A Louisiana State Penitentiary inmate serving a life sentence for second degree murder, died three days after being involved in a fight with his cell mate.  36-year-old Gamarus Everett was found unresponsive after the fight with 41-year-old Jessie Grace.  Everett was revived and taken to a Baton Rouge hospital where he died last night.  Officials say Grace may be charged following an investigation.

The Baldwin Police Department was heavily damaged and a prisoner was injured after a fire yesterday afternoon.  State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says it will be a while before normal operations can resume as the police department sustained quite a bit of damage…

Browning says they continue to conduct interviews and will talk with the jailed man when he has sufficiently recovered.

Global sports entertainment leader Topgolf has broken ground in Baton Rouge, slated to open in late 2018. With 41 venues around the world, the company is looking to bring their entertainment complexes to other areas.  Spokesperson Caroline Jerome says they can’t reveal any information now, but when asked about other Louisiana locations, she said…

The Pelicans made 14 three-pointers in their 118 to 103 win over Detroit last night. New Orleans hosts the Lakers tomorrow night.

A CBS Sports report found that college football saw its largest per-game attendance drop in 34 years during the 2017 as attendance was down 14-hundred people per game, which is a three-percent delcine from 2016. According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, LSU’s season tickets sales have dropped from 74-thousand in 2015, to just under 72-thousand. The average attendance in Tiger Stadium in 2017 was 98-thousand, down from 101-thousand in 2016.

Tulane released its football schedule for 2018. The Green Wave open the season by hosting Wake Forest and Nicholls and they’ll visit Ohio State on September 22nd.

Former Louisiana Tech player and now LSU assistant Mickie DeMoss found last night she’ll be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this summer. The Tallulah native was the first ever point guard for the Lady Techsters. She went on serve as an associate head coach under the legendary Pat Summit and is now assistant coach for the Lady Tigers.

In New Roads, nine people went to the hospital after a float in a parade crashed into a telephone pole. Officials say the pole crashed down on the roof of the float, causing it to collapse. Some of the riders were thrown off. One report says a person suffered a head injury, while another injured a leg.

The investigation continues into a fire that destroyed much of the Baldwin Police Department in St. Mary Parish. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says his deputies are still trying to determine how the blaze started….

Browning says a prisoner in a holding cell suffered severe injuries from burns. There have been reports an inmate set himself on fire, but Browning can’t confirm that.

A deer buck that died from Chronic Wasting Disease in Mississippi has Louisiana wildlife officials concerned. State Wildlife Veterinarian, Doctor Jim LaCour says C-W-D is similar to mad cow disease and although there’s no evidence it affects humans, there are concerns about eating deer meat with the disease.

LaCour says a case of C-W-D has never been documented in Louisiana… but cautions that landowners in East Carroll, Madison and Tensas parish should curtail supplemental feeding of deer.

A survey by offers-dot-com finds the average consumer will spend 55-dollars on Valentine’s Day this year. Spokesperson Sarah Hollenbeck says 27-percent of Louisiana shoppers admitted they wait until the week of Valentine’s Day to buy their gifts. She says many will get their sweetheart something for their sweet tooth…

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s department is trying to find the owner of what appears to be a very friendly goat.  Authorities picked up “Rowdy” after he was found wandering on Dianne Street in Shreveport.  Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says it appears to be someone’s pet. If the owner doesn’t claim “Rowdy”, Chadwick says he may get a new start somewhere else…

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is in Washington D-C to promote the state’s tourism slogan, Feed Your Soul.” Nungesser is handing out king cake and there’s also Louisiana-wrapped food trucks doing the same in Houston. Dallas and Atlanta. Those are three cities Louisiana gets many of its visitors.

Louisiana-wrapped food trucks will also serve Mardi Gras king cakes in Houston, Dallas and Atlanta.

An invasive species of snail is posing a threat to crawfish harvests. The apple snail is indigenous to South America, and can devour vegetation crucial to the development of Louisiana crawfish. An abundance of apple snail shut down a 220 acre farm in Acadia Parish. LSU Ag Center Agent Mark Shirley says so far, there is no solution to the problem.
