Game one of the world series is tonight. Former LSU standout Alex Bregman will likely start at third base for the Astros and bat towards the top of the line-up as the Dodgers will send lefty ace Clayton Kershaw to the hill. First pitch is just after 7 PM.

The Pelicans look to even up their record at 2-and-2 on the season as they visit Portland. The Trail Blazers are 2-and-1 and they lead the NBA in three-point percentage shooting at 49-percent. Anthony Davis is averaging 32 points and 17 rebounds a game.

Former LSU standout Ben Simmons had his first triple-double of his young career as the 76ers dribbled past the Pistons 97-86. Simmonds had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

32-year-old Amethyst Baird Rathore of Monroe has pleaded guilty to attempted first murder of a police officer and three other charges in the January shooting of a state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agent. Rathore shot Tyler Wheeler four times during a traffic stop in Morehouse Parish. Legal analyst Tim Meche expects law enforcement will have a strong presence at sentencing hearing to make sure Rathore is punished appropriately.

The number of salmonella cases in Caldwell Parish has increased.    158 have been identified with the gastrointestinal illness and 40 have been hospitalized.  There is a second pathogen that has been identified, leading officials to believe that is why the illness traveled so quickly and affected so many people.  Some food samples from the jambalaya from a charity softball game have tested positive for salmonella.

Rathore’s attorney has said she suffered a concussion prior to the shooting of agent Tyler Wheeler. Legal analyst Tim Meche says her attorney may use that defense at the sentencing hearing…:

Fourth District Attorney Steve Tew didn’t expect her plea, but will seek the longest sentence possible based on the fact she’s a habitual offender.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported two people were shot and killed last night in what appears to be a domestic incident. The names of the victims have not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.

Tulane University has received a grant to reduce auto emissions from the chemical science company, SACHEM (Say-chem). Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Daniel Shantz (Sean-tz) says this grant will allow researchers to make materials for a diesel truck’s emission system to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions…:

Celebrity chef John Besh is stepping down “from all aspects of operations” of his restaurant group. Besh became the focus of a sexual harassment scandal following a Times-Picayune exposé of allegations throughout the Besh Restaurant Group. While Besh denied the allegations of workplace harassment, he did acknowledge an affair with a female employee, and said he was trying to repair the damage that affair did to his family.

Defense has been a big reason for the Saints turn around this season. In the first two games, New Orleans allowed 65 points, in the four games since, they’ve allowed 68 points. Head Coach Sean Payton says defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is putting the players in the right place to succeed..:

The Saints won their fourth straight on Sunday as they defeated the Green Bay Packers 26-17.

The offensive line may have to shuffle once again. According to Ian Rapaport, guard Larry Warford will be out ‘several’ weeks after suffering an abdominal injury. It wouldn’t be the first time this season the Saints had to shake things up on the o-line. Terron Armstead missed the first four games of the season, while Zach Strief is on injured reserve.

New Orleans hosts Chicago this Sunday.

LSU and Alabama will kickoff at 7pm on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Tuscaloosa. Both the Tigers and Tide will enjoy a bye this weekend. No. 23 LSU is on a three-game winning streak after losing to Mississippi State and Troy earlier this season. No. 1 Alabama will roll into Bryant–Denny Stadium undefeated and untested.

Grambling has won seven in a row as the Tigers defeated Alcorn State 41-14. Devante Kincade threw for 268 yards and two scores and linebacker De’Arius Christmas had 14 tackles, a sack and forced fumble and both players were named SWAC Players of the Week. Grambling is now No. 13 in the FCS College Football rankings.

A second bacteria has been identified in connection with a salmonella outbreak that have left 158 sick in Caldwell Parish with 40 hospitalized.   They have been since discharged.  Public Officer of Health for Central Louisiana Dr. David Holcombe says testing is underway to determine which foods were contaminated…

Gas prices are on a slow decline, but motorists are still paying more than they did at this time last year. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says a year ago the statewide average was $2.09. He expects gas prices to decline towards that figure as the weeks go by..

Nationally the average price at the pump has fallen for 15 of the last 20 days.

Singer and former child actor Corey Feldman was charged with weed possession in the northeast Louisiana town of Mangham . Feldman and members of his crew, who were also charged, were in town for a gig in Monroe. Mangham Police Chief Perry Fleming calls it a minor incident..:
