Authorities say the man who murdered a woman whose body was found in Pineville last week, is also the person that allegedly killed two people, who were burned in a ditch on Old Boyce Highway that same morning. Hilton says they also arrested Sonnier’s sister, Ebony Sonnier. She’s also facing three counts of first-degree murder. A motive was not given at today’s press conference.

The Lafayette Fire Department says a two-year-old died in a morning house fire on Kettering Circle. Officials say they attempted to rescure the toddler, but the flames were too intense. Two adults and an infant were able to escape and investigators believe the deadly blaze started in the living room.

Someone in Eunice hit the Powerball jackpot when they bought a ticket worth 1919 million dollars. Louisiana Lottery Spokesperson Kim Chopin says the winning ticket was sold at Brownie’s on West Maple Ave. She says the Louisiana Lottery gives the store a bonus for selling jackpot winning tickets.

Chopin says if the winner decides to take the cash value of the jackpot, they will receive 119-million dollars.

He says Ebony Sonnier’s charges could result in the death penalty for the death of the two men found burned in a ditch.

Nearly 25-percent of new jobs created in Louisiana were in the tourism industry. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says this is one industry that has huge growth potential in all corners of Louisiana.

Over six-thousand new travel related jobs were created in the last 12 months, based on data from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Board of Regents is requesting 192 million dollars more in state funding for public colleges in 2018. The money would go straight to the four college systems as they suffered budget cuts for years. It’s unlikely the request will be granted by lawmakers or Governor Edwards because the legislature is still looking at how to stop from falling off a 1 billion dollar fiscal cliff.

A 191 million dollar Powerball jackpot ticket was sold last night at a gas station in Eunice. Louisiana Lottery Spokesperson Kim Chopin says the last time the Bayou State saw a Powerball jackpot winner was in May of 2013. She says the previous Powerball jackpot record was 97-million dollars in 2008.

Good news for Louisiana’s tourism industry. Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas did not practice yesterday, because of a knee injury. But Coach Sean Payton said today that it is not serious. If Thomas is able to practice today that’s a good indication he’ll play this Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

One of the top performers on the Bears defense is former Saint Akiem Hicks. The defensive tackle leads Chicago with six sacks. Payton says Hicks is very disruptive…

DeMarcus Cousins returns to Sacramento tonight as the Pelcians close out a three-game road trip against the Kings. No word if Anthony Davis will play after leaving Tuesday’s loss to Portland with a knee injury.

LSU right tackle Toby Weathersby says he’s feeling much better after dealing with heat-related headaches. Weathersby didn’t play against Troy and Auburn. And LSU cornerback Donte Jackson says time will only tell if he’ll leave after his junior season. Head Coach Ed Orgeron told reporters this week that he needs to recruit cornerbacks, because he could be losing both Jackson and Kevin Toliver.

Former LSU standout Alex Bregman says it was the best baseball game ever as the Houston Astros outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers seven to six in eleven innings. Bregman was two for six with one run scored and he drove in the first run of the game for the second consecutive night. He also made a nice play in the field on a line drive in the 10th inning. Game 3 is tomorrow night in Houston.

Because of possible rain in the forecast tomorrow, several high school football games have been moved to Thursday night. In Southwest Louisiana, Welsh will host the Notre Dame Pioneers. It’s the first meeting between the two teams since 1996 and both come into tonight’s contest undefeated. And in northeast Louisiana….West Monroe takes on Ouachita.

Grambling State University is still reeling from a shooting early Wednesday which left a student and his friend dead.  A student was shot in a separate incident last month.  Grambling President Rick Gallot says Grambling is a gun free zone and residential life works hard to keep on campus housing as safe as possible.
