A Shreveport woman has sustained life threatening injuries after authorities discover she hadn’t left her couch in months. Matt Doyle has the story.

Get ready for a scorcher. Temps are expected to sit in the mid-90s to low triple digits across the state through Tuesday as a high pressure system blows away any semblance of cloud cover. Governor John Bel Edwards has responded with a letter of his own after Attorney General Jeff Landry criticized the governor for allegedly refusing to go through with executions in the state. Edwards responded by saying that executions are not being carried out, because the only drugs that the legislature has authorized for lethal injection haven’t been accessible since 2010.

The six-month-old baby that police say was kidnapped from a trailer park in Natchitoches and then found in a burning barn will be buried today in Winnfield. Levi Cole Ellerbe died on Wednesday and an excact cause of death is unknown. Authorities are looking for two men who knocked on the door of the child’s home and sprayed his mom with mace.

A 66-year-old Caddo Parish man is under arrest after authorities discovered his wife on the couch, unresponsive, severely malnourished, and suffering from crippling injuries sustained from allegedly not moving in months. Sheriff’s Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says when Johnny Essary let deputies into the house, they were shocked.

It’s the first time in two years that the L-D-H has ordered the closure of a restaurant because of repeated health violations.

St. John the Baptist Parish Judge Jeff Perilloux has entered a not guilty plea to three felony counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and a misdemeanor sexual battery count. Prosecutors allege Perilloux inappropriately touched two girls last year. Perilloux has maintained his innocence.

A 66-year-old Shreveport man is under arrest after authorities arrived at his house and discovered his wife on the couch, unresponsive, severely malnourished, and suffering from crippling injuries sustained from allegedly not moving from the couch in months. Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says when Johnny Essary let first responders into the house, they were shocked.

Authorities arrived after a relative of 68-year-old Alice Essary called for a wellness check. Chadwick says Mr. Essary had been feeding and watching his wife on the couch for the duration, and never informed anyone else of his wife’s condition.

Mr. Essary was charged with Cruelty to a Persons with Infirmities after deputies determined that it was a case of severe neglect. Chadwick says he should have alerted authorities.

Chadwick says if you or anyone you know noticed someone, particularly someone elderly, has dropped out of social life, report it to police.

Sessions accused the Edwards Administration of refusing to communicate with the AG’s office about potential solutions to the execution backlog. Edwards says his office hasn’t received any communications from the AG’s office in over a year.

Landry made his views known on the death penalty last night on twitter, saying “This is simple: I support the death penalty – by lethal injection, gas, hanging, and firing squad. Does the Governor?” Edwards had some comments on yesterday’s twitter blast.

The Louisiana Department of Corrections launched an investigation and shakedown following the deaths of two offenders on Wednesday night at Louisiana State Penitentiary, believed to be linked to drug use.  Following the discovery of the men, prison staff conducted a search finding contraband such as synthetic marijuana, amphetamines, a cell phone, and a small pocket knife.  The investigation is ongoing.

North Louisiana Congressman Ralph Abraham has been named to the conference committee that will try to resolve differences in the Senate and House’s Farm Bill. The Farm Bill sets agriculture policy for the next five years, and also houses the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.  Abraham says he’ll be pushing the conference committee, made up of select House Representatives and Senators, to adopt a program he’s pushing that would facilitate educational and vocational training for SNAP beneficiaries.

Louisiana’s Republican Congressional Delegation is lashing out against US Senate Democrats who blocked a House resolution from Congressman Clay Higgins that endorses the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, or ICE. Higgins says the movement to abolish ICE endangers national security and threatens ICE agents.

Friday is the deadline for Louisiana homeowners who had flood damage in 2016 to fill out a survey to participate in the Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program. The governor’s Communications Director Shauna Sanford says 52,500 homeowners have completed the survey that can result in federal assistance for home repairs…

North Louisiana Congressman Ralph Abraham has been named to the conference committee that will try to resolve differences in the Senate and House’s Farm Bill. The Farm Bill sets agriculture policy for the next five years, and also sets the regulations for SNAP. Abraham says he’s looking for big changes to the food stamp program.

It was hot today and it will be even warmer tomorrow. National Weather Service Meteorologist Mario Valverde in Shreveport says being too active in this kind of heat could lead to some serious health issues.
