The Saints return to the practice field today to get ready for Sunday’s playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have one of the top defenses in the NFL, allowing just 276 yards and 16 points a game. Quarterback Case Keenum has thrown 22 touchdown passes and only seven interceptions. Kick-off is at 3:40.

Still nothing official from LSU on the reported promotion of Steve Ensminger to offensive coordinator. Cornerback Donte Jackson has made it official. He will not return for his senior season. He’s one of the fastest players in college football.

Former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis has been named the new D-C at Arkansas. The 61-year-old Chavis has spent the last 23 seasons as an assistant in the Southeastern Conference.

On Monday, Adrian Burnette was fired as the head coach of the Bastrop Rams. On Tuesday, he was re-hired. He led Bastrop to a 5-and-5 record last season.

The bullet struck several of the Congressman’s internal organs. U-S Senator John Kennedy opposes a bipartisan bill designed to improve the national background check database. The legislation would penalize federal workers who fail to report relevant records to the database, and provide incentives to states that increase reporting levels. Kennedy says we don’t need legislation asking federal workers to do their job…

States and federal agencies are required to report background information on people that would make them ineligible to purchase a firearm. Kennedy says he supports a database of criminal offenses, but he opposes legislation that asks government workers to do their jobs…

The bill was proposed as a fix to the NICS database that in theory should prevent those with criminal backgrounds, certain mental illnesses, dishonorable discharges, and other restrictions from purchasing firearms. Kennedy says he would prefer legislation that would fire federal employees who fail to report the proper records into the Background Check system…

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Gene Reynolds says he and fellow Democrats came away frustrated after meeting with the GOP on how to prevent falling off a fiscal cliff when one-billion-dollars in revenue comes off the books June 30th.  Reynolds says the Republicans haven’t presented a plan to help balance next fiscal year’s budget…

Reynolds says Democrats have some solutions they are willing to share across the aisle that include taxing utilities to adjusting the states’ income tax brackets, but says there won’t be any negotiations until they know a solid GOP plan is in place…

Governor John Bel Edwards is saying he will present a budget no later than January 19th, whether or not the one-billion-dollar shortfall is accounted for.  Republican House Appropriations Chairman Cameron Henry says Democrats are going about this all wrong and is disappointed in the way Edwards and his party are discussing ways to tackle the budget…

State Police are warning motorists driving newer cars that their bright headlights, could increase the risk of accidents. Trooper Glen Younger says there’s one innovation in particular which is getting drivers into trouble.

Younger says the LED headlights are a particular problem, and emphasized the need to keep your distance while driving in bad weather with your brights on…

Many new cars come equipped with sensors that will automatically turn headlights on and off, but Younger says you still need to check your headlights when the weather clears up. He says sometimes motorists don’t realize that their brights are on, and that’s getting people tickets…

A Monroe Police officer who died while on duty early Sunday morning apparently shot himself before crashing The Monroe News Star says it’s unknown if 26-year-old Officer Chris Beaudion accidentally shot himself or committed suicide.  State Police are investigating the wreck off Winnsboro Road while the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of death.

The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index is at an all time high heading into 2018. Matt Doyle has more.

One teenager is dead and two adults are wounded after an apparent home invasion in Tallulah. 17-year-old Robert Taylor, was found deceased after Madison Parish deputies arrived on the scene Sunday night. 21-year-old Corey McGowan was injured and taken into custody last night. Sheriff’s investigator Brandon Wiltcher says the shootout began after Taylor and McGowan knocked at the homeowner’s door.

McGowan is facing several charges including attempted first degree murder.

After failing last year to raise Louisiana’s gas tax for road improvements, Baton Rouge Representative Steve Carter has a different idea this year by planning to file a constitutional amendment that would allow a region of the state to decide if they want a higher gas tax for their area. Carter says there’s not enough support for a statewide gas tax increase…

Officials say they will not press charges against a Vermilion Parish middle school teacher who was removed and then handcuffed after she spoke out during a school board meeting last night. English teacher Deyshia Hargrave opposed a pay raise for the superintendent. After asking several questions, Hargrave was led out by a marshal.

Multiple reports say Steve Ensminger will be named LSU’s new offensive coordinator. Ensminger served as an interim offensive coordinator eight games last season after the firing of Les Miles. He’s served as tight ends coach at LSU the last several years.

After beating the Pistons 112 to 109 last night, New Orleans heads to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies tomorrow night. Anthony Davis had 30 points in last night’s win over Detroit, but left in the second half with an ankle injury. Coach Alvin Gentry said today it’s doubhtful A-D will play tomorrow night.

In college hoops last night, Jackson State went to Baton Rouge and edged Southern 65-61 despite 22 points from Jared Sam, while Grambling beat Alcorn State 72-61. Southern and Grambling are 1-3 in league play.

Tonight, Tulane takes on Memphis at 6 PM. The Green Wave have won four of their last five.

In college baseball…Perfect Game announced it’s preseason All-American team today and Southeastern Louisiana third baseman Taylor Schwaner and LSU center fielder Zach Watson landed on the third-team.

Tiger Rag Magazine reports catcher Mason Doolittle has left the LSU baseball program. He was expected to compete for a starting role, but Coach Paul Mainieri says Hunter Feduccia has won that job.

Carter says worsening road congestion is not only is a problem for drivers, but can hurt Louisiana’s economy.  He cites the heavy traffic in his Baton Rouge area district as a key issue that needs to be solved in the state…

The rule would have required businesses to pay time and a half on overtime hours to roughly 4.6 million workers earning under $47,476 a year, who work more than forty hours a week. She says that was a boon for small businesses…

While optimism is high, Starns says businesses face one potential roadblock: finding qualified workers. She says it could hold back the Louisiana economy…
