For the first time in school history, Nicholls State will host an FCS playoff game at Guidry Stadium. The Colonels will take on South Dakota at 3 PM. Tonight at Tiger Stadium, it’s LSU versus Texas A-and-M. The Tigers have won six straight over the Aggies. Kick-off is at 6:30.

In Thibodaux, police have arrested a man who fatally shot a woman and then attempted to burn the victim’s body. Authorities took 41-year-old Kai Williams into custody without incident. Houma-today-dot-com identifies the victim as 75-year-old, Grace Owens, who is a neighbor. Williams has been charged with second-degree murder. A motive has not been determined. Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue says it’s an unfortunate tragedy.

The winner of today’s game advances to the SWAC Championship game.

It’s the regular season finale for the LSU Tigers as they host Texas A-and-M. Twenty seniors, including quarterback Danny Etling, will play their final game in Tiger Stadium. Etling is 15-and-6 as LSU’s starting quarterback.

ULM, UL-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech all have home football games today and Nicholls hosts its first ever FCS playoff game as they face South Dakota.

In the high school football playoffs last night….three number one seeds were beaten. In Division One, Catholic High had just 105 yards of offense but still beat top-seeded Evangel 14-6. The Bears blocked a punt for a touchdown and also had a pick-6. Catholic will play John Curtis in the Division One State title game. In Division Four, Lafayette Christian kicked a game winning field goal to beat top-seeded Vermilion Catholic 30-28. L-C-A will play Ascension Catholic in the Division 4 title game. And in Three-A, Richwood stunned top-seeded Sterlington 15-14. The eighth seeded Rams will visit 5th seeded Kaplan in the semifinals.

Tonight it’s the regular season LSU Tigers as they host Texas A-and-M. There are reports Aggies Head Coach Kevin Sumlin will get fired after this contest. Last year, LSU Derrius Guice rushed for a school-record 285 yards against A-and-M. Kick-off is at 6:30.

The Saints will not have their top two cornerbacks in Sunday’s game against the Rams. Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley will not play because of injuries. But Los Angeles will not have its leading receiver Robert Woods, who is out with a shoulder injury.

Several Louisiana football teams have to win today in order to extend their season. ULM hosts Arkansas State as the Warhawks must pull off the upset in order to be eligible for a bowl. Louisiana Tech is home to take UTSA and if the Bulldogs don’t win their season is over. Nicholls is facing South Dakota in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. South Dakota is averaging over 500 yards of offense. And in the Mercedes Benz Superdome, it’s the Bayou Classic as the winner between Southern and Grambling State advances to the SWAC Championship game.

In the NBA…the Pelicans started fast and easily defeated the Phoenix Suns 115 to 91. Anthony Davis had 23 points and DeMarcus Cousins had a double-double 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tonight the Pels are at Golden State.

An aide to Governor Edwards has resigned as a result of sexual harassment allegations. Johnny Anderson was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Programming and Planning.  He told the Advocate he’s innocent, but doesn’t want to be a distraction as he attempts to clear his name. Anderson was also accused of harassment in 2007 when he served as chair of the Southern Board of Supervisors. Political anyalist Bernie Pinsonat says having this happen to Anderson again is not a good look for Edwards…

Deputy Chief of Staff for Programming and Planning for the Governor, Johnny Anderson, resigned Wednesday after allegations of sexual harassment surfaced. Anderson says he stepped down as an effort to clear his name. He says he does not want to distract the governor and would rather answer questions about these accusations as a private citizen.
