong on Sunday evening..:

He says a woman was also found stabbed to death in a home on Sunday morning.

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency has proposed adding the American Creosote Deridder, an environmentally contaminated site, to the Superfund National Priorities Site. Louisiana DEQ spokesman Greg Langley says once this Beauregard Parish site is added to the list, it’s in line to receive federal funding that can go towards cleanup:

Slidell Police say a domestic disturbance lead to a fatal stabbing Sunday evening. Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says officers learned that the suspect, 25-year-old Joseph Thibodeaux of Pearl River, was arguing with his fiance, and threatening to stab others in the house..:

New laws take effect tomorrow that seek to curb the litter problem in Louisiana. One law lowers the fine for littering from $1,000 to $900. Fines for littering were doubled in 2015, which triggered jury trial provisions that made enforcement less likely….:

Slidell Police say a domestic disturbance lead to a fatal stabbing Sunday evening. Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says officers learned that the suspect, 25-year-old Joseph Thibodeaux of Pearl River, was arguing with his fiance, and threatening to stab others in the house including the fiance’s uncle who died at the scene. Thibodeaux is charged with second degree murder.

It was a deadly weekend in Baton Rouge. Cops say two teens are dead after a shooting Sunday that police believe happened after a dispute over a drug transaction. Investigators believe 19-year-old Kenyi Kolok met 18-year-old Orenthean Daniels to conduct a deal that went wrong. Police said Kolok died on the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, and Daniels was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries also.

The LSU football team reported to campus on Sunday as the Tigers are set to open its first training camp under head coach Ed Orgeron. Coach O says he’s eager to see how it all comes together…:

Tomorrow Lafayette becomes the 11th Louisiana city to ban smoking in bars. CEO of the Smoking Cessation Trust Mike Rogers says as more and more bans are enacted around the state, they’re seeing more smokers trying to kick the habit.

According to the Center for American Progress, a gun is stolen from a private Louisiana gun owner every 67 minutes. Vice president of guns and crime policy Chelsea Parsons says the Bayou State ranks in the top 15 states for stolen firearms.

The FBI finds 718 guns were stolen in the state between 2012 and 2016.

Walnuts may promote better health according to research from LSU Health New Orleans. Researcher Dr. Lauri Byerley says walnuts can help promote good bacteria growth in your digestive organs.

Byerley says a diverse bacteria community in the gut can lead to better health.

The Slidell Police Department says a suspect is in custody in connection with a fatal stabbing which occurred Sunday. They say cops were called to the home in reference to a domestic disturbance and found one person stabbed who later died. Additional details are slated to be released today.

Tropical Depression No. 6 in the Gulf of Mexico near Florida is now Tropical Storm Emily. As of the National Weather Service 8 a.m. advisory Emily was about 45 miles west northwest of Tampa and is expected to swing northeast tonight into Tuesday.

LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine has found that walnuts in the diet change the makeup of bacteria in the gut, which suggests a new way walnuts may contribute to better health. Lead researcher Dr. Lauri Byerley says a more diverse bacteria community in the gut is good:

Eating walnuts has been associated with reduced cardiovascular disease risk, slower tumor growth in animals and improved brain health.

A tropical storm unexpectedly formed in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida’s coast this morning. Forecasters say Tropical Storm Emelie is 45 miles west-southwest of Tampa, moving east. Forecasters expect the storm to turn northeast and increase in forward speed, making landfall on the west-central Florida coast this afternoon.

Baton Rouge firefighters have identified a man who died in a house fire Saturday night. They say 63-year-old Charlie Cooper perished in the blaze which remains under investigation.

The LSU football team reported to campus on Sunday as the Tigers are set to open its first training camp under head coach Ed Orgeron. LSU returns 11 starters from last year’s team, six on offense and five on defense. It’s unclear who will emerge as the Tigers top wide receivers behind senior D.J. Chark. There’s also big position battles at linebacker and safety and how much has Danny Etling improved at quarterback. Coach O says he’s eager to see how it all comes together…:

Preseason camp will be closed off to the media. Orgeron said there is a lot of things they have to get done offensively and defensively they have a lot of new guys. He said media access will return August 21st, if not sooner.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron announced Seth Stewart is no longer part of the LSU football program after signing with the Tigers in February, and that the offensive lineman has decided to quit football.

Saints running back Adrian Peterson rested after the stretching period during training camp on Sunday, but coach Sean Payton said that they just don’t want to push him too hard…:

Right tackle Zach Strief and linebacker Manti Te’o also rested after the stretching period of Day Four’s workout.

The Colorado Rockies have acquired former UL-Lafayette catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Texas Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later, the teams announced. Lucroy is hitting .242 with four home runs and 27 RBIs and also has a .297 on-base percentage.
