The Saints are the first team in the Super Bowl era to start the season 0-2 and then win 8 straight. New Orleans has a one-game lead over Carolina for first place in the NFC South. They are tied with Minnesota with the 2nd best record in the NFC.

LSU has moved up two spots in the AP poll to 19 and three spots to 18 in the coaches poll after its 30-10 win over Tennessee in Knoxville. The game was played in windy conditions and then a cold rain hit Neyland Stadium to begin the second half. But Tigers running back Derius Guice says that’s what football is about….

Guice rushed for 97 yards and a score. The Tigers finish the regular season this Saturday at home against Texas A-and-M.

Nicholls State is in the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2005. The Colonels will host South Dakota this Saturday at 3 PM. McNeese State did not get in, despite a 9-and-2 record. Northwestern State is now looking for a new head coach as Jay Thomas will not return for a sixth season.

Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Monty Sullivan says a new 500-dollar scholarship to attend one of their schools that’s available to F-F-A students is generating a lot of excitement…

Now that Republican John Schroder has been elected as Louisiana’s new State Treasurer, he says he wants to improve the way the state handles finances in a struggling economy. Schroder hopes to work with the state legislature and Governor Edwards to balance the budget and spend responsibly.

Schroder says government has become a burden and the state’s infrastructure has become unaffordable. He plans to stay a budget hawk, as he’s been since he was elected as a state representative 10 years ago.

Schroder also hopes to reform the process on how the state picks construction projects for funding and take the politics out of it. He also plans to educate the public on the state budget, so taxpayers know how their money is spent.

Because windy and rainy conditions, the Tigers had to rely on its ground game on Saturday night. Darrell Williams rushed for two touchdowns and Derius Guice had 97 yards and a score. The second half was played in a cold rain, but Guice says that’s what football is about…

The Saints needed a big game from the offense, because the defense had trouble stopping the Redskins. Washington QB Kirk Cousins threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns. But the Saints have rookie running back Alvin Kamara who had a touchdown catch and scored on a two-point conversion to the tie game at 31 with 1:05 left. Kamara had 117 total yards of offense. Brees on his star-studded backfield of Ingram and Kamara….

An officer involved shooting in West Monroe has left one dead. The incident happened at around 6 p.m. last night near Interstate 20 and Thomas Road. This makes the fourth fatal police shooting in Louisiana in a week. The names of the deceased and the officer have not yet been released.

A cold front crosses the Bayou State today causing a 20 degree drop in temperatures. C.S. Ross with the National Weather Service in Shreveport says Louisiana won’t see more than a tenth of an inch of rain. He says come Monday, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s across the state.

The Houma restaurant Boudreau and Thibodeau’s Cajun Cookin’, will be featured on tomorrow’s episode of “Food Paradise”, which airs on the Travel Channel. Owner Debra Blanchard says they’ve been in the business for nearly 20 years and it’s an honor to be chosen for the show. She says the combination of good food and fun is the secret to their longevity.

The Bureau of Labor and Statistics released new numbers and shows Louisiana’s October unemployment rate is at 4.8-percent, which is the lowest since June of 2008. Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director Ava Dejoie says four industry super sectors reached all time record highs in 2017.

This is the sixth consecutive month the rate has declined.

Governor John Bel Edwards announces a plan to upgrade internet speeds and connectivity to nearly 164-thousand kids in K-12 public schools. Education Policy Advisior for the Governor Donald Songy says currently, these students have a slow broadband connection.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is reminding Louisiana residents to get out and vote today. The polls are open until 8 p.m. tonight and anyone in line by 8 will still get the chance to cast their ballot. Schedler expects a low turnout for this election as there is only one statewide race on the ballot, which is state treasurer. A Houma restaurant will get national attention tomorrow on the show “Food Paradise” which airs on the Travel Channel. Boudreau and Thibodeau’s Cajun Cookin’ will be featured on one of the segments of the show. Owner Debra Blanchard says one producer has local ties to Houma and thought it would be a great addition.

One person is dead in West Monroe after an officer involved shooting last night at around six near I-20 and Thomas Road. Witnesses in the area report hearing about 20 gunshots and around 15 police officers at the scene. The name of the deceased and the officer have not yet been released. It is not believed the officer was injured.

A strong cold front crosses the state today, reminding us it’s winter time. C.S. Ross with the National Weather Service says temperatures will drop 20 degrees after the front passes.

Today is election day in Louisiana and voters can cast their ballot until 8 p.m. tonight. The only statewide election is the state treasurers race. There are several local elections like the New Orleans mayoral election and state representative in district 77.

U-S Senate Finance committee has approved tax reform bill that includes an amendment by Louisiana Senator Billy Cassidy that allows flood victims to make tax-free withdrawals from their retirement plans to recover and rebuild. And it also allows income tax deductions for personal casualty losses exceeding 500-dollars. The measure now heads to the Senate floor.

It’s a perfect night for high school football as the playoffs continue tonight. In Class Five-A, top seeded West Monroe is on the road as they’ll visit Dutchtown. Seventh-seeded Ruston hosts Hahnville, who features one of the best running backs in the state in Pooka Williams. Also, 15th seeded Ouachita Parish tries to upset second-seeded Covington, who is undefeated.

In four-A, third seeded Benton is home to Cecillia, sixth-seeded Leesville takes on Rayne and seventh-seeded Neville faces a talented McDonogh 35 squad from New Orleans.

This LSU Tigers arrived in Knoxville this afternoon where they’ll take on Tennessee tomorrow night. The Vols winless in the SEC and searching for a new head coach. Edge rusher Arden Key and inside linebacker Donnie Alexander are questionable, which means freshmen K’Lavon Chaisson and Tyler Taylor could start in their place. Kick-off is at 6 PM and it’s expected to rain during the game.

Louisiana Tech, ULM, and UL-Lafayette all need to win this Saturday to keep hope alive of a bowl bid. The Bulldogs and Cajuns have a good chance at winning. Tech is at winless UTEP, while the Cajuns host New Mexico State for homecoming. The Warhawks are at sixth ranked Auburn.

McNeese State needs to win tomorrow in order for a chance to receive an at-large berth into the FCS Playoffs. The 8-and-2 Cowboys are at Lamar, who have just two wins on the year. Last night, Southeastern beat Nicholls 21-17. That loss might have knocked the Colonels out of the playoffs.

On Sunday it’s the Saints versus the Redskins as New Orleans goes after its eighth straight win. Washington is 4-and-5 and a tough team to figure out. Two weeks ago, the Redskins went on the road and beat Seattle, but lost to Minnesota at home last week.

The Pelicans are at Denver tomorrow night. The Nuggets are 8-and-6 and the Pels are just 1-and-7 against teams that currently have a winning record. Tonight’s game is on ESPN at 9:30.
