The Saints are reportedly bringing back wide receiver Brandon Coleman for another season. Coleman saw a lot of playing time last season and caught 23 passes for 364 yards.

The Buccaneers have announced former LSU Tiger Kendell Beckweith suffered an ankle fracture in a single-vehicle car wreck last week and needed surgery to repair the injury. General Manager Jason Licht says the injury occurred in Louisiana and Beckwith was a passenger. No timetable on when he’ll return. The linebacker had a solid rookie campaign as he had 73 tackles and seven tackles for a loss last season.

Former UL-Lafayette and LSU football player Jeryl Brazil is facing a charge of third-degree rape. A police report says Brazil allegedly forced himself on a girl at a residence after night out with friends and roomates. Brazil who also rank track at UL Lafayette was considered a draft prospect after posting a 40-time of 4.35.

The full House has approved a budget for next fiscal year that would fund TOPS at 80-percent. State colleges would receive the same amount of dollars as they do this fiscal year. But the Edwards administration says the funding for th estate’s partner hospitals is woefully inadequate. The measure still needs Senate approval.

He says his organization is pushing to increase penalties for drivers who use their phone while driving, but laws alone won’t save lives.

Distracted driving was responsible for over 700 Louisiana deaths in 2016.

 

And it sounds like an outrageous scene from a movie comedy but a woman in Monroe was not laughing when she came home to find a naked stranger bathing in her tub while eating food including some Cheerios cereal from the home’s kitchen. Twenty-nine year old Evelyn Washington faces property damage and burglary charges. Police say the arrested woman claims that an unknown man told her to break into the home.

The full House will consider a budget today that funds TOPS, but includes deep cuts in healthcare and higher education. The budget has come under fire from leading Democrats, including Governor John Bel Edwards who says the cuts are a massive blow to crucial state services.

The Democratic Caucus is calling on its members to vote against the budget. They say it unfairly targets Democratic constituencies, while funding institutions in GOP districts.

But GOP House Delegation Chairman Lance Harris says the budget has one success, and that’s fully funding TOPS. Harris says the budget being discussed is not final, and a great tool for identifying where to start in a future special session.
