The state Department of Revenue is reminding some taxpayers to claim refunds before it’s too late. LDR sent letters to about 95-hundred taxpayers advising them to claim their state income tax refunds before they are transferred to the Unclaimed Property Division. Spokesperson Byron Henderson says those who received a letter have until September 6th..:

He says the total amount of unclaimed refunds is 8.6 million dollars for refunds issued June 30th of 2016.

Calcasieu Public Library officials are warning residents not to use the eclipse glasses distributed at their branches. Residents are asked to throw the glasses away because “they may not be suitable for use during the eclipse.” In a statement, officials say they’ve received notice that there may be a defect in the glasses and we don’t want to take any chances in harming any of our patrons.

An American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Report finds Louisiana is slacking when it comes to implementing policies to reduce and prevent tobacco use. About 33-percent of cancer deaths in the Bayou State are a result of tobacco use. ACS CAN Spokesperson Lance Barbour says lawmakers could save lives just by increasing the tax on a pack of cigarettes.

Gas prices seem to be leveling off after peaking over the last few weeks, according the GasBuddy. Patrick DeHann with GasBuddy expects gas prices to continue this trend for the next few weeks before they drop in mid to late September. He credits a low gasoline tax and the oil industry for the low prices in the Bayou State.

The ACLU of Louisiana has sent a letter to LSP Superintendent Col. Kevin Reeves after a man was ticked for giving the middle finger to a state trooper on I-20 near Rayville. Executive Director Marjoie Esman says the man was charged with felony public intimidation.

Louisiana National Flood Insurance Program policyholders have received more than $2.4 billion in insurance payments during the year after the August 2016 flood. More than 29,000 claims have been closed. The data released Tuesday indicates Louisianians received an average payment of about $88,300 to repair and rebuild homes and businesses.

Saints defensive back Delvin Breaux has a broken leg, and the club has reportedly fired two doctors who allegedly got the diagnosis wrong.
