The senate approved a 23 month contract extension for the state’s Medicaid managed-care companies unanimously, but House members voted 18-to-6 against it, blocking the Governor’s efforts to help extend high-dollar contracts for five managed-care companies beyond January 2018.  House Appropriations Committee chairman Cameron Henry expects more meetings next month to find more savings in the proposed 15.4-billion-dollar deal.

As we’re turning our clocks back an hour on Sunday for Daylight Saving Time, State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says it’s a good time to check your smoke alarm’s batteries.  If you cannot afford an alarm the “Operation Save-A-Life” program will install a smoke detector in your home. He says it’s important to check to make sure your alarms are all working..:

A fire at LSU injures three electrical workers this morning.  The fire broke out around 930am at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center.  Two of the three were released from the hospital earlier this afternoon.  The building remained closed the rest of the day due to the loss of power there. Several nearby buildings, apartments and churches also lost power.

A man who is accused of participating in three armed robberies within an hour last month is in custody.  Baton Rouge Police say Junior Polanco was with two others who allegedly broke into the homes, robbing the residents at gunpoint.  Polanco admitted to police of being in a stolen vehicle used in the robberies, but denies taking part in the robberies themselves.

LSU is expected to lose the game against Alabama Saturday by a large margin.  Some fans though would like to see a nice effort by the Tigers, but believe this just isn’t the year…

Officers say a three-year-old toddler has died as the result of an alleged accidental shooting in St. Martin Parish.  Police have arrested the uncle 28-year-old Dracolby Numa Journet of Arnaudville.  He has been charged with Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Obstruction of Justice.  Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Major Ginny Higgins says cops responded to the call around 7pm Thursday…:

A Mandeville man has been arrested after allegedly blocking off the exit of a subdivision and holding two teens at gunpoint after they toilet papered his house. Police Chief Gerald Sticker says homeowner Craig Scott unjustifiably took matters into his own hands.

Scott faces charges of aggravated assault and obstruction of a roadway. Sticker says Scott told the teens they could not leave until they called their parents and during this time one called 911. He says rolling a house with toilet paper can be considered criminal mischief but often times homeowners do not press charges.

Police Chief Gerald Sticker says homeowner Craig Scott wasn’t wise to take matters into his own hands and he now faces charges of aggravated assault and obstruction of a roadway because he blocked the teens in the subdivision when armed with a semi-automatic pistol. Early voting begins today for the November 18 election which includes a state treasurer race, New Orleans mayoral contest and local propositions in 32 parishes. Turnout is expected to be dismal and some legislators are questioning the validity of holding so many elections. Secretary of State Tom Schedler completely agrees.

Early voting for the November 18 election is open starting today.  There is a state treasurer race, New Orleans mayoral contest and local propositions in 32 parishes to be decided.  Secretary of State Tom Schedler predicts a very low turnout for this election.  Only 13 percent turned out for the October 18 election and he’s predicting around 10 or 11 percent this time around.
