The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state hit an employment record for the month of June. L-W-C Secretary Ava Dejoie says the state added nearly 37-thousand jobs from June 2017 to bring the total number of jobs to 2,036,316…

The last three major candidates for the Secretary of State’s special election in November have qualified to run for the positioned vacated by Tom Schedler after sexual harassment allegations led to his resignation. Representatives Rick Edmonds, Julie Stokes, and a man that, before this afternoon, said he wasn’t running, interim Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin are now in the special election race.  The office became available after former Secretary of State Tom Schedler resigned in the wake of sexual harassment and stalking allegations involving his former secretary. The high profile resignation lead to calls for an overhaul of state sexual harassment policies. Stokes says if elected, she won’t let that kind of behavior happen on her watch.

While primarily considered an elections office, the Secretary of State’s office is responsible for helping new businesses get their paperwork to get started. Edmonds says if elected, he’d work with the department to do more to facilitate business growth in the state.

A cadet with LDWF has died at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge, a day after being rushed to the facility.  LDWF spokesperson Adam Einck says 38-year-old Immanuel Washington of Youngsville collapsed following a 2.5 mile run as part of physical training.  Washington, who is a former Youngsville police officer, had been training to be an LDWF enforcement officer for a little less than a month.

Washington leaves behind a wife and two small children.

The Advocate reports former Saints offensive tackle Zach Strief has been offered the job as radio play-by-play man for the Black and Gold. Strief has little broadcasting experience, but is interested in the job. Streif says he’s been calling games on his own and he graduated from Northwestern University with a communications degree.

The coaches in the Sun Belt Conference have picked ULM to finish second in the West Division and the Ragin Cajuns fourth. Arkansas State is the favorite to win the West, while Appalachian State is the pick to win the east.

The 67-year-old is a deputy secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, he’s now waiting for Senate confirmation to be an assistant secretary overseeing the Economic Development Administration.

Governor John Bel Edwards and Attorney General Jeff Landry’s feud over the death penalty continues as the governor fired off his own letter after Landry wrote a letter to Edwards accusing the governor of being an obstacle in carrying out executions of death row inmates. Edwards says the A-G is deliberately misrepresenting the facts…

Caddo Parish authorities say they have charged a 66-year-old man with cruelty to the infirm after he failed to seek medical help for his wife after several months. Sheriff’s office spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says Johnny Essary did not move his wife from the couch and she became unresponsive, severely malnourished and had life-threatening wounds…

Chadwick says a detective at the scene said it’s the worst case of neglect he’s ever seen.

For the first time in two years, the Louisiana Health Department has ordered the closure of a restaurant after inspectors allegedly found flies, insects, rodents and other live animals at the establishment. Regional medical director. Doctor Martha Whyte says critical violations were found at the Dupont Fish Market in Shreveport…
