The State Department of Health is warning those who frequent indoor shooting ranges about toxic exposure to lead. There are at least 50 shooting ranges in Louisiana, a third of those are indoor. Dr. David Holcombe with Office of Public Health says there are no regulations in place to control dangerous exposure levels…

Over the past 40 years, the CDC says 36 studies show higher toxic lead levels among those who use gun ranges regularly.  Dr. Holcombe says people can take proactive measures to make sure they reduce lead exposure from affecting them…

Health effects from lead can permanently damage vital organs and in children, damage the nervous system, slow growth, create learning and behavior problems. Dr. Holcombe says he saw a hunter with a terrible case of lead poisoning…

He adds to make sure you get regular medical checkups and blood work to monitor your exposure to lead.

Halloween is today and with that comes trick or treating.   State Trooper Jesse LaGrange says it’s vital that drivers easily see children who are out and about.  He says make sure they are easily seen in darker shaded costumes…

LaGrange says drivers need to be aware of the extra foot traffic in neighborhoods and drive with caution…

Registered sex offenders cannot participate in trick or treating activities.  For extra protection, Lagrange says for parents to be proactive and investigate the neighborhood they plan to take children beforehand…

Other tips include children knowing their address and phone number in case they get lost, trick or treating in well-lit neighborhoods and having parents inspect all candy before eating after returning home.

Due to an increase in flu activity in Cameron Parish, The Louisiana Department of Health is scheduling an additional flu vaccination clinic.  Dr. B. J. Foch (Fosh) says the cases are concentrated in one area…

The flu hospitalizes three-thousand per year and causes about 500 deaths in Louisiana.  Foch says the flu shot can be administered to just about everyone and the Department of Health says it’s very important for some segments of the population to get one…

The clinic will be held on Thursday from 8 to 4:30 at the Cameron Parish Health Unit in Cameron.  Foch says patients need to make sure to bring insurance cards to move the process along quickly.  He hopes everyone who still needs a flu shot comes out…

He says if you miss this chance, you can still get flu shots at pharmacies, doctors offices or federally qualified community health centers.

19th ranked LSU is getting ready to play top ranked Alabama, but junior tight end Foster Moreau doesn’t sound too stressed out. Moreau was one of several Tiger players to meet with reporters yesterday and here’s what he said when asked to describe Alabama…

Such a use of public money for personal benefit may violate both state and federal laws. The G-Flex accounts can be used to buy text books, meals and snacks.  State Auditor Roger Harris says even though the money has been paid back through Grambling’s general fund, the school wants to recover those funds…

Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson is said to be doing very well after he was hospitalized overnight following a busy weekend of events. A statement says Benson is expected to be back home tomorrow and in the office later this week.

The Pelicans host the Orlando Magic tonight. A win and New Orleans will move to 4-and-3 on the season.

Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Laura Edwards are in Puerto Rico meeting with government officials of the island country as they struggle to recover from Hurricane Maria. Puerto Rico plans to start a shelter-at-home program similiar to the one used by Louisiana following the August flood. Debris removal is another big problem in Puerto Rico.

I-10 East is now open after being closed since an overnight deadly crash involving four 18-wheelers between Grosse Tete and LA 415 in Iberville Parish. State Police Trooper Bryan Lee says one of the big rigs didn’t stop for upcoming traffic and smashed into three other 18 wheelers. He says the pile-up could have been avoided:

Two occupants in the first 18 wheeler died in the crash.

A state audit finds three former cashiers at Grambling improperly added nearly $165,000 dollars to the university accounts of 35 students, including the personal accounts of two of the former employees. GFlex accounts are given to students for discretionary spending money. Also detailed in the audit is over $12,000 in free meals provided to Grambling employees through a food service company.

The Louisiana Lottery says the Mega Millions game is changing so that jackpots will be bigger, but that means the ticket price is now $2. Spokeswoman Kimberly Chopin…:
